I recently researched aftermarket GPS Navigation devices for cars and settled on the TomTom 300 as the best. Here were my factors:
1. Be simple to use. No manuals, I don't want to get into an accident figuring it out and my wife needs to be able to use it without training.
2. Be smart. For example, showing me points of interest related to where I am now without me needing to tell it where I am.
3. Updatable. Both the maps and the software should be updatable easily
4. Be portable. I want to be able to move it between cars easily.
5. Be priced around $500.
The TomTom 300 met all these criteria and was best in class. I particularly like how it remembers what I've done in the past. Besides allowing me to program favorite addresses, it remembers popular cities I've use and the points of interest that interest me. I love that I can download traffic info into this device and reroute accordinginly. The 3D map view is much better than the bird-eye view that other navigators deliver.
Killer Feature: Dynamic Traffic Updates. I was stuck on the freeway last week and TomTom connected thru my bluetooth phone, downloaded my traffic conditions, and then rerouted me onto a different freeway. It was longer in mileage but I got to my appointment on time. Smart.
Only nit on this device is that when driving on the freeway it only identifies street exits by their exit number (e.g. Exit 39) which given in California not all exits are numbered this can be confusing sometimes.
UPDATE OCT 2006: TomTom recently released a free update that fixes the street exit issue mentioned above so that both the exit number and street name are displayed.
UPDATE MAY 2007: If you buy an older TomTom 300 you can buy the newly released set of maps with more than 410,000 new road miles and 500,000 points of interest for $50 from TomTom. Also you may want to also check out the "TomTom One" which goes for about $300 or the slightly higher priced ($400) TomTom 510 which adds street name text-to-speech.

I have been looking at GPS receivers for the past 4 years now and could never find one I liked...until now! My job requires me to travel across the state to areas that are both rural and unfamiliar to me. In the past, I had to do waht most of us do...print out and online map or fumble with a store bought map. Very cumbersome and very unsafe thing to do in the car!
Some of the things I really like about this system:
1. Easy of use --- You can add an unlimited number of addresses as favorites. That way the next time you want to travel to this destination all you have to do it touch "travel to, favorites, and the name of your destination".
2. Visually appealing --- The maps on this receiver are crisp and very acurate (right down to nearby lakes, RRs, etc.)
3. Portability --- You can take this receiver from one car to the next. No major installation needed, it simply mounts to your windshield with a sturdy adjustable suction cup cradle.
4. Updateable maps --- you can update maps by taking out the card and going online for free updated maps. These maps are really accurate also. I was in a very small rural town on a road that wasn't more than a gravel cow path and this system knew the name of it!
5. Searchablitiy --- with this system you can navigate to nearby attractions such as airports, restaurants, gas stations, churches, malls, repair shops, parks, whatever you want...no matter where you are. I use this feature many times when I am out with friends and someone mentions that they are hungry and want to go out to eat. I simply click no nearby restaurants and it will give me a list of like 50 restaurant and the directions to them.
6. Safety --- This system is voice activated so there is no need to even look at the screen while you are driving. The system will verbally tell you when, how far, and what direction to turn next.
Overall, great system, easy to use, good price, and very accurate. A+++++

TomTom Go 300 gpsThis gps works great, and does have Bluetooth. I have two of these units and they work good for me. These are my first gps and I am hooked on GPS.

Tomtom go 300The 300 had a few things i really loved, it was able to pick out every resturant in the area the list was so long i dont think it missed any at all.But the turn by turn instructions were a little off.It told me to turn left when i needed to turn right or it told me to turn when i was up on the turn .I did like the blue tooth and the internet connection through the blue tooth i think over all it was loaded with features.IT is a bit big.i have not used it much and it is still under testing

WOW I got a 400 dollar Tom Tom for 66 bucks and it works great I love it thank you Ebay. I have always wanted a GPS and this was the only way I could get one I am so happy with it.

Tomtom GO 300 Car GPSI bought this device because i'm new in this town, it's really easy to use, super nice screen i really like this GPS, the driving animation it's great, i don't have any complaint with this device it's just great.

THE TOMTOM PORTABLE GPS, 2ND I HAVE OWNED, IS EASY TO OPERATE WITH THE TOUCH SCREEN DESIGN. FOR A BASIC GPS THIS IS ONE OF THE LESS EXPENSIVE FOR A PORTABLE. WHEN PURCHASING A USED SYSTEM MAKE SURE THE MEMORY CARD IS INCLUDED AND ALSO, THE CAR CHARGER. THIS IS ALL YOU NEED BEFOR STARTING THAT TRIP. INSTRUCTIONS AND MANUAL ARE HELPFUL FOR FIRST TIME USERS.

I Won two TomTom bids so do not know which you one you are asking about. One TomTom I won a bid on I have all excellent things to say. The other one I have nothing nice to say at all about the seller, PayPal or EBAY.
I have won 6 or 7 bids over time with EBAY. I have had three problems with my transactions two involving PayPal. Neither time am I happy with PayPal and I am considering not using either EBAY or PayPal in the future. I am asking friends about thier success percentage with you guys. I asked you guys to provide me your stats on success and you did not either time so I am assuming you are ashamed to provide this information to me. If I am the normal rate after 6 or 7 winnning bids I am done with EBAY.
It also seems to me PayPal has a monopoly with you. THEY NEED COMPETITION so they handle thier users better then they do not. If you guys allow other on line payment options or a competitor to PayPal I will be the first to try them thats for sure as PAYPAL is a joke to deal with when something needs to be refunded or there is some type of problem period.
EBAY right now to me is a below average company. PAYPAL is the bottom of the Barrel company in my opinion.

The Tom Tom 300 is a bit more advanced in the GPS market and I was ready to "move up" to a more detailed unit and I found it in this item. I've extremely pleased to have found it at such a remarkable price and I'm totally happy with this unit. Best deal I've been able to make in many years!

Tom Tom not as good as the name---consider Nextar!Large, bulky unit when compared to the cheaper Nextar "K-mart" units. Does not have any address newer than 6 years old. Slow to locate the GPS satellite: sometimes 10 minutes. Would not buy another of this brand---Cheaper units work better and are smaller.

this is a good unit for money spent. had to add maps for local and secondary roads, which was an additional 150.00 butnow it pretty much well take you any where in the us. and canada. haven't learned all the features, but is very user friendly. the more I use it the more i'm learning what it can do and the more I like it.this unit can go from car to car so you don't have to buy a bunch of mounts to go in each car. over all its well worth the money even buying the extra maps.

Excellent choice brand and model Tomtom Go 300GPSI have enjoyed my Tomtom GO 300 GPS and highly reccomend this model. I have had no problems with following it's percise direction with easy mounting and unmounting for proper storage when not in use.

TomTom GPS 300I bought this item because I needed a pernter that knew were it was going when I transported patients back to there home after getting better at the hospitals. I worked for a small Ambalance company that did alot of those. They did not have GPS's in the trucks. I got on E-bay just looking for some cheap ones that might help me out. I ended up getting two of them. The Garmin c330 and the TomTom 300. Both work very well and have very good screnes but I seem to like the TomTom better as programming and ease of use. now that I have have a partner to get me to there residense's and back home again with no problem I seem to be the one doing all of the new transports. Good ItemThe GPS receiver I purchased was for my girlfriend but prior to giving it to her I tested the item. I actually thought it was a very good item only bad thing was that we had to update the maps. It did not matter though because after further research I found out even it was brand new I would have had to but the updated maps anyway.

The Tomtom worked great and everything was in perfect shape. The navigation GPS gave very good directions and gave me good describtons of the area. Its very easy to start up and use for people who need somthing simple.

TomTom GO 300 GPSThis unit does everything the basic driver needs it to do, but without all the ancillary features that you probably wouldn't use anyway or the hefty price tag to go along with it.
It is easily transported between vehicles, easy to use and the 3.5" screen is more than adequate. The touch-screen prompts are easy to use and easy to read. The mounting bracket is not as versatile as the one that comes with the Magellan, but it gets the job done.
If you're looking for a good GPS without spending next year's Christmas budget, go for this TomTom. Hey, who cares if your buddy at work spent $845 for the latest and the greatest? You can get the same results by spending 1/4 of what that idiot did!!

never buy a refurbished tom tom. it went out the second time it was turned on. besides that after i exchanged it for a new one they work great for direction and gps coordinates.
