You can wiki .hack (dot hack) and see for yourself, but this game is a small part of a larger .hack story where people play online games and get trapped inside the game.

This particular game Vol.3 Redemption is the third and final volume for the game series. I personally enjoyed the game a lot with its good story line, incredible graphics and actions, and above average character systems. The makers of the game paid a lot of attention to making the game feel like an online game with other players by 1) allowing trades with other players, 2) blogs and chats with other players, 3) email correspondence, 4) sometimes online, sometimes offline status, etc.

I would say definitely try out the game from Vol.1. Each game is not as lengthy as other RPG games, so it goes by pretty quickly.

A few downsides I would point out...first three part series is definitely long and it does become somewhat repetitive. (but the real-time action battle negates some of that.) Second, in order to fully appreciate .hack//G.U., it's good to have played .hack (4-part PS2 game), or least know the story behind it, since it's all quite connected. And third, the story is great, but I guess the gamemakers wanted this whole surprise reversal at the end, so everything is kept secret for a very long time, and it sometimes is hard to understand where they are getting at.

But overall, a big recommendation from me, a bigtime RPG fan. Definitely try out this and the previous .hack series. It's 4-part so it's a bit long (and it's been some time so the games are hard to find), but it's worth the effort.

As a major .Hack fan that has seen and played .Hack//SIGN, .Hack//GAME, .Hack//LIMINALITY, .Hack//DUSK, and .Hack//ROOTS, I must say this is a wonderful ending to the series! I won't spoil anything but to get the full enjoyment out of this fabulous storyline you must have played through Vol 1 and Vol 2. The Final Boss takes about 2 hours to beat due to its many forms and spawns, even so it is still a wonderful game! With a 100 floor dungeon including bosses every 5 floors in the epilogue to back it up even after you beat the game! Overall in my opinion as a .Hack fan, GU is my favorite story line in all the series, not because it is the most recent I have seen, but because the storyline was thought up so well to this one. I am amazed at the cell shaded cinematics and the heroic growth in Haseo is a plus! Wonderful ending to a wonderful storyline! A must buy for any .Hack fan!

Did not like it as usually they messed up on the sequal.
Don't get me wrong there was plenty of eye candy but the game play was poor.
They did add some new fetures that were cool but I would not recomend this game better to go with the original .hack series
