Wonderful story, takes a while (about 3/4 through the first story) to get into. Also takes awhile to get used to the narrator, but it is totally worth it. A terrific tale once you get near the end of story #1!
I have been a reader of C.S. Lewis since 1968 while studying medieval literature. And found his writing interesting, then aquired his book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe which caught my attention and enjoyed plus drew me in. After buying and reading the series of seven fantasy novels I now own the audio series which I can share with family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful transaction and the enhancement of my library.
The Chronologies of Narnia on CD is a great item for my son. He loves to listen to books on CD while we are riding in the car. I also like to do this. I wanted this item so we could listen to the Prince Caspian book before we went to see the movie, so I got this item for his birthday. That night he listen to 3/4 of the book. He loves The Loin, The Witch, and The Wardrobe store.
I have not listened to the cd's yet but the cd's came in good condition at a good price. The next time I go to Las Vegas the cd's will be there to keep me company.
I loved listening to the Narnia books. I live in Southern California and am in bumper-to-bumper traffic daily. Listening to the books made commuting a pleasure!
My wife grew up being read the Narnia books. I was introduced to the world of Narnia through the recent movie. I've listen to much of the audio books with my wife and the stories are wonderful.
Loved the movie and I get to relive the adventure again through the great readings of each book. It is a must for all who enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia. This product is another way to visit Narnia again and again.
This was an excellent bargain. I bought it as a Christmas gift and it was 1/2 of the retail price in the store. The audio CD's are wonderfl to use since they are portable and if traveling they can be taken along. I recommend this product to others, or the visually impaired.
I have listened to 6 out of the 7 stories and enjoying every minute of it. I like how each book has a different storyteller (and all have wonderful expression and character portrayls.) The set came in all new packaging and in perfect condition. Thank you!
The books on cd are easy to use and even easier to follow along, my kids love the voice of the narrator and it is much quicker to get through than trying to read it yourself.
I only recently read the Chronicles of Narnia and fell in love with both the writer and his imaginary characters! The writing is absolutely fluid and beautiful, and swept me into an entirely different world. I am only sad that I waited 30 years to read this remarkable and unforgettable series of books by C.S. Lewis. I highly recommend this classic work!
I was first introduced to the series when my third grade teacher read the 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' to us in class. Up to that point, I wasn't much of a reader; I always chose short picture story books when I had to read. My life long love of reading started then as I read the entire series. When I married, I was shocked to discover that my 23 year old husband had never heard of Narnia. We went out and purchased the series and read them out loud to each other. Over the past 20 years we have had to trade our worn paperbacks for hardbacks as they have been read over and over by our five children (as well as my husband & myself). Our oldest child went off to college this year... guess what she's requested for Christmas... her own copy!
These books are written in a language easy enough for even young children to read and understand, yet the stories are intriguing and exciting enough to keep even teenagers and adults interested. C S Lewis masterfully wrote these stories so that at each stage in your life you would gain something more and deeper with each reading.
I was excited to see a major motion picture come out. Although the movie doesn't get everything just right, I believe it will probaby get more people experiencing the books for themselves.
Ironically... I do not like fantasy or science fiction books... but these books are in a class of their own!
I read this series many yrs. ago when i was quite a bit younger and loved them all, and am even now thoroughly enjoying the movies. i would highly recomend it to children and adults alike. fabulous!also, since most christians abhor fantasy, it's nice to see the mix here and how well it works!
I'd read this series as a child; saw the movie when it came out; and wanted to read them again. So, I bought them new on eBay (I'll have to say here that it took me a little research and questions to sellers to verify that I had the set I wanted---they didn't all know if different actors read the books). We took two very long-drive trips this summer and my husband and I listened to these (and sometimes one or more of the three kids when they weren't watching videos--yikes). I loved the fact that there is a different actor (i.e. Vanessa Redgrave, Patrick Stewart) reading the different books. We enjoyed them a lot, although the pace is somewhat slower than I remembered as a child reading them, they were still very enjoyable (we read a lot so a 4/5 is pretty great for us because we have lots of favorites). I'm finding out that audio books are great (I can still "read" once my husband turns out the lights every night!). Highly Recommend!!!!!!!!!
We recently took a 26 hour road trip and took this with us. Needless to say we were very well entertained! It's hard to go wrong with C.S. Lewis but sometimes when you are dealing with someone reading a book to you, it can sound a little cheesy. No problems at all with this set. It is very well made and we enjoyed the different actors readings. We were definitely pleased with our purchase.
I read this many years ago, long before they thought about turning it into a movie. What a story! I cried, I laughed, I worried about the children ... it looks like a child's book, but it is written for all ages. Funny how in the movie they totally missed the connection with Jesus...
This series of books is wonderful for both children and adults(with imagination). The revised sequence is wonderful and tells the story in the way we can imagine it. The classic tale of 4 children and the magical wardrobe tells the whole story from beginning to end, or could there be a sequel? The story tells of a world's beginning, the evil that tries to contaminate it, the children's purity and education that save it and "some time in the future" part that let's us know that it might have really happened. I highly recommend it for all. I can't think of anything negative to say about it at all.
I first listened to "The Magicians Nephew" and couldn't wait to listen to The Chronicles of Narnia afterward. I did like The Magicians Nephew better but still loved this story as well.
This is a child's story and is written for children. I found the story talked "down" a bit as if speaking to a VERY YOUNG child. That was a bit off-putting.
The story of friendship and family and doing what is right is never old. This will take you to a far off land and you will be lost. I do recommend it.
My second son got me interested in this book. Children's stories are always fun and this book takes you to a place that could exist. The characters are wonderfully mythical with so many human traits. It's a little mind boggling when the children go back and forth into their "real" lives versus Narnia. We all dream of having a different status somewhere and this story fulfills that fantasy. All I can say is that it made me daydream about where I could be even if I'm way past being a "child".
This set of books tell the story of four children in war time England. Their adventures in Narnia, a land reached by going through an old wardrobe, are exciting for young and old to read. The morality taught is also something we all need to hear. Aslan is a wonderful, larger than life, lion who helps the children find their way, in all things. This fantasy world created by CS Lewis has become a familiar place to those who love these stories, one that anyone would love to visit. These cds keep your attention while traveling no matter what age your are. My grandkids love them.
If you are interested in the classic Good vs. Evil fantasy genre, there is no better "listen" than this exciting epic by C.S. Lewis. For those who have never had the pleasure of reading 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' my suggestion is to listen to this book FIRST, although it is second in the order. Lewis wrote this book first, intended it to be read first, and it is around this book that all the others are based.
While many assume these books to be specifically for children, the mature listener will glean much in the way of subtle references to mid-20th century England and especially references to the stories of Christianity in the Bible. If you are particularly religious, you will enjoy this collection immensely. However, the rest of us will certainly enjoy this book too, just as we enjoy all Good vs. Evil epics, such as Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter.
