Is a nice phone, but just wasn't what I was looking for. I trust Uniden and recently ordered a new Uniden phone. Still a nice working phone just not for me.
I bought this system about a year ago and overall have been happy with it. This system has lots of useful features. It has a digital answering system. The color display of the handset is very bright and appealing to look at (the handset itself is pretty). The calendar display (one of several wall options) is very useful and the reminder function in the calendar can be used as an alarm system (the reminder can be set to daily, weekly, monthly or yearly). The hand-free speaker (both base and handsets) is loud and clear and you can also use a standard 2.5mm headset (not inclused, but I got a couple of them from a $1 store and they work just fine). The handsets can be used as walkie-talkie or intercom. If I want to ask my wife something while she is reading in bed upstairs and I'm in the study downstairs, I only need to pick up the handset on the desk and connect to the handset on the nightstand by the bed without having to yell to the hall or walk to the stairs. Such communication won't block incoming calls. One negative effect on me is that I often get called by my wife from the back yard to bring something to her (she's learnt to clip a handset to her belt when she goes to work outside the house). Otherwise she would come to the house to get them and I wouldn't be bothered. You can install a backup battery (same type of battery as used in handsets) in the base and the system will still work during power outage. The phone book can store 100 entries and upto 4 numbers for each entry. It has all the features of a cell phone, such as redialing (up to last 20 numbers called), saving called numbers or numbers of incoming calls (need call id service), speed dialing.
Finally something I don't like. You can only enter up to 20 digits (including pauses) into a number slot. I find it's really a nearsighted design. Now people often use a digital phone card to make long distance calls, especially international calls. To make such a call, you need to call a local number or a 800 number, enter access code, a country code, area code and the number. This can easily exceed 20 digits. I wish they could make a update in the software to increase the limit (I think you usually don't need four number slots for each entry).
I bought the base & 3 handsets. Sound and coverage is very good, even though our's is a long five level ranch house & we have aluminum wiring. Even near the microwave I'm getting clear reception. I loaded pictures in my phonebook & enjoy seeing the faces display as the phone rings. The screen is crystal clear! The phones were fairly easy to set up. I did read the manual & needed to refer back to it to find what I was looking for in the software, which after the initial install is not wizzard driven. When setting up the phones, you can save a main profile & then can customize individual handsets from there - after all, there are several numbers my daughter needs that I would rather not have on my handset. I haven't figured out if you can store from caller ID to phone book yet. Also, unlike my other Uniden, I can't press the star key to get the "1" for long distance calls. The "1" won't save in the phonebook for my long distance numbers, so I'll be looking for this feature soon. There must be a way. Only a couple of ring tones actually sound like the song they're supposed to sound like, but when I hear Home Sweet Home, I know it's my Mother In Law. Any guesses as to whether I run to or from the phone?
