The Hillstrands are a great family of fishermen. Their story was very interesting to read and tells a lot more than you can learn from watching Deadliest Catch--also a great show.
I bought the book being a huge fan of the show and that particular boat. It was a great read, couldn't put it down..and the subjects covered produce much food for thought long after the book is finished. The book is fast paced, riveting, and I've re-read a few times so as not to miss certain aspects..ie allow them to sink in more fully.
THE BOOK WAS A QUICK READ . IT WAS A TRUE LIFE DESCRIPTION OF THE HILLSTRAND BROTHERS LIFE GROWING UP WITH A TOUGH LOVE DAD AND ALL THAT COMES WITH GROWING UP IN ALASKA .
As a fan of Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" I recieved my copy as a gift. Once I started to read it, I could not put it down. The love the Hillstrand family has for each other is clearly evident - even through the horseplay and hard times. Being a bit of a hellion in my younger days made me appreciate the close knit ties the brothers have, and what it takes to bring us city folks a plate of crablegs for dinner.
This is excellent reading for anyone who has ever been on a boat larger than a canoe - or wishes to fish one day.
As told by the Co-Captains, Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand. This book is well written and really gives you an insight to life on a crab boat during crab season. It goes a bit more in depth than Deadliest Catch does, and it won't leave you disappointed.
