I have had this camera for about three years. Its great. I love all the features and how small it is. I do wish I had an all black one though. Mine has the battery grip which is usefull for auto rewind and portrait gripping. I also have the 1.4 fast SMC M. Wish I had the SMC-A though.
I love that it has split focus plate, DoF preview. Make sure you get good pictures for any item you are bidding. I agree with the other reviewers.
Beware cosmetic damage to the Pentax MX as it's body plates (top and bottom) are much thinner and more prone to denting than my Nikon FM2's. I purchased 2 Pentax MX cameras over Ebay and both were damaged and had to be returned as the seller neglected to mention major details like dents an a non-functinal light meter. Purchase your MX frm a reputable dealer or someone who actually knows about cameras. Don't waste your time trying to buy one of these cameras from a neophyte.
I like this model because it is the most compact SLR on the market. Smaller than anything else out there. It is also lighter than the $500-700 Nikon FM2/t titanium. It is a fully manual camera so YOU do all the thinking here, not the camera. Great for learning photography and great resale value should you decide it's not your cup of tea.
Hanvg used , exclusively, Pentax cameras over the past 25 years. I wanted to get my daughter a "real" camera for her birthday. I wanted something I was familiar with and completely manual in operation. She loves it and I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The price was right and it arrived in mint condition. I have purchased many photographic items on e-bay and am always looking for more.
