i love this movie,mel gibson as always delivers an intense and beautiful performance.heath ledger is fantastic in his first real hollywood roll.(he was great in the "10 things i hate about you" but this was his first serious roll of many.)the film itself is a very emotional and heart pounding journey.mel gibson becomes benjamin martin he makes it so personal.if you like epic movies,and mel gibson you will love this movie.

This Heath Ledger/Mel Gibson flick about the American Revolution is not for history buffs, who will spend their time counting the numerous inaccuracies throughout the film. Others may not be in the mood for what might be considered cliche moments of duty, honour and love for one's country, not to mention cliche portrayals of the French, often the butt of a joke. The Patriot does lay it on a little thick, but that doesn't mean this film is a total loss. In fact, there is something endearing about The Patriot that will leave you loving the characters and cheering for a victory you already know is certain. The landscapes are sweeping and beautiful, and the storyline is compelling. The character portrayals are believable and performed in such a way that you do feel a connection to the leading family. If you leave your cynicism at the door, then you will find something in The Patriot that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy and nostalgic, even if you're not American.

This movie is superb. The relationship between the father and his kids is really interesting to watch. The way that the events of history transformed his life is also fascinating as well.

This is a must see movie with a tremendous cast. Holds your interest from beginning to end and very well written as well as acted. This is one of my favorites for Heath Leger he is marvelous in this film. It truly shows the depth of his talents. It is so sad that he is gone so young. We could have seen so much more from him. God bless him. Mel Gibson is superb and supported by a very talented cast.

Most movies with Mel Gibson are worth seeing, and this is no exception. Mel teams up with Heathe Ledger in this Civil War Era movie. They fight to free America from British Tyranny, a great movie!

I loved the dvd, and the main characters are awesome actors. Heath Ledger died before he really showed his potential. He was a great actor! There wasn't anything I didn't like about it, and I bought it because I owned it on vhs and wanted it on dvd.

It works, it was cheap, and it shipped pretty fast. I bought it because I had a tape of it and it broke and I love the movie so I wanted to own it again.

In this ever piercing epic Heath Ledger and Mel Gibson exhibit the kind of courage and intestinal fortitude it takes to preserve human rights and liberties, to have the right to bear arms against those who would misuse authority and government. This was a whirlwind of desire for peace and love blown by the breath of American destiny. Those who have ever had to fight for those they loved or for something worth pursuing will identify with every scene as this cast of characters does their best to portray death defying moments. A box office success, and a Patriotic epic. A real tribute to the actor, Heath Ledger (Australian-born) as character, Gabriel, who carries the tattered and mended flag of the country he is willing to die for.

I'm not a fan of war movies in general, so knowing that this was about the Revolutionary War made me less inclined to watch. However, it wasn't at all like a 'typical' war movie and I was glad I had watched. The Patriot is story- and character-centered.

I purchased it because Heath Ledger had just died and I wanted to see all of his films; this was the first to garner him substantial notice in the movie industry. It should be noted that Heath's role was secondary.

The star of this movie is Mel Gibson. Love him or loathe him, Mel Gibson is magnificent in the flick as a seemingly peaceful widower with six children who must unveil his secret brutal past when the war infringes upon his family.

Taking place in South Carolina's forests, swamps, and on some of the large open green spaces in addition to the lovely old plantation estates housing rich folks and their slaves (slavery is referenced, but only in a rudimentary and idealistic manner), the film becomes gory and raw. It explores the depths to which mankind sinks in war. If you cannot stomach gruesome, bloody fight scenes, suicide and mass murder (among other horrors and imagery), then you should not watch The Patriot.

However, none of the gore is gratuitous; it portrays the reality of men's fighting style during that period--in straight horizontal lines, facing each other, then shooting simultaneously--and the beginnings of ambush methods that the Revolutionaries used on the English.

One will experience great rage and equally deep sorrow with the needless deaths and backstory of Gibson's family's struggles in evading the British as his character becomes the British Army's most-hated Revolutionary insurgent. The movie becomes about how the English utilize morbidly evil acts to draw Gibson and his fighters out to do battle and finish them off.

Again, this wasn't a 'typical' war-type film. It left me with a better sense of history (a subject I'm terrible with!) and was well crafted enough that I became engrossed, experiencing a vast emotional spectrum throughout and coming away better for it.

THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE! Mel Gibson, is just terrific in his acting, and I can watch this movie over and over and always cry with him... Historical teach you something about WAr! nobody wants war, but sometimes you have to do something to protect you and your family when is necessary, courage, bravery, and self respect.

Outstanding display of the true American Patriot. Excellent acting all the way around both Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger performance is excellent. If you missed this movie watch it. It is a must to watch for any true American. The movie shows both sides of the war and if you watch it take notice to the detailing in the clothing and country side. A great film, top of my list. I never seen it until now, we really lost a fine actor with the untimely death of Heath Ledger. This was a true all around well acted movie.

This movie is one the best of Mel Gibsons many great movies. Highly recomended to anyone who likes Mel Gibson.
