iRiver H10 (20 GB) MP3 Player

I bought this mp3 player looking for an easier to use alternative to the iPod line-up. I did some research into various mp3 players of differing shapes, sizes, styles and capacities. This mp3 player seemed to have the best number of features and most balanced combination of functions.

Once I started to use my iRiver H10 I immediately noticed great sound quality that matched or exceeded the quality of the Creative Labs line of mp3 players (known for sound quality). I began to mess with the interface and became quickly accustomed to its ease of use and functionality. The screen quality was very nice and the controls were smooth, as well as very nice button placement.

The iRiver H10 has all of the features I was looking for in an mp3 player, including some I wasnt looking for. Some of the significant features are a quick playlist function, allowing to make a playlist in little time. The player also has several play modes (shuffle, repeat(playlist), repeat1(song), regular). The player has the ability to view pictures on its color screen and can also display text files. It plays all new audio file format and can be updated to play future formats as well. Something I wasnt expecting was that the iRiver H10 can double as a sort of portable 20GB hard drive. Files can be placed directly onto the devices memory without some sort of conversion. The H10 also features a microphone and can record/play music directly onto itself. A radio tuner is also included on the H10, and recordings from the radio can be made directly onto the device. With so many features, the battery life is exceptional at over 16 hours (I tested mine and it ran for almost 18 hours before completely losing charge).

The only downside to the iRver H10 is that its not exactly the smallest mp3 player on the market. However, it IS comparable in size to other mp3 players with 20GB of memory and as many features. The only mp3 player with equal size and feature amount is the new iPod, which is significantly more expensive and the sound quality does not compare to the H10.

Overall, the iRiver H10 is an excellent mp3 player and fully exceeded all of my expectations. If your looking for an alternative to the expensive and difficult to operate iPods, I strongly recommend this mp3 device.

I've already got 2 Ipod Touch 8gb from Trainn (the enterprise behind this) last year and I'm getting another one. I won't lie here, I need you to get it, but please read. Used iRiver H10. Was in good shape, Worked well,once I figured out how.
Seller was very helpful here. There was no instruction manual.
Had to replace the battery shortly, That was a pain.
However, Overall I am pleased with the purchase good piece of equipment.

Like - 20GB capacity; radio; playback features; picture player
Dislikes - battery capacity sucks; have to use WMP10 instead of Windows Explorer. It causes problems if you use Explorer to add/delete files; viewer only shows tiny images, no way to increase resolution.

recommend a base price of $125 only.

I like everything about the 20GB H10 except no removable battery like the 5 & 6 GB H10 versions. This unit is highy modifiable with Rockbox & other software programs. Another + is you don't need software or a media player to transfer songs. How much more can you ask for? iRiver should have stuck with the H10 & kept improving & updating it's interface.If iRiver would have offered it with a removable battery it would be the perfect mp3 player.

I have purchased a total of seven H10 20GB MP3 players for family members. I have found the H10 to be very user friendly. I love the size and variety of colors. I also like that it's compatible with most media players. The iriver is a solid product with lots of features (FM Tuner, Browser). The only issue that I have encountered with the device is that it sometimes freezes and you have to reset the unit. Overall the iriver is a very good product at a reasonable price.

Learning curve, lots of fun to play with. I liked it so well I bought another one on Ebay. It uploads all your My Music files at one time or you can do them one album at a time.

I had a 1gig that I loved, great sound, love the recorder function. I have a 5.5 gig on the way but already have received a 20... I decided I needed more room for my music and also some pictures! I love the syncing, very easy to use, simple controls. The sliding control to go between menu items is sometimes a little spastic but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I love having all the space and not feeling like I'm going to run out, least not any time soon! It's a little heavier than some mp3 players but it does have a 20 gig hd on it!! It's a nice size and a male friend of mine said he liked it because it wasn't TOO heavy but yet felt substantial! He is trying to get me into podcasts, which I have as of yet to learn about. There's extremely little to getting this up and running. Get your media player organized and set up your syncing for auto or manual and sit back! Love IRiver!

This MP3 player is really great, and we are glad to have it. I bought it for my husband and he absolutely loves it! We did not expect it to be of this great quality when we bought it, but we were amazed at all the extra features, and for a very reasonable price too! I would have paid more if I knew what good shape it was going to be in, and the quality of it and all. I would definately reccomend this product to ANYONE interesting in having an MP3 player. And also, the fact that it's NOT an ipod is great, b/c we had an ipod, and um... Itunes messes up your computer... That is all I have to say.

I purchased the iRiver H10 for my gadget-loving son for Christmas and after messing with the firmware a bit he believes it to be the most awesome invention ever. 20 gigs is plenty of storage for all of his music, photos and YouTube videos plus it works with our Rhapsody account. As a definite bonus, because of his alteration to the firmware, he has been able to download fun games and even full length movies converted from our dvds. All in all, pretty incredible little device. The only drawback we have encountered is that it is not a tiny little electronic device - the 20gig hard drive definitely has some heft to it but with its capabilities that seems a small price to pay.

works good, east to use with mp3 file system. stores pics, records voice, mine needs a battery though.but i use it for my shop so it is usually plugged in.

I do not have the budget for the ipod, but I figure the job of a mp3 player is to provide music for my pleasure. The iRiver delivers. Easy to operate and sounds good, this player is a great substitute to the popular ipod. I love it's ability to store playlists and play back your favorites. Easy to load, no extra steps to rebuild library like the Samsung players. I have used almost every mp3 player there is and this is one of the good ones. Highly recommended. In fact, I bought one for my 62-year-old mother. Now she is jamming too.

I love my iriver because no one else around me have one like it unlike the ipods are EVERYWHERE! I like the iriver because it can hold a lot of songs and has great quality unlike the Ipods seem to have. We decided to buy this because I am on the road all the time and I love listening to music to get to the places that I am heading to. I had an Iriver before this one and I had it for three years before it died on me. I recommend buying iriver over the ipods. I have had great feelings about this iriver.

I bought one of these last spring from Staples for $118. I loaded it up with songs only to discover the freezing that several other reviewers mentioned. I packed it up and planned on returning it. But, after a quick online search I found iriver's site and firmware update. I'm a computer moron and was able to quickly and painlessly update the firmware. If you haven't updated the firmware, do it! The freezing is gone and the player runs great. This thing is amazing! It is my jukebox at home, in the car, and at work. It blows away both my older ipod and sansa. It is a little chunky, but the metal body feels good and tough enough to take daily use and transport. The eq is very cool and makes getting the right sound easy. I have about 2500 songs and about a hundred pics and still have about 8 gigs to go. I love this player.

Great product. Easy to use. Great sound. Works with Windows Vista. Doesn't need special software, works like an extra external hard drive to save music or pictures or files.

Well here we go another I Pod wanna be ,first lets clarify a few things
1: Its got a ton of features some that I first ruled out but then found quite handy ie:the voice recorder.
2:A tad hefty but for those of us who have not become trendy or flashy you would want something to remind you that it is in a pocket or shirt.
3:Ok I am old school frugal to some learned to others some features I just dont want or need viewing by album art wont find it on the I River H10( why are you going to sit there and mentally know who sang what on what album??).
Album art gone (yes its cute and funky but it kills your battery!!! not on the Iriver thank fully.

Oh let me say one thing I pod addicts your battery sucks!!! I have a used I River (not new) and I clocked it at just over 16hours continuous use my good friend has a 4 gen Ipod his conked out at 10hrs with a full charge, why do you say is this important (are you crazy!!!)

Now you ask what else well all those I phone hip and handy accessories out the window ( not so fast ) there are a few and Ebay has them cases(need it , screen protector(want it),car charger ( not necessary).Ok so now you ask am I crazy why give up all the good, massive parts and add on's, ability to customize why??????? Why cause on Cnet.com it has an awsome rating smooth style simple interface and out of the box ease (the thumb slide is weird ) plus a copious amount of eq options that will make your head spin,also you can play music in any combo or fashion Artist name, Album ,Playlist quick list( a feature thats so cool) alright quick list the ability to customize a list in a second or two on the fly the best of your best on one single list.
Wet your appetite? wait theres more an alarm (yes there are those of us who need one handy) more ways to play music (yes more) did I forget the ability of the radio and recording from it ( Bmore Club here I come ) or any line in function????Also line out functions radio ect.....All this for a lot lees than the I Pod now I know I know whats wrong ok here it is
1: Its windows based not Mac
2:It operates with Media player only (pro and con)
3: The charger and the sync cable are on the same dongle
4:Not as many trendy accessories
With that said I have done well what I got was what you read a simple (understatement) mp3 player with a whole lot of kick for a lot less than Ipod,it does the job and then some and then a little more I am thrilled at the lil terror it holds all my music currently well over 5k( I will never listen to that ) it records an plays radio ( excelent for the job) it holds pdf and can be used as mass storage device.The pic function I can pass on but it may appeal to you. Well ther you have it for me its great more than I expected .

I´ve been using another MP3 player but this iRiver is easy to operate and to access all the menus. The iRiver functions area amazing, text, voice, image and music, ahh and the radio simple woooowwwwww!!!!!

I like the extra features, radio, voice recorder that aren't available on the more popular mp3 players. It also have a great option for its equalizer.
Sometimes I have duplicate songs because it's not so easy to delete a song from the player. I don't like this.
I bought it because it was affordable and fill the need. The size of the hard drive definitely a big plus!

These players are great and work fine with few problems. They have a minor problem of freezing up occasionally for no reason. A common problem with all players having a hard drive. They are easily fixed by resetting the player. The 5 & 6gb H10 players are equally easy to use.

I like the color screen, which make's it easy to see in the dark. I have no compliant's about my iRiver H10. It is easy to down load all my faviort song's onto it.Unlike the iPOD you don't need a program to convert your MP3 and MWA files to its liking. Another thing I like about my iRiver H10 is the sound on it is clean and it has a equelizer I can set to my likeing or choose a automantic setting for what ever kind of music there is. The dealivery of my product was fast, three day's and it showed up at my door unharmed. I decided to by my iRiver H10 because my D.J. friend has the same one which he bought off of e-bay too, and he say's( it is one of the best investment's he has ever made). If asked I would recomend the iRiver H10 because I have neverheardany complaint's from all the other people I know who have one. I have head a lot of complaint's about iPOD's from there owner's.

Bottom-line: wholeheartedly recommended.

Caveats: I only use this device for my music ... no photos, no FM, no text or audio recording. That being said, I'm very well satisfied with what my $150 bought me.

Gotchas: okay, there *are* a few relatively minor things, but I stress the "minor" aspect --
* the device needs to be "reset" periodically (i.e., push a sharpened-pencil tip into the little hole on the top), but doing so takes just a moment and I've never experienced a loss of any kind;
* I like to play my music on "shuffle-repeat", and everytime I start a session, it always begins with the same piece ... it's fairly random after that, but the starting point is *always* the alphabetically-first piece in my library. I can deal with that, it's just a little annoying;
* there's no way to delete stuff on the device itself, you have to go through the PC interface; more on that below;
* I'm pretty sure that playlists don't use soft-links (UNIX-ism), but rather make entire copies of tracks; this can be tremendously space-wasteful, be warned.

This last bit is not fully researched, but ... the documentation claims that you need Windows Media Player in order to sync stuff onto the device; I know for a fact that plain-ole "copy/paste" works, but I haven't tried, e.g., creating my own playlists that way. I have, though, removed tracks this way, treating the device just like a USB storage disk; experiment with this a bit before deciding to ditch WMP, 'cause I *have* seen a few weird things, like entire albums showing on the disk but not in the library-directory (I just deleted the entire disk-folder and recopied *the whole folder*, including the cover art files and "desktop.ini" file), and what appeared to be duplicate track/file entries on the disk but not in the library. Repeat -- play with this before you decide to trust it.

Again: I don't utilize everything this device is capable of, but for what I *do* use it for, it's just peachy.
