Witty, entertaining, laugh-out-loud view of America, its' founding fathers and the flaws inherit in the system. A wacky crash course of history. Perhaps if history was taught like this our school years may have been more productive.
To watch his show and read his book he truely question everybody and everything. Washington should beware of the Americans public, they are not stuipid. Great book at a great price.
I bought this for my husband and he loves it!! He wasn't able to put it down. It is very witty and pretends to be an actual history textbook. Quite entertaining for anybody that has an open mind and enjoys The Daily Show's sense of humor.
The book is formatted as a textbook that would have been received in your history classroom and is chock full of amazing facts mixed with humor and satire.
oh my gosh... i think possibly the funniest book i've ever read. you probably have to like jon stewart and have a sense of humor (and some knowledge) about politics, but beyond that, it's great for everyone. i highly recommend it!!!
I bought the book America by Jon Stewart of the daily show. The book is very funny and entertaining I use it as a coffee table conversation starter. The book was in excellent condition when it arrived at my mailbox.
Like the 'text book' pun layout and irrerverant humour throughout! Full of delicious nugets of historical irony. If it weren't for the occasional risque laugh I'd recommend it to the local school board. Wink ;-)
With the incisive political commentary of "The Daily Show," this book examines America's birth as a nation and her current functioning as a democratic hegemon. "America" is formatted like a social studies textbook and is reminiscent of "School House Rock" only with a more cynical and irreverent tone. The content ranges from vaguely sarcastic to blatantly inappropriate, the humor fluctuating from intellectual to crude, but it will keep you smiling throughout. As you travel from America's hand in establishing democracy (America invented not only democracy but freedom, justice, and time-sharing), to the early years of our democracy, including the basis of policy in administrations such as Millard Fillmore's (Magical talking cats!), to the current state of our executive, legislative and judicial brancbes, asking what's under a Supreme Court justice's robe (Genitalia!), to finally taking a look at what the furture of democracy holds (Robots!), you will enjoy this satirical romp and maybe learn a thing or two. Maybe.
By far the funniest book I have read in a long time. Filled with infinately many puns and cheap shots at our government, this book is truly a must read.
