if you are a truly devoted Christian and do your best to not watch movies that contradict the will of God....you would probably do your best to avoid this movie...this is todays Christianity i guess you could say at its finest....its a great movie i think in honesty as a movie, but i give the poor review because i bought it particularly off of a Christian movie site, hoping to watch a good Christian film...i hide this film so that none of my Christian friends want to borrow it because i do not want them to see it... the Pastor played by "Jeff Carr" is a very agressive angry, and proud Pastor who never really learns self control, whom lives a life that would shock me if he actually was truly biblically saved with the Spirit of God dwelling in him....i do not believe this movie would make a real Christian, nor do i believe it could possibly help a person be a better Christian, but rather it seems to water down sin.....for a film, i give this 4 out of 5....but for a Christian film its absolute garbage, that will do more harm than good....the movie seems more weakly religious rather than truly loving the Lord, and believing on him
This movie has a very powerful inspirational message of faith for everyone, and teaches leaders and Pastors the true meaning of fellowship and devotion before God. Awesome movie
I went in to the Christian movie watching experience with fear of being the let down. After "Facing the Giants," I was starting to believe that Christians could make movies that were enjoyable to watch. The Second Chance is a movie that has so much to say. It has a many sub-plots and many of the questions raised in the movie were never answered or wrapped up with a tidy packaging. . .loved it. This movie dominated my thinking for the next couple of days. I bought the movie because I wanted to show it at church- probably will not show it to a mass audience. But personally- I love this movie.
I am an advid fan of Michael W. Smith. I was surprise how well his acting ability is! The story line was intresting and adventurous. There were definately lessons to be learned by the characters and those who watch the DVD.
This Dvd is amazing I would recomend it to every one to watch. there may be tears and laughing and or just looking wide eyed but it is a great movie. get it watch it share it.
This movie has a strong message that will speak to many CHRISTIANS and hopefully convict them to action. I showed it to our teens at Church. I would reccomend it to everyone age 13 up. Great for families to use to start a discussion with their teens.
We really liked this movie and was impressed with the acting of Michael W. Smith, singer turned actor. We thought it had a great Christian message and was a good family movie. We did not like the ending and was not impressed with a few episodes of bad language even though it added some interesting parts to the movie. We decided to buy it after seeing an advertisement for it on Facing the Giants and thought it would be a good Christian movie. The price was perfect on ebay and cheaper than other stores we looked into buying it at.
The movie's trailer was better than the movie itself. Michael W. Smith does an excellent job in his movie debut. What I did not like was the "better than thou" attitude of the Black minister just because his church was in the poorer part of town. While Smith's character, as a pastor in training, came to appreciate the ministry of this urban church, the Black minister never seemed to change his attitude toward Smith's character nor or his "mother" church. Would not recommend the movie to other Christians.
The story is intriguing -- a young pastor of a prosperous, suburban megachurch, more caught up in being "mega" than "church" is sent by his father, the Senior Pastor, to serve a mission in what was the megachurch's first building in the inner city. That opens the door for some self-serving real estate deals by church board members. It is comforting to watch his arrogance fade as caring comes in. Great music by Michael W. Smith! The outcome is a bit of a surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed!
This is a great film for the whole family. It has Saturday night entertainment with Sunday morning values. I would recommend this film to anyone that wants a good morally film with great entertainment quality.
This is a GREAT Christian movie that tells it like it is. It is about a large suburban church (with all the trimmings) that funds a small inner city church. The contrast between the two churches is amazing. The pastor's son is "exiled" to the black church hoping that his time there will bring a change in his arrogant attitude. I liked this movie so much that I bought six of them through eBay to give to our pastors and friends. It is difficult if not impossible to see this moving without feeling conviction and compassion. There is a footwashing scene that will break your heart. I recommend it without reservation. It holds your interest from beginning to end. Would be good for a full length movie feature at a youth meeting or retreat.
I have been a fan of Steve Taylor's for years. I love his music and have seen some of his earlier short films. I think that the script is uneven. It has some nice moments but comes across as too sentimental and even didactic at times. Editing was weak and the finale seemed contrived. It would have been better to have ended the film ten minutes earlier.
M.W. Smith's acting was not up to the job for a feature-length film. The acting of Jeff Obafemi Carr was very good, as was Lisa Arrindell Anderson's. The remainder of the supporting cast was below par, particularly of the wooden, one-dimensional church board. This might make a good addition to a church camp's movie night as it's better than most other films created for the Christian marketplace, but as a major release, it disappointed.

I purchased a DVD from this ''seller'' about 6 weeks ago. To date, I have not received the item, nor have I received any feedback the seller, as I have sent two messages to him/her. Additionally, half.com has been very unhelpful in responding to the claim that I filed, and I have not yet received a refund for the purchase price, either from half.com or the seller.
I am a fan of Michael W. Smith so I like everything he does. However I did like the movie and believe he did a great job for his first time. It could have more of him singing in but overall I liked it very much
I bought the movie because I've been a MWS fan since the early 80's... I really enjoyed the movie & would recommend it to anyone. Although some off-color language will keep it from being shown in many churches, the movie may offer a more truthful look at modern American church than many may be ready to accept. AAA+++
I purchased The Second Chance DVD because its star, Michael W. Smith has been a favorite singer in my CD collection for many years. This movie definitely draws a line between my world and the other side of town. I wanted to see if Michael W. Smith could act as well as sing. I was not disappointed. He is an excellent actor and very photogenic. The supporting cast was also very believable. This movie covers a controversial topic presenting two very different ways of life and is a good springboard for families who want to discuss getting along in this world with other races. It is a very good family oriented film.
This is probably the most powerful movie I've seen since The Passion of the Christ. It is not only for those in church leadership, but it is a challenge to let God search our hearts (Psalm 139:23-24). It is a film about surrender and being humble, about following after God and His plan for your life. This film should be seen by every Christian!
Wow, I was completely shocked by this movie. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Very inspirationaland and thought provoking. This is a must see movie. If you are reading this and considering the movie, I recomment you get it. You will not be disappointed.
Michael surprisingly does an amazing job actin in this film. I thought the film would be another cheezy video featuring a known artist. I was so wrong. I was moved and touched in ways that words are hard to express. I volunteer at a ministry similar to the one discribed in the film and I am now inspired to do all the more to love, reach out and fight injustice in in the name of Jesus. This is a must see for everyone!
