Apple iPod Fourth Gen. (20 GB, M9282LL/A) MP3 Player

I jumped on the bandwagon and bought this and have since often wondered if some of the others might have been a better buy. Yes, there are more accessories for this one, it has a cool look when it is new, the click wheel is cool, and more people are familiar with it. However, it has its drawbacks.
The iTunes interface isn't very flexible for personal preferences. My files previously were stored in folders by genre, then sub-folders by artist, etc. I could then play all music of an artist, genre, etc, and shuffle the songs within those choices. The only way you can shuffle with iPod is shuffle all the songs on the iPod. You may get some 80s heavy metal song, then follow that with some bubble-gum pop song you still aren't sure why you ever saved. The only way to change this is by going through a very tedious task of creating playlists.
One other big problem is that the iPod is very prone to scratches. The screen scratched the first day when I put it in the inside pocket in my jacket, which has a soft liner and shouldn't scratch anything. The chrome back is also cool looking, but also very prone to scratches.
I would also like to see them add some equalizer type functionality to the iPod for listening preferences.
The thing plays music just fine and hasn't had a functional problem yet, but I would suggest considering other options before purchasing this item.

It works well. Has lots of memory. Though it is a bit heavy. Not something you would wear on your arm to run with.

A bit out of date in terms of features and functionality but an all around excellent unit. The click wheel actually works better than it does on the newer models.

Considering the lower prices these go for, it's really tough to complain.

This iPod works perfectly. Its condition is perfect, as if I'd bought it from the Apple Store.

To be more product-specific, I can recommend the 4th Gen iPod over the newer models because the screen is dot matrix, which allows you to see it in direct sunlight, unlike newer iPods with a digital display that needs to be lit and in shade to see. When I owned a 5th Gen iPod, I rarely used the video and picture features as I own a laptop anyway.

I cannot recommend purchasing from Hays Consulting more. The company's owner personally signed my product receipt, which just shows me that if I did have a problem with the product, they'd be there to solve it, just as they advertise. I love being able to store so many songs in it... I have the cable that allows it to play in my pioneer car stereo, which works perfectly... That is really the main reason why I got the Ipod in the first place, because if I just needed an mp3 player, then I'd use my smartphone..

I buy a lot of iPods, and have a great deal of experience dealing with them. I'll tell you the pros and cons of the 4th Gen iPod Photo.

Pros:
High quality sound
Excellent resale value even if fully or partially non functional
Backlit full color screen clear and easy to read
Has shuffle feature to let you listen to your collection in random order
A few fun mini games to kill time, don't expect much though
Attractive looking with nice smooth design
Can display album artwork
Easy to navigate menus with innovative click wheel, just rub your finger over dial to scroll
A LOT of memory, about 5000 songs worth (and countless pictures)
Can watch picture slideshow while listening to music
Pictures can be organized in folders for easy location of pictures

Cons:
Thick compared newer models
Heats up unlike newer models (guess this is pro if you always have cold hands?)
Battery life lasts several hours, but not as long as newer iPods
Can't add new games or videos
Can't support the Apple Radio Remote's (sold separately) radio function, so no FM tuner
Screen is pretty small for photo viewing, especially since you can't zoom in on stored pictures

Conclusion:
If you want a great, reliable, iconic product that can hold lots of music, but you don't need or think you'll ever use the minor new features that have been added to newer models, this is the perfect iPod for you.

i bid on it because the said it was 4th gen...but it doesnt play videos, so make sure any ipod you are looking for says whether or not it plays video, don't just go by what generation they claim it is.

The Ipod was in great shape and it had lots of fabulous music on it.
It arrived quickly and I have been using it since I got it.

I was looking for a cheap iPod for a car kit. I came across this 4th gen iPod. Seller said it had surface scratches but worked perfectly normal. When I got it, the face was pretty scratched but very shallow surface scratches. That didn't bother me at all though, since the iPod does work like any other new iPod. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

This was my first experience with a portable MP3 player. I bought it because I acquired a vehicle with an MP3 input, and it seemed like an easy way to take my music on the road. This Ipod is relatively compact, stores a lot of tunes, sounds very good through the car audio system, and works reliably. On the negative side, the ear pods do not seem to stay in both my ears, and the sound is only so-so. I also find the interface a bit confusing and non intuitive to use. Maybe I'm too old (60). My teenage son can work it in his sleep.

it was perfect for my nephew, not all the bells and whistles of the larger gig ipods. this is perfect for new users of the ipod.

The newer smaller ipods are great for adult, but as far as smaller children learning to read and recognize their music, the older ipod with larger wheels make an excellent tool for learning.

I decided to bid on the item because it was so cheap and Ipods are hard to find for under 100 dollars. It is an excellent condition! I was able to pull it out of the box and plug it in and it was ready to go.
