I am a huge fan of disaster orientated movie and this one is no exception. The movie captivated me from beginning to end with nonstop action, spectacular effects and dazzling imagery. Of late Tom Cruise has made a spectacle of himself and in my mind has damaged my appreciation of him from his awesome early movies such as Risky Business and the like. Many movies of his in the last several years have been horrible such as Eyes Wide Shut and Vanilla Sky. This one however was a perfect 10. It is perhaps a great pair to Independence Day as this one was based on the common people story rather than being based with military side of things. Thanks for reading!

If you are looking online to buy this movie I will assume you already know the story plot of this movie. So I wont go into a long description and waste your time.
My husband and I watched this today. I really enjoyed the movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat.It was action packed and fast paced. There weren't many slow points during this movie. And even thought it is an alien sci-fi it did make you think about human behavior and the realm of possibilities out there...
I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys this genre. It is however a bit much for some children. I am pretty liberal with what I let my kids see... But some of the scene were pretty high tension and bloody. The acting was pretty good. Lots of well acted intense emotional scenes.
My only regret is that I didn't watch it in the theater to get the full effect.
I hope this opinion helped you out. I wanted to put an opinion out instead of a recap of the film which anyone can fine on amazon or in the description.

I was impressed by the special effects that were used in this movie. They felt very real to me and not computer generated. I thought that the computer guys out did themselves and produced an excellent movie. I was also impressed on the new take of the old movie. They more than came up with a new version of an old movie, it actually stands alone. Thus becoming a totally new story not just a dressed up redone old story, that gets told over and over. I am very happy to own my own copy of this movie so that I can enjoy it over and over. I must mention the one problem I had with the movie. The kids were real brats and needed a good old fashion butt spanking.

A Steven Spielberg film, rated PG-13 and running time is 1 hour 57 minutes. This science fiction adventure movie is also full of horror as Earth is invaded by aliens and taken totally by surprise. An army of Tripods is destroying everything in their path. Tom Cruise plays the part of an American Father fleeing with his children played by Dakota Fanning and Tim Robbins. Unbelievable action packed movie, worth watching more than once! Special Features include Designing the Enemy and Tripods & Aliens.

I loved the original War of the Worlds made in the 50's, but this modern version is by far one of the scariest movies I have seen. Usually, it's hard to successfully remake a classic, but they have done it this time! My favorite part was when Tom Cruise was trying to shield his daughter from seeing the mahem going on around them - a real psychological thriller. The little girl is a wonderful actress. The sound effects were great also.

War of the WorldsThis was an interesting move and well made. The only thing that I was a little confused with is that it was extremely far off the story of war of the worlds that I was familiar with. I also felt that the ending of move was a little of a let down because it was a very action filled up till that point but ending did tie everything together well.

I love science fiction movies and have seen this move on TV a lot of times and I just loved it. And could not pass this one up. I love the fast action of everyone trying to run and hide and then the people who steped up to help when no one else would.

Ah anyway, I'd like my money back please. What a stinker! Spielberg blew it with this one by once again making the meat and potatoes of the film take a back seat to some sort of dysfunctional family crisis resolution. If Cruise had been the only main character, if his character had been more of a hero-type, if they'd thrown out the whole family bit, this would've been a lot better. But they didn't.

I liked the movie but comparing it with the Gene Barry one, it doesn't stand up to the good old days. They put some new twists and turns in the Tom Cruse movie which made it interesting but if I was to compare the two, I'd have to give Gene Barry the A and Tom Cruse the B. Sorry Tom.

Too many disjointed scenes. Spent half the time figuring out connections. Some characters didn't even belong in the story. No comparison to the 1950's original. Graphics only fair. Left to your imagination what was going on over the hill during the Martian-Army showdown. Pitiful. How can Cruise justify being paid? Thought Spielberg would save the story, but, alas he doesn't.

This movie is an adaptation of the old War of theWorlds.
It is set in modern times.
The movie is really held together by Steven Speilburgs terrific special effects and great photography.
Rather than being like the origional; this is more a post 911 movie .

As a senior citized who saw H.G. Well's movie when it first scame out, this one kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole movie. Fantastic effects, thriller all the way. I was knock of my seat. This is the best movie I have seen in sixty some years. And I've seen a lot. If you love si fi, and a thrill a minute, you'll love this one. Check it our before you decide that it's junk. Most the younger generation is spoiled when it comes to movies today and don't have much of an imagination. This move is GREAT!!!!!

Horrible acting in this.....save your money as it doesn't even qualify as a rental! Tom Cruise walks around in a fog / daze, too much time spent on slow scenes (i.e., stuck in the basement of the house), etc. I think the only reason this dis as well as it did at the box office was due to Cruise's infamous jump on the couch scene on Oprah.

We enjoy action movies. The seller took very good care of it. It was an excellent buy. We bought it cause we wanted it. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want it. It's a really good movie.
