I really liked this movie when I saw it years ago as a rerun on TV. I found it interesting because it's about reincarnation and there aren't very many movies about that subject. It is well made with some well known names and this story will keep you on the edge. I bought it because it was never released on DVD and the VHS copies are hard to find these days.
Great 1970's vintage thiller movie.Showing older model cars in nice scenery.Murderus, romantic and disturbing scenes keeps the watcher entrilled in it's developing story line. Movie was made very well.Plot, story and characters are wonderfully portrayed.Peter Proud (Michael Sarrazin) does an excellent job.Even the Old woman(Margot Kidder)was played very well even though her makeup was not too believing, which is quite comical.Typical of your Seventies movies. Everything comes together at the end,and the story is played out and executed perfectly in the end. The pool scene has to be my favorite. When peter proud falls asleep and has the dream of his other life as jeff yelling out to Marcia. While the old woman (Marcia)is watching and the daughter wakes peter up.The two ,peter proud and Ann the daughter look at the mother and she runs away in fear.Hilarious!!!
Saw this movie many many years ago. Enjoyed it very much and want to see it again. My mother also likes this movie so I'll give it to her after watching it.
I saw this movie in the 1970's and the haunting story has stayed with me ever since. I have probably seen this film thirty or forty times and never tire of Peter Proud's flashbacks to a previous life. What a fascinating premise about a soul who somehow comes back too soon. Thousands of fans have been waiting in vain for the DVD release which appears as though it will never happen. As one reviewer stated this film is typical of the 70's. Yes, when movies still had actual scripts and eerie moments that were somehow within the realm of believeability. The soundtrack is subtle, and the music accompanying the night scenes of the Cord automobile are stunning. For those who love gore, tons of blood and teenage slasher movies look elsewhere. this is a thinking person's film
My sister and I grew up in the early 80s in the advent of serious cable television, etc. "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud" was just one of hundreds of films which showed up every once in a while on regular television. While I am amazed that this could be considered a "cult classic" (re: the price of getting hold of a copy on Ebay) we did have a great deal of fun watching it whenever it was shown. Growing up in Boston, we joked that the lead character looked like now retired Boston Celtic player Kevin McKale (now the amazingly inept general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves). Oh well, perhaps McKale should give up on basketball and consider acting? Incidentally, the film is a typical 70s film - dark, dreary backdrops for the most part and the accompanying film score is equally dull.
