  TOY COMMANDER - SIMPLY INCREDIBLE
Review created: 06/27/08
by:

I remember standing outside the mall on 9/9/99 at 1:00 AM waiting to get in for my reserved Dreamcast gaming platform. Nearly nine years ago. Unfortunately my Dreamcast and its games were stolen about 5 years ago and I still have vivid images in my mind of my all time favorite video game for the Dreamcast - TOY COMMANDER. By far one of the most well rounded video games ever made - especially for its time. Why well rounded? Let me tell you what I mean. As most other males I like to shoot weapons, race cars, give to the chase and challenge my skills and Toy Commander has it all in an environment that is not violent, not bloody or full of gore and exceptionally challenging. Call it the "Toy Story" of video games. Every kid would love to see his toys come to life and just like the movie (animation to be correct) "Toy Story" this game does exactly that. It gives you control over the toys in your room with fun missions, excellent multiplayer capabilities that will leave you laughing all the way through. With a formidable assortment of vehicles at your disposal, you never get tired or bored of the action and challenges. If you like military vehicles (tanks etc...) they are there. If you like flying you have helicopters and airplanes. Trucks and other land vehicles you ask? Well, you get the picture. Tons of fun, Tons of excitement and tons of laughs. This is a game you will be comfortable letting your child play.

I have nearly every gaming platform that has been designed in the past 20 years and honestly, Toy Commander is the one game that I enjoyed the most. I just bought a Dreamcast on-line just to be able to play it once again and share with my son who is 11 now. Whereas most people buy games for their gaming platform, I bought this gaming platform for the game. "TOY COMMANDER" - it simply ROCKS!

Great Game For Kids Young And Old
Review created: 03/10/07(updated 03/10/07)

How can't you like flying around in a toy plane or driving a toy car? It is like being a kid again making up a epic struggle between good and evil with your toys the only difference is that in this game you get to be one of the toys!

Some of the younger kids might get frustrated with the game as many of the missions require near perfect performances to beat. It also gets a bit repetitive since you have to repeat most missions 5-10 times before you get the timing down and figure out exactly how to beat a level.

Multiplayer is great fun although not that challenging since you can just look at the screen and see where your opponent is.

Toy Commander - the best game you've never played
Review created: 01/03/07

This is one of the best games out there for the Dreamcast. It's easy to pick up and learn, great for kids and adults, looks good, and has great replayablity. The multiplayer is awesome, 1-4 players, split screen, and you can choose from wheeled or airborne crafts, firing weapons like: rubber bands, pens, markers, tacks, erasers, etc.

Overall, great gameplay, fun story mode, and awesome multiplayer! I have it in my Youth Group room as we speak. It's the reason I went back and got a Dreamcast again!

My 11 year old son and 5 year old daughter love this game. They like to be able to select from the several different vehicles. It is age appropriate for both.

How to take a great idea and ruin it

Pros:
Controlling toys in battles around a house is a fantastic concept; nice graphics

Cons:
Too repititive and tedious; high frustration level

I must be out of step with folks in the gaming world. A lot of people love this game and absolutely rave about it. I bought it, took it home and couldn't force myself to like it. Sadly, this is one of those games I really wanted to like because it looks so intriguing -- pretty graphics, nifty concept and a lot of things to see and do. Toy Commander, as the name implies, requires the happy Dreamcast owner to take control of various toys (tanks, trucks, planes and the like) and go to war. The battlefields are in various spots around a home, and that leads to some pretty wild perspectives --...

  Even Toys Can't Get Along

Pros:
Cool concept, lots of level, vehicles a plenty, great multiplayer action, funky music, nice variety

Cons:
Some levels are very hard, Huggy Bear is one tough mother

Intro: I wasn t expecting too much from Toy Commander. Just the idea of having battles with toys sounds great, but games with this theme so far have failed at providing a satisfying experience (i.e. Army Men). Toy Commander however focuses on variety and innovation, and with that we have a truly creative game that is wonderfully executed. Story: War is not pretty especially when toys go at it, okay not really. The story is about a young boy named Andrew and his battle against Huggy Bear. Huggy Bear feels neglected and turns against his beloved owner by rallying up troops and raging war on the.

Pros:
Creativity abounds, Beautiful Graphics. Lot of Gameplay, Huggy Bear

Cons:
Strange levels of Difficulty, Stops being fun fairly quickly

This game makes me think back to the days of the epic battles that my toys once had. It lets me do all the things that I was never allowed to do in my house. Toy Commander is definitely unique. The premise of the game is that you are some kid Billy, Tommy something like that and your old neglected toys are rising up in rebellion. They are led by the ruthless Huggy Bear. You must command all of your new toys to victory. Your toys consist of planes, helicopters, tanks and trucks and the ever-valuable army men. This game is incredibly creative. There are seven rooms with six missions in each...

  I like my toys

Pros:
Many cars, many levels

Cons:
Hard, a bit unfocused at times

I am a big fan of games that go above and beyond the call of duty, games that pack in so much variety and so many things to do that you actually feel like you are getting your money s worth. There aren t a whole bunch of games like this any more it seems. The Dreamcast has its fair share, Rush 2049, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Powerstone 2, etc. Now I can add one more great title to that list: Toy Commander. Gameplay: 9/10 Misses a 10 only by the slightest of margins because of the guess and check nature of some levels. You control many, many, many different vehicles which, in effect, are all pretty.

  should you get Toy Commander?

Pros:
sharp graphics, diverse game play, unique game

Cons:
had some trouble with control at times, missions are a bit disjointed

Let's see, where to start, where to start. I bought Toy Commander based on the very positive reviews I had seen on several different websites. It sounded like a game that was unique, enjoyable, and one to own. My short verdict is that, while I like it, I've neglected it in favor of some other Dreamcast titles...but let me explain. First off, the graphics. They're very nice. And realistic. The attention to detail in this game to create a world that looks real is evident. The sound, pretty good. I found the background music to be so-so, but it's not obnoxious or anything so that's a big plus....
