One of Pearl Jams best cd's. I bought this cd because my 16 year-old son, who was killed 3 1/2 years ago, listened to his Yield cd all the time. When he was killed, all of his music was stolen. It has taken me this long to be able to stand to hear these songs again, but now they bring back good memories of him. Thank you.

PJ's Fifth and greatest since Ten
Review created: 07/08/06
by:

Great Album! Every song on this album could've been a hit. They fused in pop elements, such as zips and whirr's with their guitars during the choruses, in their songs. Songs such as, "Pilate", "Faithful", "In hiding" are some of the most colorful tunes I've ever heard from the group. Of course you can't forget the awesome, "Do the Evolution" which was PJ's first video they made since "Ten".

  Pearl Gems?
Review created: 04/14/06

Another fairly mediocre, rock album that sounds like it was something Neil Young threw away. But that is the confusion that was Pearl Jam back then. However there are a couple surprising gems just thrown in to remind you why you keep buying their cd's.

Yield by Pearl Jam -- only four stars?
Review created: 03/06/03
by: HawgWyld -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Solid, guitar-based rock which is amazingly consistent

Cons:
A lack of "hooks;" pales when compared with other Pearl Jam discs; "Pilate" stinks

There are times when Epinions rating system just doesn't work out well. This is one of those times. Here's the problem, 1988's Yield by Pearl Jam is a fantastic album which is head-and-shoulders above damn near anything that was released in 1988 (or, throughout the 1990's, for that matter). So, it deserves five stars, right? In my view, nope. Here's the thing -- the album is fantastic, but just not as good as the rest of Pearl Jam's discs. In my view, Pearl Jam has never released a bad album, but Yield just doesn't rank up there with the rest of them. So, I've given this fine disc a "four...

"make my Jam the P.Jam," act five
Review created: 02/15/04
by: Stairway2Drew-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
matured sound, songs; uplifting, triumphant tunes with a classicist bent

Cons:
slow start?

Several years ago, a young, disappointed listener would have you believe that Pearl Jam's fifth album is/was anything less than fantastic. My present-day adjective is to dissuade you from the position once taken on this album, Yield, by that young, disappointed listener. After all .. what does he know? And who, pray tell, am I to denounce the opinion of another? In a completely unheralded and startling revelation, I _am_ that young man. I am that young Ten fan who somehow found Ten's emotional complexities and entanglements and anthemic, disaffected bombast more interesting and stimulating...

  Pearl Jam's Best Since "Ten"
Review created: 05/10/00
by: awoolcott -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Lots of hard-hitting tunes

Cons:
Some of the lyrics a bit whacked out

Make no mistake about it: I am a big Pearl Jam fan. I have all 5 studio albums and the live one. And Yield, released in 1998, is the best they have put out since their debut effort, "Ten." Mix an edge not seen in quite some time from them, along with Eddie Vedder's trademark angerous voice, you get a CD worth spending the money on, and one you'll be listening to for a long time. The CD kicks off to a rocking start with "Brain Of J." With lines like "Who's got the brain of JFK/What's it mean to us now?" you obviously get the impression that it's about JFK. Apparently Eddie is wondering what it.

Another Step in Pearl Jam's Evolution
Review created: 12/16/01
by: PacManY2J-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Music

Pros:
Cohesive, great works from all band members

Cons:
none

Pearl Jam has changed its style quite a bit since the release of Ten. Over the past decade, the Seattle rockers have experimented with many different sounds, but I think their true style came across best in 1998 with the release of their fifth album, Yield. Ten and Vs. are regarded as classics that helped define the grunge era. Most of the songs were angry and intense, but they could turn it down into something soothing and beautiful (Black, Elderly Woman ) every now and then. On Vitalogy, they experimented with strange, darker sounds while still producing some big hits. The highly underrated.

  Yield: Pearl Jam's Finest Hour
Review created: 10/20/04
by: lontaniz -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
It's energetic, mellow, heavy, beautiful, hard...it's a masterpiece.

Cons:
Pilate and Push Me Pull Me.

Yield is the gem, the brilliant masterpiece released in 1998 when Pearl Jam had faded away from the "popular" scene. The band had settled their internal conflicts and found a balance and, especially, a harmony that came with Jack Irons as their new drummer. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Irons was one of the basic reasons of Pearl Jam's current existence, him being the person that gave Eddie Vedder the tape of some of Stone Gossard early works, which later would become Ten. This all happened back in 89-90 when Irons where tied up elsewhere, but Vedder long..
