This is the first book I've read by Billie Letts. I am now a fan and will look for the author again. I loved Novalee Nation, the main character in "Where the Heart Is". I admired her strength in the face of adversity. I am a southern girl myself and love reading about the kindness and compassion of strangers in the small town and the affect it had on Novalee's life and how she in turn so richly affected their lives.
two things that I didnt like in this was there was a lady that was taking care of Novallie and her daughter and she dies. The other part is Novalies boyfriend leaves her at a walmart. I mean what kind of man does that to the mother of his unborn child?. Otherwise the movie is wonderful the part that I liked was that Novallie met this guy that cared about her and her daughter. I think the message is you can find love even if your not looking for it or dont expect it and if you have been hurt before by a guy you cared about there will be another one that cares more about you then the last one did and you will fall in love all over again.
my daughter just loves the book thanks for shipping so quick she had wanted the book for a while and when she seen it - i just thought we must get this book
This is a book that shows the heart of a small town that took a lonely girl and her baby that was born at WalMart into it's heart and where she found people of every walk she could love. It showed to heart break of fame for a father who abandoned this gal and what greed did to him. I was lost in the book
My greatest feeling in reading this is the strength and perception of life this girl shows, jerky mom, jerky father to be, she just focuses on the love she gets from the baby to be. The shelter she finds in walmart is amazing this book is just a great heartwarming story with characters you will never forget from the teenage mom to be to the librain, and even brings you to the honesty of 12 step programs, No one coud find this book not in the excellent range. easy to follow you will hate to see it end
I really loved this book and thought it was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. I laughed, cried, got angry, grieved and felt joyous. A good book to me is when it touchs on all of your emotions. Another thing that I really liked about it was that it was a fast and easy read. The story was so bizarre and yet the writer made it all so believable. When I finsihed the book I felt as if I personally knew all the characters, the town and was the main character. WOW!!!
This book is a feel-good plain ol' chick novel. I enjoyed it so much I was extra happy when they came out with the movie.
This is the story of a young girl named Novalee Nation, who most would consider having the typical "white trash" or "redneck" sort of background. Without giving away too much of the story, I'll just put it like this: Novalee faces a pregnancy alone, away from her home and family, after the baby's father abandones her at a Wal-Mart. Novalee shows the strength and heart of a woman throughout the years and trying circumstances that follow. "Where The Heart Is" is a story of compassion that will break your heart and heal it again over and over as you follow this girl into womanhood.
If you appreciate very well-told and developed tales of drama and the trials of life, you will likely appreciate this book!
I loved reading this book because it was easy reading with an entertaining story. Sometimes you just need to read a good book that doesn't have you thinking and guessing ahead all the time. This book just tells a good story.
This was a wonderful book. I wanted a “light-hearted-feel-good” story and this surpassed all my expectations. The main character, Novalee Nation, is seventeen and pregnant and traveling to California with her no-good ass of a boyfriend when they stop at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma so she can use the restroom. When she heads back out to the car she discovers he has left without her, leaving her stranded with only the clothes on her back. Her marvelous journey begins at that moment. I must have cried a couple times during this book – it was that moving. Hats off to author, Billie Letts, for her grasp of the human heart, the important things in life, the strengths within us all and being able to convey it so well through her writing.
I purchased this book at my local video store and was totally hooked after reading the first page. This was a wonderful story about life. When life deals you lemons, Novalee makes lemonade. I highly recommend this book. Also, I highly recommend that you have enough time to sit down to read it cover to cover because you won't be able to put it down.
