  AUTOBOTS TRANSFORM

The film begins in the Middle East, and we find out quickly that one of our boys has a baby back home. That's never a good sign. Soon the base is attacked by a phantom helicopter that has the markings of an Air Force MH-53 Pave Low that was believed to have been shot down, and in the ensuing firefight the giant robot tries to break into the government's computers. Clearly, the alien threat is looking for something.

Back in suburbia, a teenager named Sam Witwicky is buying his first car to impress a girl way out of his league, and after an amusing scene with Bernie Mac he has in his possession a beat-down yellow Camaro with a hanging bee air freshener that says "Bee-Otch." The car just happens to drive itself and provide background music to impress said girl. You see, this boy had a grandfather who made an amazing discovery years ago, and one of his artifacts has some very important information on it: information that could turn the tide of a very old war between two sets of very large transforming robots.

When Sam is attacked by a menacing cop car by the name of Barricade and is saved by Bumblebee in his true form, he finds out that he's firmly in the middle of a brutal conflict that could destroy the planet. Bumblebee calls in the reinforcements, and we're introduced to the rest of the Autobots, including a gorgeously animated Optimus Prime who is again played by the incomparable Peter Cullen. If you have fond memories of the character, they won't be ruined here.

The movie switches between very vicious-looking battle scenes (watch for the showdown between Optimus Prime and Bone Crusher on the highway; it drew cheers from my audience) and some funny scenes with the human characters. The government stuff can be a little tiresome, and a menacing but apparently bumbling branch of the government called Sector 7 does very little except pad the running time. But the second you begin to get bored, there's another piece of fan service and a giant fight to pull you right back in.

The bar has been raised for special effects here: the Autobots and Decepticons feel heavy and absolutely real in every frame they're in. There are long, lingering shots of the models in full light, and I couldn't find a CGI character that pulled me out of the movie or made me think I was seeing something that wasn't actually there. This isn't only a special effects film though: it's safe to say the careers of Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel have been made by this movie, as they both provide exactly the film needs with expert, precise performances.

The scenes with the Autobots rolling down the highway in vehicle mode look great, and while the Decepticons don't have a lot of character development, StarScream does great in every scene he's in, including a breathtakingly-shot dogfight with a group of F-22 Raptors.

This is a must see if you're in the mood for a strong, loud summer movie. Fans of the Transformers and newcomers alike are going to have a lot of fun.

GO OUT AND BUY THIS MOVIE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

9.5/10

  Transformers The Movie?
Review created: 10/05/08

Wow! ! ! ! !
While I was waiting for this movie to hit theatres,I came up with a hundred screw ups that Bay had used to mutulate all my fond memories of this once great cartoon series.. But I set them aside and told myself that I had to go see it with a clear mind. After all its been 23years since I first laid eyes on the big bots.
They deserved a new aproach for the big screen! Besides how do you pull off giant transforming robots without looking cheesey???????
Just ask Bay! I sat in the movie theatre with a friend and found myself a kid again! I was blown away!
I could nick pick about Megs being a Jet or how they screwed up Spikes name. It was Spike(Not Sam) Maybe Spike sounded to dikeish.. lol
But its a movie! They updated the idea and did a great job!
(As long as they fix that one thing with Jaz)!!!!!!!!!
So don't let this movie get away!

amazing movie, but lacks in special features...
Review created: 09/05/08

I bought this DVD here on eBay because I was not able to find it in stores (i.e. Best Buy and Target). I LOVE this movie (I saw it about 3 times when it was out in theaters!) so I really wanted to get the 2 disc DVD with special features, however I am quite disappointed that the only special features on the second disc are all just interviews with the director, production and certain cast members. Occasionally they will play a deleted scene or two, but you have to sit through about half of the interviews until they play it. Despite not having the kind of special feauters I was hoping for, I still love the moive and am glad to have found it on eBay for a little less than what I would have paid in the stores.

  Relentlessly conventional entertainment
Review created: 05/22/08

The effects are certainly special, but if you're looking for smart plot, snappy dialogue and sharp character development, look elsewhere. There's nothing involving, suspenseful or memorable here, beyond all the transformational snap-crackle-pop. The family is especially unbelievable, which is a big disappointment for a Spielberg-produced film. His movies feature complex, credible family dynamics, which make us care what happens next. Two specific complaints: Why give these 'bots such a strong handle on slanguage, only to cast it aside in favor of clunky mechanical blather about bravery and courage? This was a golden opportunity for good dialogue...squandered. Also, what sense does it make, when you're being hunted by enormous killing machines, to decide to hide in a city? It certainly ups the potential for a high body count and devastation for devastation's sake, I guess, yet it only adds to the narrative incoherence. Ultimately, I could look beyond such details, if only I cared about these characters. This is summer popcorn, but it needed better writing.

  What An Awesome Movie
Review created: 05/06/08

This two disc version of Transformers includes special features plus a commentary by Michael Bay. If you like Transformers, you will love this movie. I bought this DVD because the regular one wasn't enough. I totally recommend this movie to anyone. And if you haven't watched it yet, go for it. It's awesome.

what i loved about the transformers movie was that it brought back memories of when i was younger and watched them , bringing peter cullen back was the best idea michael bay could have done, but i would have loved to have seen them old school, meaning the cabover truck as optimus prime's mode, but none the less an excellent movie, should have brought back Frank Welker as megatron, but hugo weaving did a great job as well

I was looking for this edition in particular and got it.

The seller was nice and accurate with the description. Overall the transaction was fine and the shipping was quick. The DVD came sealed and well packed, just as described. I enjoyed the movie and the box contents.

Everybody has become a harsh critic in these times but that is not my case. I got what I was looking for and I appreciate it.

  Transformers
Review created: 03/04/08

Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown. A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humor, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether he’s running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), or pining for his gorgeous classmate (Megan Fox). While some TRANSFORMERS purists may be dismayed by certain aspects of this bold big-screen adaptation (Bumblebee is a Camaro instead of a Volkswagen), the movie balances its spectacle with an admirable amount of substance, giving it an appeal far beyond pre-teen boys and their nostalgic Autobot-loving elders.

  Transformers DVD
Review created: 02/20/08
by:

The movies had a GREAT PLOT, excellent Hi-Tech special effects, produced with many "real" people developed stunts for greatly enhanced "feels-real" scenes and action that is 2nd to none ! I've watched this DVD at least 4-5 times and watched the 2nd bounss disk TWICE. I often see more details that I missed the previous viewing . Shia Labouf did an excellent job at outing his real-time spontaneaty into to it. He's becoming a real telentated actor woth each sucssessoive move he stars in. His coanching and mentoring my bes superb.

Lookg fordwat 2 a 2nd Transformers with all or most of the key cast.

  New Tansformers New Look
Review created: 02/19/08

This movie is way better than I thought it would be. Special effects and sound are awsome. Sure they look different, sure the human characters are not from the orginal series, but its still a great real-life adaptation of this classic toy gone 80's cartoon hit. The acting, story, and script are way better than expected. If you grew up watching transformers as a kid, or if you just like sci-fi action movies this is a great watch. And the bounus disc on the special edition is packed with lots of cool extra stuff. Not just some movie trailers and audio commentary, like some "special features" discs are.

My best friend loved the movie and his birthday was coming up. Rather than getting ripped off at Best Buy or Circuit City, I decided to look for the movie on e-bay. It was cheaper, convenient, and arrived just in time. Smooth sailing!

If you grew up with Transformers on TV and in your toy-box, you'll love this movie. Some things changed for asthetics. Optimus prime is no-longer a cab-over-engine Peterbilt but now a conventional Kennworth. Bumble-Bee is now a camaro instead of Volkswagon. And Jazz is a Solstice. I think he was originally a porsche. The special effects are absolutely mind-blowing. Only problem is the action sequences where the robots are fighting each other. The problem is that it's to hard to distinguish the robots from one another. I guess if they were to leave out some of the finer details, then they'ld be able to sepperate them more clearly when they're in close proximity. But then they wouldn't be so realistic. Very good story line. Actually very believable and simple. The producers and director kept the story simple and the action moving. As an action movie, this was awesome. Even the young actors did a good job of working with the robots that weren't really there during filming.
Acting-9/10 , F/X-10/10 , story-9/10 , action10/10
