Twelve O'clock High! by Beirne Lay Jr., Sy Bartlett (1981)

As a WWII 8th Air Force Veteran who was fortunate enough to survive a combat Tour in a B-17G Bomber plane in 1944, I find the Novel By Beirne Lay, Jr., and Sy Bartlett (who were both actually in the 8th Air Force during WWII, Lay becoming the Commanding Officer of a B-24 Bomber Group) to be the most accurate portrait of actually events, followed by their screenplay for the 1949 Film starring Gregory Peck, and a subsequent 1964-1967 TV Series [78 One-Hour Episodes] ALL under the same title. I find the most exciting and rewarding aspect of making purchases thru e-Bay is to FIND THINGS I DID NOT KNOW EXISTED OR WERE EVEN AVAILABLE! A 1948 First Edition of the Novel with Dust Jacket is extremely rare at any price: apparently more valuable and sought after than many older books: I was thrilled to find this 1981 "Large Print" (English) edition which I had not known existed. Also, I was surprised to also find on e-Bay an original signed photograph of Robert Lansing, Star of the first 32 TV Episodes (he had passed away in 1994) and it was gratifying to have memorabilia of an actor who is so respected and convincing in his role as "Gen. Savage," the same role that Gregory Peck portrayed so well in the 1949 motion picture. It is a simple matter to go to the store to purchase a known object; it is quite another energizing thrill to make discoveries that enrich one's valued possessions and respect for achievement with personal regard. g.e.s.
