Not the Highlight of U2, but solid effort

coming off the heals of Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, it's hard to say Zooropa is even on the same level as those outstanding albums. but for a U2 fan this still offers some good tracks; the title track is mellow but good, Numb is not my favorite, but got some radio and video play when it came out. l like the way the album picks up at the half, with Stay and the catchy Daddy's going to pay for your Crashed Car. The First Time and Dirty Day round out some good tracks before the Johny Cash song the Wanderer.

 Babyface

I have a lot of respect for Brian Eno but I really don't like U2. There was a time when their music appealed to me but that was a very long time ago. That said, this album is fairly good and remains the only U2 album I have in my collection. Johnny Cash is an added bonus as he sings The Wanderer. 3 1/2 Stars.

 My favorite CD

I had a good transaction and my new CD was in good shape. No scrathes or smudges, it looked brand new.
I would buy goods from EBayer again. Ebayer was very imformative and helpful. Shipping was slow but it was not Ebayer's fault. He was in touch with me the whole time.
I was very pleased with my purchase.

They say they want the Kingdom, but they don't want God in it...

Pros:
Most of the electronic tinkering and atypical songwriting pays off.

Cons:
Uneven pacing, a few lyrical duds... and Johnny Cash? WTF???!!!

As I arrive at my next destination in my trip backwards through the U2 canon, I feel the need to state the obvious before dissecting Zooropa - this is definitely the weirdest thing you can ever expect to hear out of U2. At least, it is if you don't count that weird Passengers project that showed up between this record and Pop. (I decided not to go there.) Released in the middle of what many considered to be a confused decade for the band, Zooropa might never have been an album under different circumstances. From what I've gathered, the band was working on a follow-up to Achtung Baby, the...

Don't "Numb" yourself to the brilliance of this album
Review created: 09/18/01

Pros:
Great, diverse tracks

Cons:
Short, very short

I ll be the first person to admit that I love U2. I think that the band is brilliant; nearing the level of genius. That aside, this album is superb. Zooropa is a refreshing and welcome change from some of their earlier albums. Many critics and fans found themselves bewildered by this Brian Eno and Flood produced album. The music has a much more apparent electronica feel than past rock and pop offerings from the boys from Dublin. The band first met after a young Larry Mullen placed an ad in a newspaper looking to start a band. That was twenty five years ago. The rest of U2 s rise to...

My Least Favorite U2 Album (Sorry, Bono!)
Review created: 05/11/01
by: JediKermit -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
A few good songs...

Cons:
Even those few are more "interesting" than "good."

I love U2. This sometimes creates confusion with my wife, in those urgent whisperings of "I love you" and "I love you too." Sometimes we have to say "I love you back," to avoid the consternation of thinking, "what an inappropriate time to bring up his favorite band..." But even U2 has missteps. And Zooropa is the biggest of them, in my book. I've owned this CD for about four years, and I've only listened to it a handful of times. Every once in a while I throw it on to see if it's somehow grown on me, but it turns out it hasn't. There are some powerful guitar and drum combos on here, but none..

"Sucks" seems like such an immature term, but if the synthesizer fits, play it.

Pros:
Parts of "Babyface," "Lemon," "Numb," and "The Wanderer" show promise.

Cons:
Devoid of emotion, quality songwriting, and actual instrumentation.

A band as brilliant as U2 is, often, a paradox. Whereas lesser artists might need to mess around with different styles, they rarely have the financial resources to do so. Yet, U2, an utterly brilliant band, doesn't need to experiment and embrace new styles--- but, because they can, they often do. Such is the paradox that plagues Zooropa. While the band's 1991 album Achtung Baby sort of hinted at a more dance-rock direction, it was brilliant as a whole, utilized actual instrumentation to create their dance-like sound (as opposed to layers upon layers of synthesizers), and it retained the...

U2 Creates Pop Muzik on Zooropa
Review created: 10/15/03
by: MattA75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
some excellent pop songs, a nicely crafted album

Cons:
Lemon is HIGHLY annoying, The Wanderer is out of place

Most everyone agrees that Irish rockers U2 are one of the greatest bands of all time. Most everyone also agrees that the band's two best albums without question are 1987's The Joshua Tree and 1991's Achtung Baby. And despite the protests of diehard U2 fans, most everyone seems to agree that U2's darkest period was when they released Pop in 1997, and then went out on the overblown, overexpansive, overEVERYTHING PopMart tour later that year. This is not to say that Pop was a bad album, just that it was not exactly a good one either. Next to October, Pop is the album most reamed by fans. Also...
