"Between The Wars" is one of Al Stewart's "intellectual rock/political" albums that contain songs that he rarely performs on tour. A bit of knowledge of European history is helpful in understanding the lyrics but, the guitars Al and Laurence Juber need no explanation at all ... they are excellent. "Night Train To Munich" is the story of a partisan's train ride into Nazi Germany, "When Lindy Comes To Town" is an upbeat tale of a visit by Charles Lindberg, Europe is divided up after WWI by "A League of Notions"-(Nations), Stalin's associates await him in Hades in "Joe the Georgian". If you liked "Russians and Americans", you're gonna LOVE "Between the Wars".
