Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe will forever be one of my all-time favourites.

The well-drawn characters become people who you deeply wish you could invite into your home to become friends with, and discover more about their lives!

Treat yourself to a most delightful read (you'll want to read this exceptional book over and over again) ... and then cook up a storm with the tasty recipes that are at the end of the book!

Oh, to have a talent such as Fannie Flagg's ...

Fannie ... you make the world a better place!

Idgy is a fun tomboyish character that you will learn to love immediately. Her friend Ruth is just as lovable but opposite in personality. Ruth is dainty and feminine.

The book explores more of the characters personalities and history than the movie (which i also love) does. I learned alot about the south in the early part of the centry. The general attitude toward blacks and the poverty they lived in.

Idgy is loveable for many reasons, but her devotion towards her 'colored' friends whome she treats as family is endearing and a true character strength.

Overall i recommend the book, great read for book clubs as a lengthy discussion on characters and their motives can be had. A+ book.

MORE THAN THE MOVIE TO LOVE
Review created: 01/07/08

This book gives you the best of the movie and alot more added memories and different situations .Some people who love the movie as is might not like the changes but i did and enjoyed knowing what happened after the movie . It continues with the lives of Iggy , and the other lives to marriage and some death , and lets you know Iggy was still out there giving away honey as a bee charmer and telling her wild stories so look into this book for more of Fried Green Tomamtoes

The book came to me within just a couple of days from the purchase. The book was in good condition and was exactly what I needed. The book was an excellent book on the strong friendship between two southern women.

I recommend this wonderful book to all. The characters seem to come to life and I'll be honest, I pictured myself in the lead staying out all night in the roadhouse gambling and drinking beer with the locals, throwing food from a freight train to the hungry hobo junction and befriending a girl who married a vicious wifebeater. There's even a good murder mystery entwined with every day life in this sleepy southern town. It's got it all and it's all here.

This has been one of my favorite movies for years, and I finally decided to read the book. I always find it interesting what the movie creators leave in, take out and change completely.
I've seen the movie at least 6 or 7 times and will probably watch it again sometime. I'll also read the book again. I enjoyed everything about it.
And I wanted to buy it so I could keep it, not just borrow from a library.

The Whistle Stop Cafe - 20's life in Alabama

Fanny Flagg's wit and humor are personified in her characters in Fried Green Tomatoes. The reader will have no trouble at all sympathizing and downright loving Idgy Threadgoode, her pal Ruth, and everyone who lived in and around
Whistle Stop, Alabama. The movie was good, the book even better (they always are!).
