After getting an email from a high school friend about something important Irene travelled back to her hometown only to find that the friend had died of an apparent suicide. Not believing that ruling by the police for one moment Irene takes it upon herself to investigate. Luke, the owner of the small hotel Irene is staying at believes he needs to rescue Irene from herself before she gets into a situation she cannot escape from. The fact that irene's parents were murdered long ago but the local police ruled their murders a homicide-suicide brought on by irene's father is only one reason Irene cannot accept any statement from the police. Considering that most of the townsfolk have been bought by the people Irene suspects have committed the murders it makes the investigation that much more difficult.
