This version of "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is in the North American (NTSC) VHS format and was issued in 1990. This is pure Clint! It's a story loosely based on several actual events at the end of the War Between the States in the border state region. Clint's romantic interest in this movie and the child actor who played his son did extraordinarily well. An intersting bit of trivia: In Germany, this movie is titled "Der Texaner", which is completely confusing. It's also rated as restricted to those over 16. My specific interest in this is due to my gggrandmother's brother (Bob Lee) who is mentioned in this movie and was noted in history as the last Confederate hold-out in Texas, which caused the American Civil war to continue until 1866 in Texas.

We purchased it as a gift for a friend that loves Westerns. He was very pleased with the tape.
My husband likes Clint Eastwood and thought this was a very good movie.

"Too bad we don't have time to bury those fellas proper like." Jamie "To hell with those fellas. Buzzards have to eat, same as worms." Josey Wales Those seemingly vituperative words from the mouth of the protagonist become understandable when the following historical context is considered. The Outlaw Josey Wales is set in an era that is very interesting and provokes spirited debate, if not fisticuffs, to this day - particularly among people who call their home Missouri. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: In 1818, the Missouri Territory (part of the vast Louisiana Purchase) applied for statehood. The U.S..

Clint Eastwood Takes Dead Aim With Tobacco Juice

Pros:
Clint Eastwood: The Great American Cowboy? You betcha, pardner!

Cons:
Sandra Locke: Is she live or Memorex? And, really, who cares?

(With apologies to Detective Harry Callahan, Philo Beddoe and that National Geographic photographer ) I m of the firm conviction that Clint Eastwood was born about 100 years too late. If only he d entered this world in, say, 1830, Clint would have made one helluva real-life cowboy the kind of raw-boned, laconic heroes you read about in dime novels; the legends who have Montana state parks named after them; y know, the stuff that rodeo dreams are made of. It s not hard to picture Mr. Eastwood riding herd with the Doolin-Dalton Gang or perhaps walking down the middle of Main Street, tin star...

Vigilantism 101: How Clint Eastwood Saved His Soul
Review created: 09/17/01
by: JediKermit -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Clint Eastwood at the height of his early career--great action, some comedy

Cons:
Very violent, a little nudity, some language

I've only recently discovered the joys of the Western. Maybe it was the not-so-subtle link between the vigilantism of Batman and that of the lone Western Hero--going outside of the law to preserve justice. Batman had his family killed when he was a pup, and never got over it...and has spent the rest of his life seeking that elusive justice. The best Westerns (and I could have just turned that into a hotel joke, but refrained) have the same kind of character--someone so profoundly wronged that they can't "get over it" and need to find justice any way possible. John Wayne in "The Searchers."...

Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms.

Pros:
One of the greatest Westerns ever made. Clint Eastwood.

Cons:
Sandra Locke does her best to spoil it, but fails.

To hell with them fellas. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms. This is the third review in my Festival of the Clint, and surprisingly it s my first review of an Eastwood Western (not to be confused with a Northwood Southern). I say surprisingly because Eastwood is an icon of the genre, sharing the mantel with John Wayne. Unlike John Wayne though, Eastwood is rarely the hero in a white hat. Instead he usually fights the good cause as a darker, more mysterious character. It s one of the things that Clint does best. The Outlaw Josey Wales is a perfect example of Eastwood s work, as both a leading.
