Two For the Money DVD - Still Money, But only a 4/5
Review created: 03/14/06

Two For The Money is a highly enjoyable DVD that features a strong cast (good acting from Al Pacino, Armand Assante, Jaime King, Jeremy Piven, Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Garman, and Rene Russo), a great concept (sports and gambling - awesome!), the killer combination of Jeremy Piven and Matthew McConaughey) and good direction... So why isn't Two For the Money a 5/5 rated DVD? Unfortunately the film is too predictable. Its clear to see (from the previews and progressing plot) that McConaughey will hit a rough streak, Pacino will get grumpy and upset, etc. Yet Two for the Money is still enjoyable and a fun ride percisely because the characters allow it to be. This film could have easily collapsed and become a dragging movie... But it is continually saved by Piven, McConaughey and sports gambling!

Two for the Money (2006, DVD)

Two for the Money has a formidable cast: Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey, and Rene Russo (Get Shorty) play compulsive personalities caught up in the high-testosterone world of sports betting. Brandon Lang (McConaughey, Sahara), a once-promising football player sidelined by an injury, has an uncanny knack for totting up the statistics and personalities involved in any football game and picking the winner. But he doesn't gamble himself: He offers tips via a phone line. His string of successful picks attracts the attention of Walter Abrams (Pacino, The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon), a man building a media empire on sports tips, even though he himself can only resist his own gambling addiction thanks to the fierce devotion of his wife, Toni (Russo, Tin Cup, Get Shorty). Brandon swiftly becomes Walter's protege and transforms into an aggressive, high-risk salesman, even going so far as to change his name to create a new self. But when Brandon starts to think of his knack as magic, everything Walter has built around his golden boy starts to teeter. Two for the Money starts with punchy dialogue and razzle-dazzle acting, but midway it starts to founder; the characters never quite feel real, the plot grows labored and implausible, and the basic themes--gambling, addiction--turn vague and fuzzy. The actors have charisma to burn, but they can't overcome an unfocused script. Also featuring Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Armand Assante (The Mambo Kings), and Jaime King (Bulletproof Monk).

I bought the NewPhone 74205 three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

  Disappointing

I was very disappointed. The writers didn't write a strong enough story. You know you're in trouble when the whole movie is based around football betting, but they use old USFL highlight clips the entire time.

I thought the Two For The Money was an excellent movie. I like it because Matthew McConaughey is in the movie plus it was about sports . Decided to buy the Two for the Money because I liked the story line, Matthew McConaughey was in it and it was a great price.
