Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? (2008, DVD)

Tyler Perry is truly a brilliant director. This play is about the trials of marriage, and what happens to one family when a sexy young temptress arrives on the scene.

This dvd came asap and it was in great condition. the seller sent the item through the mail before my payment even cleared trusting his buyers. The seller has great prices and always send top quality merchandise.

I have not viewed the movie yet, but the previews gave it hype. In the past, I have enjoyed all of Tyler Perry's plays and movies. I am sure that I will enjoy this movie as well.

I saw Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married in the movies October 2007. I loved the movie so much that I had to own it on DVD. Tyler Perry has a way of making a movie seem more than just a movie, it's almost like watching your life or re-living an experience from a friends life. When watching his movies, I always wish that the movie would not end. The storylines are well thought out, the feelings and emotions are real, and the end is not "storybook". I feel that his movies although developed and portrayed by African-Americans characters are relatable to a wide spectrum of nationalities, the storyline includes experiences that we can all relate to. Personally, I love the casting. The actors completely envelop the rolls and make you feel invited. The movie is about a group of couples that travel on vacation togethor each year. We learn of their relationship problems and successes and get a view of this from the female and male perspective. There is laughter, action, disgust, crying, and action. Absolutely EXCELLENT movie!

My husband and I enjoyed this film very much and we both agreed that Perry done a great job with this film. Though he continues to put out films with an obvious "stagey" feel to them that don't work as well as they should even though they do work better than one would expect. In his second feature film without the Madea character, Perry again brings one of his stage plays to the big screen with "Why Did I Get Married," a film that works because of the heart and soul of the cast even when it feels like Perry's over-the-top preachiness is about to cave everything in. The film centers around four couples who gather each year at a Rocky Mountain retreat for your basic "save our marriage" therapeutic weekend. Being a Perry production, the weekend will be filled with lots of laughs, lots of tears, lots of revelations, a few heartbreaks and a solid Christian center that without the preachiness that often accompanies such a central core.

Janet Jackson leads the cast as the relationship expert who guides the weekend supported by her husband (Malik Yoba). There's a power couple (Tyler Perry and Sharon Leal), a drinkin'/fightin' couple (Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith), and an obviously abusive couple (Jill Scott and Richard T. Jones). Before the weekend is over, in typical Perry fashion, secrets will be revealed and lives will be changed for the good and the bad. The ensemble cast is solid throughout, most notably a well-padded Jill Scott as a gentle, sweet woman trying to deal with a cheating hubby, and Tasha Smith, who's blessed with the film's best lines and she nails every one of them.

While it's certainly easy to knock Perry's inability to produce anything approaching subtlety, it seems almost pointless to do so. Perhaps because of his lack of subtlety, Perry's films inevitably say things that most of today's filmmakers don't have the balls to say and it's rather refreshing to have a filmmaker actively speak out on issues. The scenes between Jill Scott and Richard T. Jones, for example, are almost achingly painful in their honesty and brought vividly to mind the utter shock of Blair Underwood's domestic abuse scenes in "Madea's Family Reunion."

Other solid performances are turned in by Janet Jackson and Perry himself, who proves he needn't be dressed in drag to be an accomplished actor. Toyomichi Kurita's cinematography is solid given the film's inherent staged feeling and that all of Perry's films continue to be modestly budgeted productions. Aaron Zigman's original music complements the scenes nicely, and, while the production design doesn't quite tear us away from the staged feeling, it nonetheless fits the proceedings well.

Tyler Perry doesn't really need film critics. While his first turn away from Madea, "Daddy's Little Girls," was a box-office disappointment, Perry's modestly budgeted films continue to successfully reach Perry's targeted urban markets and, with a typical box-office in the $50 million range, Perry's future as a filmmaker continues to be on solid ground.

I bought this movie because I had it and let somone else use it. I recommend that you purchase items from this person. The quality was great.

I loved the movie on the big screen and wanted my own DVD. The DVD came in great condition and in a a timely manner.

BEST MOVIE EVER. I RECIEVED IT VERY QUICKLY THAT I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO EVERYONE TO WATCH., AS I WOULD EVERY TYLER PERRY MOVIE.

The movie is about 4 couples go away for the weekend and they have different experiences with each other. One couple the husband bring his single girlfriend to the retreat and the wife didn't know that they were sleeping with each other.

A great comedy about being married with the give and takes of it all. Tyler Perry does it again. Bravo

I loved this movie because it was real emotion, real life drama, that happenes everyday with all relationships. I have been cheated on and I was able to relate to each and every character with each individual emotions. I loved IT!! Love all of Tyler Perry's movies and plays, because he is real, and he brings that to the table with every movie and every play! I do not believe in fairytales anymore, the happy ending stuff, almost never happens and that is what I like most, Honesty!

DVD is in Excellent condition. Fast delivery. It is easy for me to purchase my DVD on E-Bay. I can find what I want without leaving the House.

THIS MOVIE IS FUNNY AS HELL GREAT COMEDY JUST SO FUNNY!!!! VERY ENJOYABLE THE HUMOR WAS RIGHT ON AND JUST A GREAT MOVIE IN GENERAL..

I absolutely love Tyler's plays and movies. Although I do miss Madea. This one wasn't meant to funny like most of them are. This a great eye opener for those of us who are married, whether it be 1 day or 60 yrs. If shows us that we have to take time out of our busy schedules this day and age to rekindle and remember what attracted us to our spouse to start with. It also teaches us to forgive and that if you love someone enough, you can overcome many obstacles that life gives us. It's hard this day and age to kind a decent movie without all the cursing/sexual stuff. Tyler knows his stuff and I am so glad that he finds a way to bring God into all of his shows/plays. Thank you once again Mr. Perry for another great movie.

This movie gave me a very good depiction of how deceptive and ugly people can be. Some people are like this whether they are married or not. The only thing I disliked about this movie is that everyone was bit too successful.

All I can say is: If you can get a hold of any Tyler Perry's plays or movies, GET THEM! His show "House of payne", I never miss it.

Whether a fan of Tyler Perry's work or not, this is an enjoyable movie. Unlike some of the other plays converted to movie, "Why Did I Get Married" to me was developed a lot better for the big screen.

Featuring a nice blend of actor's, the chemistry between the ensemble cast is present for a wholesome movie about the struggle of married couples. Many of the issues in the film the average couple may not be able to relate to, but the struggle to overcome these issues and the pain experienced we all should be able to relate to.

I gave this movie a 4 for consistent humor, good script, good acting and the ability to hold my attention from beginning to end.

This was his best movie! My husband refuses to watch any of his movies and he actually watch this in it's entirety! I love the way each couple had problems, but in the end worked it out.

This has got to be one of the best movies I have ever seen! I laughed, and even though I am a man, I'm not ashamed to say I cried too! Incredible cast, incredible acting, great well told story with a powerful message! Tyler Perry just seems to get better and better and better! Janet Jackson delivered a superb performance. Jill Scott was magnificent in an Oscar worthy performance. Malik Yoba has never been better! Tasha Smith was absolute dynamite! Michael Jai White was nothing short of excellent. Richard T. Jones was absolutely brilliant. All of the cast delivered first rate performances! I am SO glad I made this purchase. I've been a huge fan of Tyler Perry ever since I became familiar with his work, and will be a huge fan forever. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this movie!

I loved this movie, especially when sheila popped mike in the head with the wine bottle, not that I believe in violence but he so deserved it. I know all the women who watched it wanted to do the same thing to him. Tyler Perry's best yet. He is such a good writer, I can't wait to see what he comes out with next.

I love this movie because the movie can give those who are married and those who are dating a example of what to do and what not to do. The characters are perfect.

What a brilliant and refreshing film which depicts some of life's issues whether married or unmarried. You can relate to the characters and see yourself, or friends and family in the actors. Angie and Marcus's relationship was incredible. All you need in your life is God and love.
