2 new races, new units for old races, new maps and most important great campaign - you can conquer 25 regions on planet kronos as a brave space marines and imperial guard, savage orcs, stealthy eldar, hi-tech tau empire and cold-hearted necrons and you dont need original W40k dawn of war or winter assualt! campaign divides in 2 phases- tactical - you can move your leader, buying extra garrison in conquered regions.every region provides different bonuses -f.e. you can move twice per turn or attack anywhere on map, or special units.your leader wargear improve with number of kills, conquered regions, defensive victories. really excellent and long expansion
I've played Dawn of War, even though there hasn't been a good game for Warhammer 40k enthusiasts for the PC since Spacehulk. IT was great, Warcraft/Starcraft for the 40k Universe. Winter Assault, a neat expansion for Dawn of War that included an added race (Imperial Gaurd) and extras for the 4 existing Races. Nice, great expansion.
Now we have the long awaited Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. IT IS GREAT!! You pick a race, one of 7 including Tau! and Necrons! added to the list of Eldar, Space Marines, Imperial Gaurd, Chaos and Orks. Once you've chosen your Army, you begin a Campaign to conquer the planet Kronus. You earn bonuses and wargear as you conquer territories. Bonuses are awarded for territories, such as Extra turns, cheaper reource costs, mobilty, and attacking extras. Wargear is earned one piece at a time so you can Customize the Wargear you want from the list until you've created the ULTIMATE COMMANDER for your armies. The turns based campaign map and reinforcement menu are a breeze. And the transition to RTS Mode is superb, including a Recon option and Retinue purchase menu. This game is great if you can't get to the Hobby Center as often as you like or can't find a good gaming group in your area. I LOVED IT!! I'M ON MY 4TH CAMPAIGN!!
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War-Dark Crusade is a good follow up to the original Dawn of War and Dawn of War-Winter Assault. It's campaign mode differs, as there is no story in it except at the beginning and end of the game. the game lets you make turn based moves and upgrades on a board game style world view, sort of like Risk, except there's only one piece to move. Your objective no matter what race you play as is to conquer the world. I personally like the Warhammer 40,000 storyline in the previous games, but the open-ended style of this one is an acceptable change. The game play can use some improvements. It's the exact same as the other games except now you have two more races. I would love to see the small details and advanced AI in it as in THQ's other great series Company of Heroes. Overall: If you already have Dawn of War and Dawn of War-Winter Assault then this is a must have so you can play with all 7 races. If not, buy the Platinum Edition of Warhammer 40,000 and get all of them. I wouldn't buy Dawn of War: Dark Crusade as a stand-alone.
This is one of the best RTS games I have ever played. Not only does it offer 7 playable races to defeat your enemies with, but it offers an indepth and actually strategic Single-Player Campaign. You are in charge of one of the seven races bent on ruling the planet Kronos. This part of the game feels more like RISK than anything else however it has a neat twist. As you move to different Territories you wish to control it will take you to the battlefield to control units and lead an army to destroy the opposition. As you will take strategic territories you can boost your leaders stats and modify your units. Take the time to play this game, it's force to be reckoned with.
Kick Ass game, if you played the first Dawn of War ans then Winter Assault, then you're going to like this one. If you don't have the codes for the first two, you won't be able to use this Dark Crusade at it's full, make sure to get those product codes, it will be much better, you'll be able to use all the races. Try it, you won't regret it. It's a real strategy game, not like others like Supreme Commander that has unlimited units and no strategy is required to play it. This one is not a waste of money or time. Go for it!!!!!!!
Awesome expansion to an already great game: DoW. You can play all factions in this amazing expansion pack. Action never ends on this game! Since you can play with each faction, you have tons of hours on gameplay.
This is Dawn of War's second expansion pack (after Winter Assault), and it brings a wealth of gameplay to the franchise. Not only does it introduce two new playable races - the Communistic Tau and the nihilistic Necrons - but the pack is playable as a stand-alone, without the original game!
This pack also introduces a strategic element of gameplay, using a map of the planet to allow your army to maneuver and capture different provinces. Each gives differing amounts of resources as well as special abilities and units to use in battle. The single-player campaign is played with all 7 available races, each trying to dominate the planet. Cutscenes (rendered in the game engine) tell the story throughout the campaign, which even involves Imperial forces fighting each other.
Overall this expansion offers far more value than the previous one, and builds anticipation for what might come next. The game has vast amounts of material to draw from for further expansion, so expect more to come!
The game is a real challenge as far as real time strategy games are concerned. If a challenge is what you are looking for, good graphics and an all around good game. You must buy this game.
