You've Got Mail (1999, DVD)

I love, love this movie. My husband has hundreds of movies & DVD's, but I think this is the only one I ever actually bought for myself.The movie is based on the storyline of classic 1940 movie Shop Around the Corner. Shop around the Corner starred Margaret Sullivan & Jimmy Stewart. The "computer" age couple are Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks. They have an online chatting relationship and end up falling in love over the internet. The trouble is in the "real world" they are actually enemies. Meg Ryan plays Kathleen Kelly owner of a small children's book store. She has inherited the store from her beloved mother. She believes in personal customer service, knows her shoppers by name, has children's story hours etc. Jean Stapleton plays a good part as one of Kelly's employees. Tom Hanks plays Joe Fox, owner of the big chain bookstore. He is opening a giant store right around the corner from Kelly's quaint little shop and has no concern for her business. Sadly the big guy eventually puts her out of business. People seem to be more concerned with a better price than good customer relations. Of course in the end they meet & fall in love, how else would a love story end! Men might not like this movie too much but you gals will. I watch it if I feel a little down & it lifts my spirits. Meg & Tom make a cute couple! Hope you enjoy it too!

This movie was reccomended to me by a friend, so I bought it at a great price. I thought this was a very cute movie!

Different twist to the boy meets girl romance show. Girl meets boy, doesn't like boy but likes him on email. Don't be concerned everything works out okay.

I love this movie!!! Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan together again!!! Their dynamic is as wonderful in this movie as in Sleepless in Seattle.

This is an engaging story that I still enjoy watching. The concept of internet friends who live near and pass by each other daily, and never realize it, is very well done. The hostility that arises when the small bookstore owner (Ryan) is put out of business by a mega bookstore chain (Hanks), is poignant since neither realize that they have, on the internet, an anonymous, but warm friendship. How this all plays out is a large part of the story.

The item was received quickly and in the condition as described. I had no problems and would recommend the seller for future purchases.

What an awesome 'chick flick'....one of my very favorites!! You have to love Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks! Very fun and relaxing to watch.

I love this movie. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are so good together. It has a cute theme. I could do without many failing relationships between all the Fox men. Especially the Nanny running off with the ex wife.

Clean and very entertaining. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are a great match and make the movie very believable.

DVD extras are pretty interesting - especially the tour of New York sites they shot in and around during the shooting of the movie.

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are both great in their roles. Tom as the big bad large corporation book store executive and Meg as the owner of a small neighborhood bookstore who has been put out of business by Tom's large corporation. Tom, of course, is not a bad guy, just a successful businessman. Anyway, it's a very sweet movie and ends so happily, it makes me misty. You need to own this one.

This movie i love to death. It has two very good actors to start out. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have great chemistry together. All you internet people out there who go to chat rooms will love this one. These two couple meet in a chat room on Meg Ryans 30th birthday. They agree to be online buddies but they don't give out any specifics. She owns a book store called shop around the corner. Well little does she know that the man she is talking to is also the man who is opening his own book store called fox books which is putting her out of buisness. Well eventually after chatting with him for a long while like months and months she falls in love with him. I'm not going to say no more you will have to watch this movie yourself to find out what happens. Make sure you have a box of kleenex though cause your gonna need it for this one. So be careful who you chat with and always make sure that u arn't enemie in the real world lol.

Really a priceless movie, film itself and soundtrack. The DVD I purchased is in perfect condition and it also has a unique case which is special.

There are just some movies that are worth seeing again and again. You've Got Mail is that movie. Feeling a little low...You've Got Mail will pick you up. Feeling a little sad...You've Got Mail will put a smile on your face. It's like coming home from a hard day and putting on your favorite piece of comfy clothing...it doesn't need to be flashy, no one else needs to love it...you do, and it just feels good! I wanted a movie that I could add to my collection that would be timeless. A movie to watch again and again. I only buy movies that I would like to see repeatedly, that I wouldn't mind taking on the camping trip and watching a few more times. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan just work so well together, and this is a must see for Hanks and Ryan fans. You won't be sorry if you choose to add this one to your collection.

One of the 3 classic romantic comedies starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan--the other 2 being "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Joe and the Volcano." I liked this movie because it shows how modern technology can bring two lost souls together in spite of their external lives.

I'm going to keep it short and simple. If you liked Sleepless in Seattle then you will love this one. Tom Hanks owns a big book company like "walmart" that is trying to weed out small businesses and mom & pop book stores like the one Meg Ryan owns. Meg meets a guy online whom she falls in love with and it turns out to be Tom Hanks. Tom has a crush on her and plays with her on her relationship never telling her he is the man she met online. It is a nice chick flick and a good love story. Buy it!!

I bought this movies august 2005, I think it's one of good comedy romantic movies.tom hank and meg ryan give their good performance in this movies. you must watching this movies before deciding to looking for dating with your lovely girl through internet. :D
