Great for those who love the Oz stories by Baum, but may be a bit of a bore to those not familiar with the books. Very interesting to see the early ideas. The first three movies in three collection are good, the fourth is not very well done though.
The movies were playful and for its time impressive special effects. sometimes the stories were hard to follow but that is the nature of a silent movie. Its not a Judy Garland Wizard. This is actually more gritty but very playful at the same time and since the first three were actually screenwritten and direct by Frank L. Baum himself you can not for a moment not believe these were the visions of his writings he intended to bring to life. I decieded to buy because The Wizard of Oz is such and important part of our culture it invades films like Zardoz inspries tv shows like Off to see the Wizard. When the phrase The Great American Novel is said it implies That a new writer has asperations of unseating The Wizard of Oz as the greatest work of American litature.
This is a 1925 version of the "Wizard of Oz," with a very young Judy Garland. Same as the Judy Garland who made the 1939 version. This disk was a Christmas present to a fanatic "Wizard of Oz" fan and until I did a search on Ebay, I didn't even know it exhisted.
this movie was terriable, I turned it on and tried to watch five minutes of it and had to turn it off. It just wasn't what I expected.I only bought it because I assumed it was like the original one that kids would like.
