War movies usually have a lot of action, but not much emotion or philosophical insights into war and life in general. Platoon is an exception. We go on a sojourn with the protagonist, played very well by a younger Charlie Sheen, through the innocence of being 18 years old and enlisting and being dropped into the middle of Vietnam. We see his struggles, his adjustments, how tired he always is, his internal conflicts with his commanding officers, his constant mode of survival, and his utter loss of innocence. Wow! Very absorbing war movie about Vietnam.
