  Tumbleweed Connection Elton John CD
Review created: 04/07/08(updated 04/07/08)

This is a classic and a collectors item but I bought it because it is the best ever recorded by Elton John. I had the album years ago and wanted it replaced with a cd.

I went on the sellers feedback, but that is not always the case as this seller cashed my money order for several items that I purchased as christmas gifts and I never received any of them.

I bought this CD for a friend. I've been an EJ fan from the beginning and in my opinion, it's his best album.

This is the best album from Elton John. It contains the original "Country Comfort," which was later covered by Rod Stewart. It also contains a version of "Madman Across the Water" than you would normally hear. The whole album has an Old-West flare to it. It is great. I owned this back in the days of 8-Track tapes.

A Wonderful and Sadly Unappreciated Album

Pros:
Sweet, almost wistful country tinged rock

Cons:
Some filler on the flip side

In 1970, Elton John was coming off his first minor hit, Your Song from the self-titled album (not his first, which was Empty Sky , and which sank without a trace). It was occasionally tuneful if thin album and showed a good deal of promise. At the same time, he was garnering a reputation as an electric and outrageous live act. So, the question was, what was to be the follow-up? What was released is not what one would have expected from an English rocker: a reflective and respectful album about, of all things, the American South. This was Tumbleweed Connection , which when originally released..

Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection (SACD)

Pros:
Perfect Album.

Cons:
None

In 2004, Island Records released a group of Elton's earlier albums in the SACD format. I am always hungry for these types of releases and when they finally release titles by a great artist I am first in line. I luckily snagged up the five of them I needed, (I already owned Goodbye Yellow Brick Road on DVD-Audio) via the BMG music club. They were having this amazing sale of free shipping and buy one, pay half price for everything else. I think I paid somewhere around $45 for five SACD titles. You can't do much better than that. The last one I finally played was this title, Tumbleweed...

One of the jewels of Elton's crown

Pros:
Elton John at his very best

Cons:
It is one of the most underrated albums ever.

Whoever has come to know Elton John in the 80s and considers him to be a bland singer of throwaway songs filled with lots of synth crap should start listening to his early albums (note: even if his worst 80s albums there are still 2 or 3 songs in them that are actual gems). Before he became an artist better known for its eccentric stage costumes, savage behaviour and heterodox lifestyle, Elton John was a superb musician and singer who recorded some beautiful albums: "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Honky Chateau", "Madman Across the Water", "Captain Fantastic

  Best Forgotten Album Ever

Pros:
the best of Elton's early work

Cons:
one song is a clunker

Elton John is, besides the Rolling Stones, the biggest surviving elder statesman of rock and roll. Even giants like Paul McCartney have faded in the public eye (though, of course, their earlier work will survive for at least decades). Elton holds the record for the most years consistently in the "Top 10." I think he's up to 30 consecutive years (although I can't imagine what the hit from 1979 was!) Why is it, then, that some of his early, best work isn't well-known? Everyone knows Rocket Man. Most people know "Your Song," his signature 1970 ballad and first real hit. "Your Song" came from...
