Nintendo NES is the Classic System
Review created: 09/22/05
538 of 612 people found this review helpful.

This is the classic - the system that started everything. And as Sony, Microsoft (Xbox) and Nintendo work on getting out their 2005-2006 models, the original Nintendo (NES) system is still the classic. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was launched in 1984 and sparked an entire industry and a generation of Nintendo lines: SNES, N64, Gamecube, and the forthcoming Nintendo...

The NES originally came with two basic controllers (a up-down-left-right pad, start, select, and the A & B buttons). In fact, Nintendo was the first system to introduce the directional pad... and another interesting note - Nintendo actually invented it! By today's standards, the controller seems ordinary - but in 1984 it was sensationally different and still more-than-adequate for their games. If you were lucky enough to buy one of the first bundles, you also got the Duck Hunt gun. The gun was used to shoot flying ducks in the original Duck Hunt game.

The lasting appeal of the NES is evident in many ways. First, the NES is still ubiquitous - plenty available and being bought on eBay, all over college campuses, etc. In fact, 15 years after selling my original system in a Washington Post classified ad, I re-purchased on from eBay! Second, the games continue to be brought back to life - in arcades, on PC, on Gameboy and other consoles. While new games are graphically more interesting, the original NES games are lastingly challenging, fun, and interesting.

In my opinion, Nothing will ever beat the gold cartridge that is Zelda. That game was - and continues to be - my favorite video game of all time.

If you are shopping for a Nintendo system on eBay, I recommend pricing both the console and a bundle. Many bundles are available that include the console, controllers, adapters and games. Whether you are looking to add a specific game or pricing a bundle - try to include these games:

# Super Mario Bros
# The legend of Zelda
# Spy vs. Spy
# Duck Hunt
# Ducktales
# Final Fantasy
# Super Mario Bros. 3
# Little Ninja Bros
# Contra
# Tecmo Superbowl
# Double Dragon II
# Ice Hockey
# Mega Man

Blank screen! DO NOT BLOW ONTO THE GAME CARTRIDGE!
Review created: 04/16/06(updated 04/16/06)

"Game doesn't work. I have to pull out tha cartridge and blow on it again."

The most common reason for NES games not to work is the dirt on the game cartridges themselves or the connectors within the NES system. Rarely games fail due to the manufacturing reasons.

Dear old Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short, since the beginning of it's existence was and is still suffering from the infamous blank screen of error. And as kids thought, well cartridge is dirty, they wanted to clean it the simplest and easies way possible - by blowing on it. What a terrible mistake it is! Nintendo NES cartridge connectors circuitry is made of copper. The socket inside NES that accepts the cartridge is metal. By blowing on a cartridge, and sometimes spitting on it, this created a thin layer of moisture that helped conduct electric charge on contact between console and the game. Ta ta! Game works! Off you went on your next adventure.

But your system and cartridge started to deteriorate and worsen with months passing. The moisture on metal started to corrode the connectors on the NES cartridges and inside consoles. No matter how many times "blowing" worked this was and is the worst thing that could be done. Never ever blow onto the cartridge.

Cleaning the cartridge. Two easy ways:

1. Use rubbing alcohol and cotton swab to clean throughly the surface of the connectors on both sides.

2. More effective way is to clean with eraser pressing on the connector surface firmly. Do not worry, they will not get damaged.

If you can obtain on eBay so called "security bits" you would be able to open the cartridge and inspect the circuit board and clean it much better, gaining full unrestricted access to both sides of the cartridge.

Cleaning the system, the tricky easy part.

Wow, I have to open the system? Can I do it?

Yes! You can! A "72 Pin connector, or adapter" can easily be found on eBay for mere 10 to 15 dollars. All that needs to be done is to open the system, remove all protective shielding and some screws with actual cartridge docking mechanism, which is very simple. People with manual skills should not have a big problem at all. It is not as difficult as many may think. Replace it with new 72 pin connector that was just bought earlier on eBay and VOILA! System is back and in fully operational condition.

While opening the system inspect it for any moisture damage, physical damage or liquid spills like soda, which could fry the system main circuit board, therefore render the system useless.

I do not guarantee a 100% success rate, but it should take care of majority of the problems people can have with the NES systems. I was able to fix seven out of nine Nintendo NES consoles that I came accross. Good luck everyone!

  Nintendo Entertainment System
Review created: 07/24/08(updated 07/24/08)

GRAPHICS: 10/10
DURABILITY: 5/10
DESIGN: 8/10
LIBRARY: 10/10
OVERALL: 10/10

The original Nintendo system, also known as the NES, is my personal favorite platform. What is there to say that hasn't already been said? The NES is a true classic in every sense of the word: it was revolutionary in its graphics, design, game play, and changed the way that people thought about gaming forever. The NES ushered in the third-generation of video game systems, being the first major system to utilize 8-bit graphics as opposed to the 4-bit processors used by the first and second-generation consoles like the Atari 2600 and the Intellivision. The system debuted in Japan in 1983, at the same time that American gamers were experiencing their own problem: the Great Video Game Crash of 1983, which was the result of several contributing factors including substandard games flooding the market and the advent of the personal computer (and a subsequent loss of interest in game systems). The NES was first imported to the U.S. in 1985, and is often credited with saving the gaming industry from certain destruction. The system was simple to setup, easily accessible, and fun from the first minute.
The NES' library is one of the most well-remembered of all time, including legendary games such as Super Mario Bros 1,2, and 3, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, and literally hundreds more.
If you wish to collect games, or even have a mild interest video gaming, the NES is a must-have for anyone, and I would recommend it to hardcore gamers and novices alike.

  Awesome Seller
Review created: 07/21/08

I purchased the original Nintendo Entertainment System from this seller who completed refurbished the console (inside and out), installed a new 72 pin connector and hand cleaned all games and controllers. From his detailed description, he was very knowledgeable about the systems and offered a 90-day return or exchange if you were not satisfied (for any reason).

What I really liked about this seller is he took the time to answer every question that I asked (and I asked a lot). From his detailed answers, he takes pride and cares about refurbishing these systems, games and controllers. He was willing to go above and beyond what he initially was selling and added more games because of price that was paid through the bidding process. He mailed my products on a Friday and I received them that Monday...that is excellent, quality customer service! I wouldn't have it any other way.

I highly recommend this seller to all...you cannot go wrong with someone like this.

  NES Nintendo Entertainment System
Review created: 07/18/08
by:

Most people who grew up in the mid 80's know one thing and that is that nothing will ever compare to the times we spent playing our NES. Sure we had the Atari and Commodores prior, but the NES was "THE SYSTEM TO HAVE". The graphical appeal at the time was downright amazing. It was 8-bit technology on a absolutely thrilling scale. The games were arcade quality, at your home. I remember playing Duck Hunt for the 1st time, it was so cool to be able to point your laser gun at the screen and shoot, with accuracy. No game offered that before, at least not one I could bring home and play against my friends.

After awhile, I was addicted to games like Tecmo Bowl, Bases Loaded, and many other sports games. It didn't require me to play for hours on end to accomplish something like most of today's games. I still had a life, I could simply push the power button, leave and come back and play with the same excitement as before. Eventually I got more and more into strategy games and then RPG's. That was it, I was forever a fan.

The way I look at it is this. The NES is the perfect system, it's brilliance is in its simplicity. Anyone can pick up a controller and play, 2 buttons and a control pad. Simple enough for anyone. In matter of fact, I had my daughter playing it at 3 years old and she was actually quite good. Today, games require so much more time, so much more practice and are basically a full time job in themselves. If you want a system that has stood the test of time, you can't go wrong with the original Nintendo. I'd love to write more, but Soda Popinski has been calling my name. Enjoy.

  NES-System
Review created: 07/18/08
by:

It's supposed to be a duplicate of the original NES system...but better! For starters, it is worse than the original NES system by far!! At least with the original NES system it would be okay to play any game once you blew in the console, but this Factory 5 Immitation has a lot of hits on the reset button from little tiny slight twirks in a CONTROLLER! not even the old system itself just a controller! It is so sensitive and cheap. When I recieved it I had two parts fall out of it while opening the box. Yes, I had shipping insurance but after recieving it, you would undestand how pointless and cheep it was to actually send it back. This wanna be new version, but worse, NES console IS IT NOT GOOD!!!

Just take 2 minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It literally takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I promise you, this is 100% real. Here is what you do. Click on the link below, register, pick an account type (referral is the easiest) and complete just 1 offer (Very important that you complete the 1 offer otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). The best offer to do is STAMPS.com. Its free, all you need to do is register and follow the instructions. And you’re on your way

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use them to get a free Xbox 360 Elite or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 4 week free trial and it is free!). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you. After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 5-13 people or friends (depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link (just post the same thing as I have on eBay or any other message board, and you'll get your referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your Xbox 360 Elite or your selected item for free, I chose the Cash. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all the referrals. All you have to do is post it on EBAY! They use us as advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you want. You must use your own authentic link though. You will get your own personal link after your orders placed.

Step 1: Click my link: http://www.360Elite4free.com/index.php?ref=5143649

Step 2: Sign up and chose an account type (Referral is the easiest and best).

Step 3: Complete just 1 offer (like Blockbuster or Stamps.com) and refer up to 13 people to do the same (use eBay! Do what I did, copy my ad).

Step 4: Receive your Xbox 360 Elite or Cash for FREE!!!!!!!!!! (Even The Shipping Is Free!!!)

For proof that this is for real, click on the link below. It's the company that is behind everything.

Where do you start with this system other than it was the first time you sat on your ACE at home other than pumping quarters into a machine in the arcade. You did not have to wait your turn in line at that big machine. Come on elders You know what I'm talking about... Besides the Bullies(the Nelson's in life...HA...Ha...) ruled those machines... Right? ATOMIC WEGGIE TIME!!!And then they took your Quarters. All in all, other than the flash with the pins that went out because you played it until 5 in the morning it is a must have!!! GAME ON!!!

....I was purchasing this item as a gift and I outlined special instructions SPECIFICALLY in both paypal and the sellers own personal invoicing site requesting to leave absolutely no receipt of payment with the item. This request was completely ignored and the gift, although arriving fast and exactly how described, turned into more of an embarassment. The tackiest thing ever is to leave a price tag on a gift and that is precisely what this seller did despite my best efforts.

I won the bid on a Nintendo NES system with games. The seller ensured the product was shipped on time and it arrived in great packing. The games and system were all in great condition. I decided to buy it because I have all the other system and I wanted a little old school to play from time to time. The system would have been better if a gun was part of the package to play duck hunt. However I'm still very happy with the Nintendo.

  Nintendo Entertainment system
Review created: 07/06/08
by:

Still one of the most well renowned systems of its time. The games are classics and must haves, and will always stand the test of time. This system is definitely the best in 8-bit gaming with its incredibly large and diverse game library. Despite the fact that the gray screen an pop up every now and again, when you get it working it becomes a nostalgia machine.
The impact of the console is truly groundbreaking with its great sound, look, and once again, the great selection of games. Any true video game collector must have this in their collection due to the values that the machine possesses. Compared to the other 8-bit consoles, Nintendo definitely took the cake with this one. Don't believe me? Then take some time to research this timeless masterpiece.
