It was almost as good as the 2005 remake and would be better if has a little alien s in it. I was looking for a lot of old classic movies like War of the Worlds, The Thing, & many more like them.
Good movie with a lot of action. Acting was good, but with a little too much screaming from Dakota. They could have reduced that a little. The Blood being sprayed over the landscrape was overkill. But, all in all, I still liked the movie.
It is so totally neat to have this fantastic movie on a disc !! I can go back and forth to my favorite scenes in seconds !!! The interviews with the cast and crew make this a KEEPER !! Stop wearing out your VHS tape and buy this DVD !!!

While the newer Spielberg/Cruise is visually unmatched, the original George Pal movie is the one that started it all. It still holds up quite well even without all the newer bells & whistles of modern special effects. I have both versions of War of the Worlds, and enjoy them both. It's nice though, to experience the original movie.
This 2003 edition of the War Of The Worlds has been promoted as the definitive edition of the film. I found that this DVD transfer is inferior to the 1999 Edition in every way. This new 2003 edition was taken from different preprint material than the 1999 edition. I have projected both versions on a 1080i DLP projector and the 2003 edition falls short of the 1999 edition, in color saturation as well as sharpness. It appears that the print or preprint has a registration problem. What this means is that the print that this 2003 edition was made from was slightly out of registration. In short, other than seeing some minor highlights in the shadow areas of the picture that may be more revealing than the 1999 edition, this DVD transfer is not superior to the 1999 DVD. I will give Paramount credit, however, for sticking to the original 4:3 full frame format and not converting the film to a widescreen format and cropping the top and the bottom the frame in order to satiate the people who want everything widescreen.
WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE ABOUT THIS END OF THE WORLD FILM. YOU HAVE ALIENS, GOOD GUYS, BAD GUYS, EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT TO DIE......AND THE MICROBES SAVE US. GOOD THING WE HAVE THE FLU, IN THIS CASE. CUTTING EDGE SPECIAL EFFECTS FOR THAT TIME PERIOD AND FANTASTIC SOUND EFFECTS. MAKE SURE YOU LOOK FOR THE WAY THE LIGHTING OF THE FILM WAS USED.....MADE IT CREEPIER .
I loved this movie all my life and really wanted a DVD copy. H.G. Wells is my favorite writer and I have read all his works. This version of "War of the Worlds" is not as close to the book as the newer version, but it is still great. If you have not seen it, check it out.
This is a great classic sci-fi film. The special effects and set designs are excellent. Only defects are a very wooden acting performance by Gene Barry and a dumb ending.
I purchased this DVD for my Husband and he loves this movie even better than the new remake! If you enjoy special effects and a whole lot of action, without a doubt you're going to love watching this movie!
I first saw this production while in the service in Japan and enjoyed it even more than the book. I haven't seen the current production which I hear is technically superior. By comparison with the newer movie, some critics have panned this one. I really don't care what they think. I truly enjoyed this movie and of course the narrator is the best.
