The Power of Myth by Bill D. Moyers, Bill Moyers, Joseph Campbell (1988)

I love mythology, and Campbell writes in a down-to-earth logical way about myths and how they evolved into the morals to which we adhere today.
I bought this book because I had borrowed it from a friend and fallen in love with it and its mythological clarity!

Campbell and Moyers collaborations is great and a wonderful way of looking at spirituality. It brought me into a new way of thinking about religion. The illustration in the volume makes the images come to life. The Gift of the Goddess it good reading for everyone. This book is excellent for a study group who would like to explore different aspects of why modern man believes what we believe. My spiritual director recommended this book to me originally and it peaked my interest. I find it very enjoyable.

I recall seeing the show of the same name on PBS, and was completely captivated by Joseph Campbell's observations on how myth plays such a pivotal role in our lives, as a society or even the family unit. No matter the societal beliefs, there are elements of myth that are universal... certainly reason enough to remind us all of how much we are one people.

The book is a compilation of interviews aired on PBS. The author Joseph Campbell is interviewed by Billy Moyers, PBS news analyst/commentator. The book accurately transcribes the actual videos with little imbellishment. I am using the book as part of a theological study in a
Methodist Sunday School Class. It provides an excellent stimulus for great theological discussion.

This book studies the power and message of the hero story in myth. From the ancient Greek stories to present day Star Wars. Joseph uncovers the constants in each story and uses this to lead us to our own truth!
