  Best Sting album!
Review created: 04/18/08

I know that people may not agree that this is Stings best album. He does have other good albums with some very good tracks that I love, but none are wholistically good. The Soul Cages is. Track after track it fits together though the songs vary in style, of course. All songs sound good. This is not a piecemeal album by any means. It is one of those rare albums in which every song sounds good.

  Soulful

A classic departure from POlice work but just as powerful. Insightful and peaceful musically and lyrically.. It seems to be less popular than other works he has done, but it is the type of record that takes you by surprise like a "Mercury Falling", and can listen to repeatedly.

  Sting - Soul Cages
Review created: 01/05/07

A lot of Sting's music steers away from the quality of Fields of Gold (a popular hit), and leans towards an adult style of music that muses over philosophical and metaphysical issues. Soul Cages does not echo Sting's Police days, neither does it reflect the popular tunes that we hear on the radio. This is an album that leans towards Sting's jazz preferences and as such is suitable for the discerning adult listener.

Pros:
A maturing Sting offers a true work of art

Cons:
Brooding and dark - not for persons who prefer "happy happy joy joy" pop

Foxy_shy s one-man Sting and the Police W/O: Part VII Mast without a sail

Pros:
His most beautiful work of art

Cons:
May seem too complicated, takes time to grow on you

The important thing to remember, so I m told, is that there s a reason for everything and if you can t think of anything to write, it s either because you don t have anything to say or that you do have something to say and you re too afraid to say it maybe. (Sting) You weather one storm to live for another. You keep hoping that somewhere beyond the sea there s a place for you where you will never see the sky anger to black again. But so far you re just ever sailing. Sounds familiar? Was that written about you? If it was, you should give The Soul Cages a spin or two. Ultimately a collection of.

  Sting's Caged Soul
Review created: 08/11/00

Pros:
Rich and diverse sound, some profound lyrics--haunting and memorable

Cons:
A bit uneven in places, but even those odd parts are fun to hear

Reviewing music is different than reviewing books or movies or most other products. We're visual beings, mostly; we look at things and can describe visual things more clearly than we can describe, say, smells, or tastes. (Read wine reviews: what does "simple yet earthy" MEAN, exactly?) Describing sounds, especially complex sounds like music, is difficult, because it's harder to fix sounds in one's mind than it is to fix visual images. As I've gotten older, I find myself buying music that is more unique or more distinctive than the music I bought as a teenager. I mostly listen to music that is.

  Sting Bares His Soul
Review created: 01/20/00
by: e_burrell -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Sting has created timeless haunting lyrics, wonderful music, and a top-notch album

Cons:
There are only nine songs on the album, but in fairness, most of them are pretty long

If there is one performer that has played it smart over the years it has been Sting. After the Police broke up Sting managed to launch a solid solo career, And why not? He is a very talented vocalist, writes incredibly complex lyrics, and is an exceptional bass player. Sting has also always surrounded himself with top-notch musicians, therefore guaranteeing his music is of great quality. And so it continues to amaze me when people dismiss his post-Police music as being soft and boring. I have one friend who refuses to listen to anything that Sting has done since the beginning of his solo...

  Sting's eulogy for his father
Review created: 05/18/00
by: Nathanael73 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great lyrics and musical variety

Cons:
none

The Soul Cages is a complex and engaging concept album. Sting wrote the songs as part of the grieving process after the death of his father. However, it is not merely therapy. The album is an intricate work of art of the highest order. Not only is Sting a poet and a great vocalist, he is a musician of the highest caliber. I would go so far as to say that he is one of the greatest artist to work in the field of music in the last hundred years. He is in a league occupied by a mere handful of artists such as Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, and U2. If you think that sounds like a lofty claim, spend some.
