V For Vendetta (2006, DVD)

This is a wonderful movie that has a nice original plotline. It examines how people can be fooled by their governments as a result of propoganda and media control. It makes you understand how easily people can be controlled when fear is instilled in them.

The mystery and intrigue will captivate you. The plot twist will enthrall you. The storyline will draw you in. You identify with the characters in this movie and you actually root for and empathize with the "bad guy" who you realize may not be so bad after all.

This movie combines a unique storytelling style with a forward and flamboyant message, wrapping up a smorgasbord of ideologies in a driven package. However, overly-conservative viewers should be advised: this movie is progressive in its thinking, and may easily offend those of certain perspectives. For those willing to think outside the box, the movie will provide a thought-provoking ride mixed with excellent dramatic work and a fair helping of action; for those with extremely set views in opposition to its cause, it will likely prove an unpleasant, distasteful ride.
One of the neatest things about this movie is that the main character, V (played by Hugo Weaving), remains in a mask essentially throughout, necessitating unique performance to portray emotion from behind the eternally-smiling Guy Fawkes visage--performance which Weaving handles beautifully.
Evey Hammond, played by Natalie Portman, is also a character who becomes transformed through the course of the movie, and in so doing serves as something of a distilled icon of the movie's message itself. It's a beautiful transition, despite the somewhat jarring visual image of Portman shaved bald.
It remains, even after many watchings, one of my favorite movies ever.

I cannot fathom what my commencing point should be to expound on such a film of this magnitude. This is possibly the most epic and provocative film of the 21st century so far (its 5/4/08). I have not witnessed a sci-fi thriller that was able to blend action, political philosophy, and a love/ hate relationship so seamlessly as this film has. However, don't let the futuristic setting fool you, this film can almost be viewed as a reenactment of the communist government of the Soviet Union or the fascist government of Italy under Mussolini. This is a artistic twist on the Gunpowder Treason and Plot of 1605 (look up Guy Fawkes to learn more). The film starts with a moving quote: "Remember, remember the fifth of November: the Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I do not know a reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot." There is not enough space for me to sxplain why it moved me so much , but i can tell you that it did. I profoundly recommend this movie for anyone. Freedom Forever!

This is currently my favorite movie so of course I had to have the best DVD package available. The holographic cover is quite fantastic but the extra disc is the worst most sparse disc I have ever, EVER, seen. There's like three things on it.

It does come with a small book that I thought was the Graphic Novel but it's only the first two chapters of the graphic novel. So beware when buying.

So in the end I can't click on a rating because the movie is five star excellent but the special package, beyond the cover, is a bloody joke.

I saw this movie when it was released and I thought it was awesome, so I decided to add it to my library. Highly recommend this movie especially if you like action and drama and seeing the bad guys get their butts kicked!

An amazing portrayal of a police government where the government has complete control over public and most of the people's private lives. Coupled with amazing action and writing this movie is one of the best. Brilliant, Witty, & Inspiring! I can say nothing but good things about this movie and I highly recommend everyone at least attempt to get into this movie because if it gips you, it grips you hard. If you like the matrix it is a given you will like this movie!

this is one of my favorite movies, its just a really good action/dystopia movie. great script, great acting, great effects.

My husband and I love this movie. V for Vendetta is now our all-time favorite movie. The storyline is superb and so is the acting. Highly recommend to adults who have an open mind for a great story and who like movies with some action and violence.

I had not read a review or heard anything about this but rented it by chance.

Yes this is a great movie. A compelling story yet familiar, like all the good versus evil stories. I won't lay out the plot - you can read that above - but I will mention a thing or two.

The evil - in this case the Parliament government of Britain - has a big brother like grasp over its subjects. The power of the Chancellor, brought about by fear, reminds me of Alan Parkers vision of an evil party coming to power in Pink Floyd; The Wall - a vision reminiscent of the uprising of a famous party that came to power in Germany in the 1930's. The use of black, red and white colors emphasizes this.

The good, an unknown man in a mask, has a very solid plan to bring about a change to the control of the government. Mix Zorro with the Phantom of the Opera and there you have him.

Fear is a large topic in this film. Fear is what gives the government power. The main masked character named "V" seems to have turned the table by making the government afraid of the people, (but the people don't know this).

The story unfolds through our main girl and our main cop.
GIRL: the innocent victim / yearning to do the right thing / judge and jury / symbol of a new era.
COP: fills in some of the blanks and maintains a wonderful balance of duty versus doing the right thing. Some of the "red tape" of government conflicts his instinct to bring the truth out or catch the villain. But just who is the villain?

The cop and our main heroine, having seen enough of the situation, lose their fear and act on what every decent human acts upon, the need to make things fair and just.

Balance is a good word for this movie. Everything unfolds in perfect balance. There is a little bit of that Matrix stop motion time slowing action in this film but it is done in moderation, or in perfect balance to the rest of the film. The sets, the filming, the actors, the lighting, the dialog were all great. Movement, or flow, never got too slow or too fast - again, perfectly balanced.

Maybe just a little too English for this American but it was supposed to be in England so I'll have to ruddy deal with the language thing.

One other note. The transition from the last scene to the end credits works out perfectly! The end of the movie fades to black, then the Rolling Stones song Street Fighting Man kicks in as the credits start to roll. The feeling the movie leaves with you at the end, coupled with this song is genius. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. It shouts "Here's the deal, NOW GO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!"

THE BOTTOM LINE: A must own movie. Got to watch it twice to catch everything so you might as well buy it. You'll want to watch it again in a year - maybe every year - say around November 5th! Great movement, actors, story, visuals.

This is best movie I have ever seen. Before V for Vendetta my best movie was Mutany on the Bounty with Marlin Brando.I just like it when someone who stands up for the little people.Even if V is fictional it shows that everyone as to be accountable for there actions even Government can become sick look at the Nazi Government.Its people believed in it.Remember Remember the 5th of November.The gun powder treason and plot.

The fist time I saw V for Vendetta I knew I had to own it, I've always had great buying experiences on eBay so I automatically came here to buy it. When I bid on this DVD the seller's feedback was very good so I felt confident with him and ended up winning the item. That was nearly two months ago and I still have not received my DVD. I was and still am very disappointed, somtimes it happens, this was my first bad experience. I do recomend this DVD though it is an excellent movie!!

This movie is based on a comic book. Unlike other comic book heros e.g. Superman, The X Men and Batman or Spiderman, "V" takes justice into his own hands in the hopes of shaking up the complacid lives of the people of the country. The Government is so very very corrupt and it's people afraid of their own shadow.
I have found the message of this movie a wake up call to the people who sit back and wait for someone else to act. Those people who will not vote, who will not go to a town meeting or who simply will not get involved if it means sticking their heads out of their comfortable lives for fear of losing what they think they have.
"V" represents strength of conviction. He says he's going to do it and he does.
Hugo Weaving is excellent in this movie. I never thought of him as sexy, however his portrayal of "V" well actually his voice under the Guy Fawkes masks was brilliant.
Natalie Portman was magnificent.
My only negative observation was the chemistry between Hugo and Natalie. They were just barely OK together. The tender moments between them seemed forced and very scripted. After he crawled back to her after the Victoria Station confrontation, I did not find her believable. Additionaly, at this scene, there seemed to be a switch of some sort where Natalie may have been acting in front of a blue screen and not really talking to "V".
On the whole, I suggest you purchase this for your DVD collection. The soundtrack was wonderful, the Director 99% on the money and my highest praise to the set designers.
The Shadow Gallery was absolutely beautiful.

V for Vendetta is truly a remarkable film with issues concerning peoples rights and the Goverment who want abolish certain rights.

The story is unbelievable characters are closely matched. Poor job on evey but overall good characters. A must see for movie enthusiest

V for Vendetta is a policital based movie. Now, that may turn you off, at first, but once you watch you realize that it is so much more. It's not one of the simple "the government sucks" type movies. It has depth and formation to the plot and its characters. It is honestly one of the best movies I've seen in a long time!

V for Vendetta is an absolute masterpiece for post modern, Orwellian story lovers! Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving at there absolute best!!!

I decided to acquire this DVD as I loved the show when it first came out. Add to that, the fact that my Country has decided to cut a important line out of the Dialogue by V, made my decision all the more easier for me to want to get it.
The extras included in this 2 Disc Special Edition DVD is awesome and gives a great insight into the Graphic Novel, the History of the Gunpowder Plot as well as the imagination and creativity of the Wachowski Brothers and their crew into bringing to life this great Graphic Novel to life.
If you love the Matrix and the Wachowski Brothers, you'll definately want to get this!
