FASCINATING account of Chinese history through the eyes of a young woman. I read this before my trip to China. The historical background was very helpful filling in many of the details which our tour guide was reluctant to discuss. The book is banned in China.....so finish it before you plan to enter the country!
At first i bought this book because it was a book report thing. My teacher told me that this book would be interesting and would teach history at the same time. I has always been interested in Asian history so once I started reading this book I couldnt let it down. I found it very delightful to read because it tells about the history of the women status in China and the wars and Communists in China. It is very interesting to read about how the author's grandmother and mother lived through all the unfair treatment that was put upon them. I would tottally recommend this book to whoever love reading about history or just for entertainment reading. You will never want to put the book down and you will be surprise by how fast you would be able to finish the book that is about 300 pages long :]
This is a GREAT book. For anyone who thinks that communism is a wonderful way of life needs to read this book. It was quite an eye opener as to how horrible the Chinese people were treated and the history of China through someone who thought that communism was great. I highly recommend this book.
