Another Marvel comic come to life. Tom Jane as the Punisher is the perfect fit. And John Travolta as the bad guy. Casting director did a class A job putting the right people in the correct roles. Will be waiting to see if they continue this sieres.

  Punisher DVD
Review created: 04/06/08

This movie seriously kicks butt!! I don't know how I missed this when it was in the theater, I don't think the trailers on TV did it any justice. The movie is hard hitting and non stop. Brutal in some scenes but appropriate.

The movie I purchased was in perfect condition, no issues what so ever. The packaging from the producer of the film leaves a bit to be desired. They tried to be creative, and what resulted was a case that really doesn't hold your DVD securely.

Excellent Movie.

The Extended Cut of The Punisher is absolutly amazing. If you like violent, dark movies about revenge then you will not feel like a real person without this movie. I own both the extended cut and regular version, and the extended cut goes much deeper into the story and explains a little more about Castle's past.

'The Punisher' Belabors Destruction With A Calm Resolve
Review created: 04/18/04
by: Vormancian -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great story with little mass appeal. Comic-book on film.

Cons:
Great story with little mass appeal. People want movies based on comic-books instead.

Ask not, what is death? Rather ask, when is death? The Punisher is the story of an anti-hero. Actually, it s something of a primer on the concept. In some sense it s a simplistic exposition of the idea, but in a very similar sense The Odyssey is as well. The Punisher is also a movie filled with violence that remains dark, depressing, and without hope all the way to the bitter end. You might not like the movie, but to not like it because it never rises from its despair is like thinking of The Odyssey as flawed because, that guy can t catch a break, can he? Every third release these days is...

"You Shouldn't Play With Knives." - The Punisher

After seeing the Lindsay Lohan flick Mean Girls, I was in the mood for something different, so I went to my local movie theater (only two buses away). I was planning to see Van Helsing but I decided instead to see The Punisher, which has been in theaters for a few weeks already. I had low expectations for the movie because of bad critical reviews, but I just thought the movie looked good, and I thought right. The Punisher is based on the Marvel comic books, but it is very different from other comic book films like Spiderman or X-Men. As other reviewers have pointed out, The Punisher has an...

  Brutal Punishment
Review created: 04/19/04
by: Bruguru-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Fun at times, some humor.

Cons:
Predictable, missed opportunities, very violent.

The comic book industry has survived a number of setbacks over the years, going from feast to famine to feast yet again. These days comic book sales may be nowhere near the pinnacle of their halcyon days in the late eighties and early nineties. Still, the characters themselves have become very hot properties, a fact the recent non-stop parade of superhero films will attest to. The most recent of these is The Punisher, starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta. This is not, however, the first big-screen interpretation of the character; fans may recall an earlier, 1989 film of the same title...

  The Best Movie of 2004.
Review created: 03/23/05
by: Pavel21 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
An entertaining vengance picture.

Cons:
Hero's moral shadiness. Very violent.

The Punisher is a different flavor in the candy store of Marvel Comics recent cinematic adaptations. Unlike the rest of the movies (The Hulk, Spider-Man 2, X-Men, etc.), this is not a PG-13-rated flick aimed at a universal audience. Instead first-time director Jonathan Hensleigh has helmed a dark, brooding, brutal movie that will likely be either utterly enjoyed or fully shunned. Our hero is Frank Castle (Thomas Jane, 61*, Deep Blue Sea), an undercover federal agent who is getting out of the business. Unfortunately criminal bigwig Howard Saint (John Travolta) has other ideas after losing a...

Yet Another Marvel Classic Comes Violently to Life
Review created: 10/31/04

Pros:
Somewhat faithful adaptation of the Marvel Comics classic.

Cons:

Does Good always have to be virtuous? Can it (good) stoop to the level of Evil perpetrating unflinching violence in order to vanquish the former? Is it ever right to take the law into your own hands when the law fails to deliver justice? This is the over-riding theme of the Marvel Comic Book classic, The Punisher, a variation of a tale first told in the pages of a 1974 Spider-Man comic, wherein The Punisher a.k.a. Frank Castle was introduced as a villain; a New York City detective who is gunned down with his wife and children during a picnic in Central Park. Then Stan Lee the legionary mentor.
