My Opinion: 2007 PS3 [exclusive] Game of the Year
Review created: 11/18/07

I finished the game tonight on crushing and have concluded if you own a PS3, buy this game!!!!

While this game may arguably be one of the best games out on the PS3; when it comes to the PS3's first party line up this is probably the best PS3-exclusive out to date (even above Resistance Fall of Man...though Resistance is the better bang for your dollar if your PS3 has internet connection for multiplayer). So why is Naughty Dog's (the developer of this game and Jax & Daxter /Crash Bandicoot series) game so great?

The Pros:

1. The story is very original and feels very cinematic (many cut-scenes). If you've seen the movie National Treasure, it has similar tie ins to history to make the setting; which is off the South American coast in jungles, looking for the famed 'El Dorodo'(which in this game is a 500 pound golden statue).

2. Plot turns & twists. The game's story pivots around you (Drake) Sully, an old man who enjoys a cigar and local barflies, and Elena, a female British reporter who knows how to shoot film as well as a gun. The plot will involve you rescuing each of these members variously, or fighting alongside them. I will not offer spoilers, but the biggest twist occurs around chapter 18.

3. Graphics and gameplay. Apparently, Naughty Dog took four years to make this game; from the moment you start this is evident in the graphics alone; for PS3 owners this is a testament of the PS3's power (though this game only utilizes a third of the PS3's potential). The game does run at a smooth 30 FPS with some screen tearing issues present though nothing that interferes with gameplay. As per gameplay; this is a 3rd person shooter with some vehicle action (Jeep/Jetski). When you are on the Jetski; take a look at the water reacts...probably the best I've ever seen in any video game; not to forget how when Drake enters water whatever body part that gets soaked will dry off with time. As per shooting; there is maybe 20 or so weapons with melee combat optional with some of the best AI (artificial intelligence) and cover system I've ever played with. For instance on the hardest mode the AI will never hide behind cover and continue to pop out on the same side...they will change positions, pop out on different sides or advance on you.

4. Don't have an internet conection for your PS3? This game is perfect for those times when you can't play Warhawk.

The Cons:

Teen Rating: Parents be advised that the sh** word (frequently) and ah-le (once) word is used. Sexual jokes are made too. Personally I don't care about this, but concerned parents may be.

Multiplayer: None. Apparently, there will be a trophy for Uncharted when Playstation Home releases the trophy room.

Price & Re-playability: This is an excellent game, but if you're stretched for money, don't buy the game at 60 dollars, because with out multiplayer; after you beat the game which is approximately 8-12 hours (it took me 8 on normal and 10 on Crushing) you may pick up the game again to get all of the hidden treasures or awards...but if you're only interested in the story just rent it or wait until it comes discounted on ebay and half.com.

Overall: 9.4 I had fun playing this game...in no instance did I want to break my controller out of frustration like I did playing Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3). This is a great game to show off to Xbox owners, family and friends.

  Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

"Most fun I've had since Mega Man 2"
Hello Gaming Public and welcome to my first review for the PS3. Indeed my first work on gamefaqs.com period. I hope it is helpful if you are thinking of purchasing the game in question.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. = Wow
Thats all I can really say. But even such a great game is not without its flaws.

Graphics: Graphically this game is the top of the heap as far as the PS3 power house... simply the best presentation to date on the PS3. Everything in the game from the seamless cut scenes to the animations of Drake stumbling through the jungle are wonderful. I can count on one hand how many glitches I found and even the camera work, (which is usually a problem even now a days in these types of games), was executed perfectly.

Sound: Not wanting to leave anything short the folks at Naughty Dog put just as much effort into the sound as they did the visuals for the game. The use of the odd instruments in the musical score was wonderful and really set the mood for each locale that you visit. Even the sound of ricocheting bullets as they zing past your head is in there. And the trash talking from the baddies as they taunt you during a fight? Too fun. The dialog is very well written and with great performances from the actors it really drives the story. One word of caution though: The dialog and cut scenes and the game itself was developed to give you the closest thing to an interactive movie experience that the programmers could give you. The dialog is no exception. Expect to hear mild language at different points and while its inclusion in the game did not bother me at all nor does it distract you from the over all enjoyment of the game, there are some of us who my be offended so be warned. All in all... when all elements are considered, the sound is top notch and perfectly compliments the masterful work on the visuals.

Controls / Playability: The PS3 controller is put to good use in Uncharted: Drakes fortune. The button configuration is easy to grasp and the controls are smooth as silk. Gone are the days of wonky controls for those of us who enjoy robbing graves and exploring caves. The SIXAXIS control portion of the game is well done although I did find it rather limited. Perhaps though some would think that less is more in this respect. All in all the control is kept relatively simple and easy to grasp for the casual gamer to come along and pick up in a short time.

Replay Value: Uncharted is not a long game by any means but it is very involved. From exploring every nook and cranny of lush environments looking for treasure, to trying not to get your head ventilated by a bullet from your adversaries you will be on your toes. The replay value of this great title comes from the fact that as you work your way through the story line you have different side objectives. The is a multitude of treasures to find that are hidden throughout the game as well as achievements to accomplish such as "100 head shot kills" or "30 Kills with a Brutal combo". Each of these tasks net you a certain number of points and as you earn points you unlock various things such as behind the scenes film clips, concept art or even cheats.

Bottom Line: Uncharted is a great game with a challenging adventure, engaging story, great visuals, and even greater sounds. A possibility of 4 difficulties and a plethora of hidden things to find and plenty of goodies to unlock, it will keep you coming back over and over.

Shows off what a PS3 is capable of
Review created: 07/19/08(updated 07/19/08)

This was one of the games I had to have when I saw it first announced, and saw the first preview pictures. The graphics are stunning .If this game looks like this now,how are the futures games on PS3 going to look like when developers get the real hang of the PS3's power. Now,the graphics are unbelievable, but how is the gameplay.I love the gameplay on this game. When the action gets going, you don't know when it is going to stop. And I love how the game will throw a few surprises at you.The storyline is pretty good also. This game should keep you interested in playing it.Fabulous graphics, great gameplay, good storyline, this game is highly recommended for PS3 owners who like games such as Tomb Raider etc.But don't think that this game is just a Tomb Raider knockoff. It's not.Buy it.Maybe you can get lucky and get it for a good price from a decent seller on eBay like I did.You won't be disappointed.

I have played and beaten this game and have to say that it is one of my favorites. This game really shows off what the PS3 can do. Excellent graphics, animations, cut-scenes,voice acting,controls...everything about it is truly next-gen. It is somewhat of a combination of Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones. No two levels or missions on this game feel the same.I will definitely be playing through this title again as there are so many fun and memorable moments.I highly recommend this game to all action/adventure,shooting,platforming gamers.

Sound: 9/10

I loved this game! So much so that the day after I finished it, I started playing it again on the hardest difficulty. Greatness!
The a graphics are stunning, the sounds are engrossing (especially if you have a surround sound system), and the acting is top notch - REAL actors.
It's the closest thing to playing an adventure movie that I've ever experienced. Fun fun fun!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster

same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you.
After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-14 people

  Great Adventure Game

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is my favorite PS3 game. The graphics are very detailed and the colors are vibrant and vivid. Drake's Fortune has the best graphics to date for any PS3 game.

The gameplay is much like any adventure game (e.g. Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones, etc.). It is a bit weird to get used to in the beginning, but then it becomes natural and enjoyable. The game is definitely worth the money!

A gem of a game in Uncharted

This was a really enjoyable and just a fun game to play. From the story line that hooked you in to the cast of characters that added a special flare. It had an Indy and a romancing the stone kind of feel. The game play was good, the camera movement was good with a few minor glitches. If your looking for a fun adventure look no further.

  Beautiful looking game.
Review created: 06/01/08
by:

I decided to buy this after reading several reviews praising the graphics. This is an absolutely beautiful looking game. It's a nice action/adventure game with a nice mix of shooting/running/jumping/puzzle solving. None of the puzzles are too hard, and if you take too long the game will offer you a hint of what you're supposed to do next. The game moves along nicely between firefights and climbing/scaling walls to get to the next area. Overall the game is a little easy (for me). The shooting/aiming system leaves something to be desired, but it works. One shot kills are not easy, if at all possible in this game most of the time. It often takes 5-7 shots to kill an enemy, which is kinda lame. However this is not a FPS game so I should have expected that. But the real reason I got this game was because of the graphics and they do not disappoint. Beautifully rendered jungles and waterfalls bring this game to life. Definitely the best looking game I have seen on the PS3 so far. That being said, I can look past the quirky aiming system and movement controls. This game delivered on what I expected. A great looking game thats fun to play without being too hard. I'm only 2 days into playing it so who knows how it'll turn out? But I'm satisfied with my purchase so far.

If I had to list my cons for this game it would be: Weak aiming system, Controls are a little slack sometimes, A few areas seem impossible while the rest of the game is a breeze so it's a little unbalanced at times. I would not buy/recommend this game brand new for $60, but if you can find it used for under $40 then pick it up.

Uncharted is a awesome treasure hunting game that takes place in the 21 century
it mostly reminded me of a Indiana Jones movie anyway the main character Nathan Drake is a treasure hunter that has been looking for El Dorado for his entire life but when he finds a diary in the coffin of sir francis drake he thinks it is his big brake but very soon things go from bad to worse and a dark story envolving Nazis, Mercinaries, and a terrible curse unravels.

Also remember things aren't always what they seem.

Incredible values and plenty of thrilling moments.
Review created: 05/19/08
by:

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is not a game about new ideas. The gameplay can and has been summed up as "Tomb Raider meets Gears of War," and the story plays almost like an unfilmed National Treasure script, which is another way of saying that the Indiana Jones influence on the story is palpable. Keep in mind that "derivative" isn't the same as "bad." Developer Naughty Dog has assembled its borrowed parts with great proficiency to create an action adventure game with momentum, one that is filled with exciting set pieces, a real cinematic scope, and some of the most gorgeous visuals you'll see in a game.

That Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a game that trades in archetypes is apparent throughout the story. You'll play as Nathan Drake, an independent adventurer with a wry sense of humor who claims to be a descendent of Sir Francis Drake. That fact figures prominently in the narrative as you go hunting for an ancient relic believed to be hidden somewhere on an uncharted tropical island. The supporting cast includes your friend Sully, who's a cigar-chomping, affable cad with a taste for trouble, and Elena, a confident TV reporter who splits her time between being your sidekick and your damsel in distress. There are villains as well, including Nathan's dry British counterpart as well as a belligerent pirate captain, though you'll likely find their minions far more threatening. The game attempts to add some twists and turns to the plot, but they never really pan out. Nevertheless, the story generally moves with efficiency, as well as some occasionally snappy dialog.

Even if what's happening during the in-engine cutscenes isn't significant, it always looks great. Much of the game takes place in dense jungle environments and a variety of ancient ruins, which the game renders with a nearly photorealistic level of detail. Plants sway, water trickles, and the textures really look like they've got texture. There are a few moments when the game goes outside its wheelhouse with some murky industrial environments that look flat and drab by comparison, but these sequences are rare.

Nathan himself isn't a particularly flashy-looking character in his dirty gray shirt and jeans, but the subtlety of his animation conveys more about him than any outfit would. He'll do a stumbled half-step when traversing uneven terrain, and you'll see him wince when a bullet gets too close to comfort during a firefight. Likewise, his arms will flail spastically during a big jump, and afterward he'll dangle precariously by one hand on the edge he was aiming for. When he gets into a fistfight, half the time it's surprising he makes it out alive. Even when he's performing seemingly impossible acrobatic tasks with ease, the quality of the animation gives him a real sense of fallibility. There's also some terrific facial animation, of which you'll see plenty during cutscenes, though you'll catch glimpses of it during gameplay as well. When a grenade lands near Nathan's feet, you can see the fear in his eyes. The technical feats required to produce what you see on the screen in Uncharted boggle the mind, and the end results make it hard to look away. Overall, Drake's Fortune is my favorite Playstation 3 game of all time.
