Dr. Norman Spencer(Harrison Ford) is a wonderful husband and successful professor. His beautiful wife Claire(Michelle Pfieffer) has just sent her oldest and only daughter off to college. The house is now empty and Claire starts hearing strange things in the house...or maybe they're not so strange. She is being haunted by the spirit of a missing college student. She soons discovers that her husband is not who she thought he was.
This movie has plenty of startling scenes that will keep your heart racing.
I must say that this is one of my favorites. The writing and direction is witty and smart, and even sexy (especially if you're into an older, Michelle Pfifer type). The ending is the best part, and unexpected, and makes this a movie you can watch more than once and enjoy it.
Gore isn't needed to make this scary movie a thrilling watch. Good pick.
This is a good, scary movie. The acting is excellent and it is a real spine tingler. Too scary for little kids so not really a whole family show. But okay for teenager and adults.
A great movie. Harrison Ford did a great job (as usual) with his acting. One of the best movies of his. (Did he ever really make a bad movie)? A great addition to my movie library.
Average movie, not too predictable and some jumpy parts. It helped to have Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer as the main characters. Some twists, but, I figured it out a little earlier than I would have liked.
This DVD arrived in original case, no scratches, promptly and in excellent condition. Had seen What Lies Beneath" on TV and wanted to see it commercial-free and uncensored, so I looked for it under Michelle Pfeiffer movies and found it on website at a ressonable price. When DVDs are sold in this way, seems more useful and time-saving for both buyer as well as seller.
I like Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer and they didn't disappoint in this thriller of a movie. There were lots of great scary moments straight out of a Hitchcock movie and that's just the problem with the movie. Some of the moments seemed very familiar. Yes they were scary, but very familiar to any Hitchcock fan The movie lacked some of the originality you always hope for in a thriller. The ending, though, was a surprise and there were definitely scary moments in this movie. Its worth the watch and even more than once. I say, grab the popcorn, sit back, turn out the lights, and enjoy.
I first saw What Lies Beneath, a terrific thriller directed by Robert Zemeckis, on TV before buying it on ebay 6 months later. The truth is that I couldn't wait any longer to see it again!! This is one of my favorite thrillers! Not only do Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer do a spectacular performance as a married couple in Vermont who discover that a ghost is present in their house, but the actual storyline has so much depth, that you may find yourself wanting more! There are so many twists and turns, the plot is so original and intense that it will capture your attention throughout the entire 130 minutes of this haunting film.
I especially recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys the horror/thriller genre as the film has an eery feeling (along with a chilling musical score) that drifts through every scene. The horror element is very faint, which in a way makes the movie even scarier. The special effects, although there are few, are brilliantly done and placed in pivotal spots to reel you in closer to the truth of what is really going on in this mystery house.
Ultimately, What Lies Beneath is a great addition to any DVD collection because it provides action and causes you to think. Don't loose the opportunity to see a fantastic film and truly learn What Lies Beneath.

Pros: great movie
Cons: moved a little slow in the beginning
Last night was a rather easy night compared to some nights of endless studying. A good friend of mine treated me to a movie and dinner. I rather suspect he was just bored and didn t want to go by himself. As usual I did the honors of picking the movie and the place to dine. I had been told that I had to see the movie WHAT LIES BENEATH by the wonderful MR DAVE aka TEYKAERTS. He rather insisted that it be next on my list on my next movie outing. So thus was the movie of choice. Granted I had seen the trailor for the movie and was quite intrigued by the plot. Until now I had been so busy with...

Pros: The bathtub scene! Great atmosphere, truly scary at times.
Cons: Quite boring otherwise.
The first time I watched What Lies Beneath was in broad daylight, and it scared me pretty good. It is a movie that, without all of its flashy, sound-based scares, is a real borefest. Which means it makes a great movie to watch as part of a multitasking session, which means I've watched it a lot that way, which means I'm extremely familiar with it, which means I know it like a good friend, which means I'm probably a little biased to even give it as much credit as I do. Harrison Ford (as Dr. Norman Spencer) and Michelle Pfeiffer (as his wife Claire) are completely believable as a middle-aged...

I See Boring People: What Lies Beneath

Pros: Michelle Pfeiffer
Cons: Everything Else
Just when I think Harrison Ford has moved on from his long stint at mediocrity and established some credibility with a few decent performances I come across something like this turkey. I refer to What Lies Beneath - a tepid, boring, predictable, slow-moving accumulation of Alfred Hitchcock-influenced dreck punctuated by a host of horror/suspense clich s for good measure. I enjoyed Harrison Ford in K19: The Widowmaker and Hollywood Homicide after seeing how far he had slipped in the intervening years since Indiana Jones so I was prepared to be pleasantly surprised by some of his later works....

Pros: This movie is full of suspense
Cons: Slow at the beginning.
We decided to rent a movie yesterday and ended up getting about 4 of them. Anyway I have been wanting to see WHAT LIES BENEATH with Michelle Pheiffer and Harrison Ford. This movie should have been rated an R instead of PG-13 but on to the good stuff. Ford, is the Dr. Norman Spencer who is a genetic researcher. He is always working at home on the computer. He has a lot of experience at the local college. His wife is played by Pheiffer, her name is Claire. Claire is a former musician. She met her husband after playing one night and miraculously 3 months later they were married. Claire (Pheiffer.
