I used to watch tv when it was black and white with my 8 kids.We loved this movie as we live in west virginia. Now I an 81 years of age Sept 3th I have look high and low and guess what. I now have it Thank's. Lillian
I watched this movie when I was much younger but I really think it is better now that I can understand what they were doing. And, in my opinion, just doesn't get any better than Robert Mitchum!! Well, maybe John Wayne. Maybe.
Politically incorrect even in 1958. Most contemporary 'pop' movies are not a reflection of reality anymore than basic comic strips. This is. I was born in '47 and this formed my core values about family, business, hot cars, guns, and evil people on both sides of the law. The Hollywood-NewYork crowd hated it. I feel it is one of the best movies ever made. A pioneer in car action scenes, this was before 'Bullet', 'The French Connection', or any of the early chase movies. To predate the action in this you have to go back to the Keystone Kops. Gather up the entire family for a Saturday night viewing, you won't need to apologize to anyone young or old.
I purchased this movie because it was the first movie I saw in a theater as a young lad. I like the old cars and Robert Mitchum as well as the fact that it is a story that could have been true. thank you
The site, White Elephant Media, I purchased these two dvds from was easy to search. They were professional and quick in their responses to my order. Package was appropriate for the merchandise and it arrived safely and in good condition.
I have seen some of the movie and loved what i did see of it years ago. I recently found out that my Pastor has been looking for this movie for awhile. when i found that out i came home that night after church and bought it for him. i know he will love this , it's about all he talks about and its a great good old fashioned movie balck and white but good movie without all the cussing in it. this is one movie you can sit down and watch without all the other drama.plus movies like this are great priced and good for the whole family. i rate this EXCELLENT!
I prefer widescreen format but the movie overall was good. Black and white dealing with an area I am very fond of. Gives a little insight on the characters of the Smokey Mountains and is depicted well. It is worth $15 to watch at least once and it's good enough to watch on occasion again and again through the years.
I loved cars when I was young and I still do. I am 65. I am sory I tried to help, but I am not about to leave 100 characters for review. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This movie was popular in my early childhood and was the forerunner to the "bond" flicks as far as car chases and gadgetry. I have fond memories of watching this with my father as a child on black and white tv.-was thrilled to see it available on dvd and bought it immediately. I believe that if you can think of it and it has already been for sale somewhere/sometime in the past, you can probably find it for sale on ebay! W.A.Smith
I bought this movie for my mom and dad. I had bought one for my husband previously. I was well pleased with the shipping. I recieve this DVD in just a few day.
If you have ever wondered how stock car racing got it's roots watch this movie! Great historical guide for the true stock car fan. Its still can be "campy" but there is no other movie that can chronicle the begins of stock car racing that is still avaliable. A great time peice. Watch it all the way through first. Then watch it again and just skip to the great car scenes. No CGI here!
Still the great movie that I remember from the 50's and the cigette still makes it between cars. Some of the old stars had their start in these black and white action movies.
Thunder Road has always been one of my favorite movies as Robert Michum has always been one of my favorite actors. He and John Wayne together even better. I saw this movie for the first time at a drive in threater, the screen don't get any bigger or better than. I guess it was in the early to mid 60s and I went back to see it two or three times. I bought it on VHS tape when it first came out and now on DVD, so I can watch it now and then for the next 25 plus year. The movie being in black and white doesn't bother me at all, it is still a great movie. As for dislikes, I haven't any.
I bought this movie because I remembered watching it when I was a little girl. It was just as good now as it was then! The only thing I wish was that the song "Thunder Road" had been the Robert Mitchum version. It's a great movie that my whole family enjoyed.
This movie was on TMC and I loved it enough to buy it for myself and my Mom. The best part about the movie was Robert Mitchum's acting. He is smuggling moonshine and officials try to catch him, but have a difficult time. The second best thing was discovering a singer (who plays his girlfriend) whom I never heard about before! Her name is Keeley Smith, who sang with Louis Prima years ago. The only song she sings is "Whipporwhill", but it is exceptional. She has the most wonderful voice (net to Doris Day!). Problem is, it is only available on a 45rpm and so rare that it is not obtainable to me yet! This is an old fashioned "great" movie. You need to have this if you watch and collect old movies! Rebecca
Cover makes you think color! I really thought everything was remastered. A little disappointed. A movie re-made in the year 2000 should be in color. I don't think anyone watches Black and White anymore.
My cousin wanted me to get this for him and i watched it with him and it was great,, i might get another one for my calection on movies,,thank u again Ebay,,,
This is one of the best movies made considering that I was born in 1940. I had the movie on a vcr tape but I wanted it on a dvd. I was about the way life was in the 40s and the 50s.
I purchased this movie for my uncle who was having heart trouble and limited to what he was allowed to do. He has wanted this old movie for years and never could find it. It was great, he cried when we gave it to him. He has watched it several times since. Ebay is the place to find hard to find items for a great price! Thanks Janleann
