2 years after giving birth to daughter Chloe Rose, Olivia Newton-John returns to the studio for what should've been another hit album. "The Rumour" was released in the summer of 1988 to great reviews but disappointing sales.
The title track and first single was penned by Elton John and was supported by an awesome video featuring a very hot looking Olivia, as well as a great remix by Shep Pettibone. While it received some airplay from video and audio outlets, it failed to bring Livvy back to the top of the charts.
The following single, "Can't We Talk It Over In Bed", was deemed too risqué by some but was later a hit for Grayson Hugh under the title "Talk It Over".
After 2 failed attempts at selling the album, no further singles were released, with the exception of the Australian bonus track "It's Always Australia For Me", in celebration of Australia's bicentennial.
