Overall an o.k. compilation. But come on Alex Kidd and the enchanted castle,(Mario ripoff and a bad one at that),flicky and let's not forget while Echo the dolphin was groundbreaking,do you mreally need three versions? Same goes for golden axe? Where's Splatterhouse or better yet the Shining force series?Still if you are a fan of the Phantasy star series(hooray),then this is the game to buy.

  SEGA Genesis Collection PS2
Review created: 08/10/08

This game brings back a lot of memories from the arcade in the 90s, especially Golden Axe. Quality and game play are what you expect to find in a PS2 system. Definitely would recommend if you want to re-live the past arcade games from SEGA.

  sega genesis collection
Review created: 06/09/08

This is a good game, because there is plenty of sega games on one disc.My favorites include golden axe, altered beast, and comix zone. The games range from great,to average.I would have liked to see the streets of rage games included, but they were left out.Don't get me wrong this is still a fun game, and worthy of buying.

A Collection of Childhood Memories in One Package...
Review created: 12/05/07

I am glad that SEGA released this compilation of Sega Genesis of 28 collectable games in a bundle. When I play these games, it takes me back in time from 89-96... good times. I'm quite speechless as I type, because this collection will stay in my heart...

I like it because it's got a lot games, retro games from when I was a kid. I decided to buy it because it was a good deal and because I wanted it long time ago.

Hands down, the best compilation package

There are a number of compilation packages on the market these days (though dwindling due to Wii VC and Live Arcade). Available compilations include such titles as the Sonic Collection, Capcom Classics (1&2), Midway Arcade Treasures (1&2), and so forth. The SEGA Genesis Collection for the PS2, to this date, is the best of the bunch. The 28 titles included in this compilation are as follows:

(referenced from wikipedia)
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Altered Beast
Bonanza Bros.
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco: The Tides of Time
Ecco Jr.
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Kid Chameleon
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
Ristar
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi (Cut from the European version)
Shinobi III
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Super Thunder Blade
Sword of Vermilion
Vectorman
Vectorman 2
Virtua Fighter 2 (Genesis/MegaDrive version)

If that wasn't enough, this collection also features more than 35 minutes of unlockable interviews from SEGA of Japan, a "museum" with facts about the games, strategy tips for each game and a set of unlockable games: Altered Beast (arcade version), Future Spy, Tac-Scan, Zaxxon, and Zektor.

That is a ridiculously high-end series of titles for the low price of 19.99 USD. Any subset of these games individually would be worth the prices (e.g. Phantasy Star games, Sonic, Comix Zone, etc). Really, the only component one can really whine about is the lack of Gunstar Heroes or Streets of Rage -- and that's really a minor quibble considering the overall package. Furthermore, if one takes a look at the prices charged for "Arcade Classics" on Wii VC or Live Arcade (generally 5USD or higher), the price of this set is remarkable.

Sound emulation has been brought forth as a point of consideration, as it isn't perfect in all the games. However, most every one of the other compilation packages suffers similar (and most often far worse) issues with emulation. If you enjoyed the SEGA Genesis, and want to play some of the top titles from that day and age, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better way to legally pick up a similarly cost-efficient, quality set of classic titles.

  Fantastic collection!

A walk down memory lane with Alex, Sonic, and Death Adder. See why Sega ran all of those "nitendon't" ads in the early 90's. 28 Classic games from Columns to Ecco to Vectorman all faithfully reproduced. The Phantasy Star series (2-4) is worth the price tag alone. Hundreds of hours are waiting on one disk, thankfully you can now save at any point in the game (take that Kid Chameleon!). Acomplishing certain goals will unlock exclusive arcade titles and special features including interviews, videos, and artwork. My only complaint is Streets of Rage isn't included in the compilation. A must have for Sega fans!

I enjoy playing the old games that came out when I was yonger. I have played them with the kids to show the kind of video games thatI had (They can still beat me on mostf them). They play slightly different then the original Sega Genesis games but they are a lot of fun.

More than 30 games on one disc! There are plenty of games to keep the whole family busy. Sonic, Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Columns, Phantasy Star, the list goes on and on...

There are loads of extras: Interviews with industry folk, a couple arcade games, game trailers and the like.

This is well worth the money spent. Look at this way, even at 30 dollars that's less than ONE DOLLAR per game!

The games look and feel exactly like they used to. This is a must have for that old school gamer that fondly recalls the good ol' days of SEGA!

Take the good and take the bad then you have this game

If you had a genesis when you were a kid and were like me, you didn't have the chance to play all of these games. Which means mommy didn't love you. I would say that there's a decent ratio of good to bad games here. They all seem to be emulated very well. I still have the original system along with some of these games but playing with the playstation controller is so much more responsive and without huge sticking buttons.

The best part of all is the save feature. In the past this was unheard of but you can save your progress in any of these games at any time. I've grown lazy over the last few years and not having to beat Sonic and Ecco the Dolphin in one sitting makes this worthwhile all by itself. You're paying less then 75 cents a game, BUY IT!
