This 1955 movie was the best vehicle for Robert Mitchum! I can't imagine anyone else in the roll of a twisted, psychotic preacher. The movie had me on pins and needles while I was watching it. It is very difficult to watch a man void of feelings and willing to kill two small innocent children for their father's money. Lillian Gish makes a wonderful appearance in this depression-era story. Her kind heart in taking in many children who have been abandoned. Watch Mitchell go from a smooth, slick, sweet talking preacher to satan himself. Best role he ever played!
I loved the actors. The kids were really great. The story line was also great..I have always loved the older movies, Robert Mitchum always makes for a good movie.
Great dark classic with Mitchum playing one of his best roles. Filmed in black and white, this melodrama follows a drifter trying to steal money from an innocent beauty, played ny Shelly Winters. The tatooes on Mitchum's hands should be immortalized, much like a memorable quote.
Fans of Mitchum shouldn't miss this one. Talk about a creepy double feature, see this one right after Cape Fear.
