After several lukewarm releases, Van is back on track big time. Gone now are his references to spirits and religion. To replace them are R&B numbers writen as only Van can do it. Whinin Boy Moan sounds like an old blues standard. Evening In June, has simple rhymes like the songs of the fifties, moon in June and such. The Meaning of Loneliness is one of his best songs in years for those who like the man to sing sad and lonely. As always excellant musicians and plenty of wonderful horn solos. Van's voice is getting better with age, it's deeper and fuller and he seems to really have a lot of fun now with his famous phrasing. This is a must for fans of Van and people who just love a great voice with songs with arrangements that are unique in the music business.
