I love this movie, but in the DVD version there are some scenes that are missing. The entire sequence where they spend there first night in the house and actually break the step is totally left out! Also the scene with the trees falling is cut short. Those were the two I noticed but there may be more. Why do studios do this? It is a total letdown to fans.
I love the early Tom Hanks movies, and this one in particular! As a homeowner, I can relate to the "money pit" feelings, but this movie is hilarious and sweet at the same time. I could watch it over and over!
The Money Pit - A pretty funny movie about a couple's worst nightmare when moving in to a new home. Everything goes wrong. The house literally falls apart around them. Good story and characters, give it a try.
When the world is crumbling in on you, just pop in this DVD and find yourself engulfed in the halarious antics of first time homeowners. Several great lessons are taught in this fun for all film about two fledgling newlyweds who think they have discovered a diamond only to discover it is really a chunk of coal. Love, love , love this film!
Okay, the movie is a little over-the-top at points, but we can all relate to it. In our lives, we've all attempted home improvement projects only to discover that anything that can go wrong usually does and that we probably should've hired a professional. Still, it's these 'you won't believe what happened when we tried to fix something' are entertaining. Through the humor, we can laugh at our own near-futile attempts at the same thing. Set down that paint brush or hammer and check out this flick.
This is one of the most hysterically funny movies I have ever seen. Everyone who loves to laugh continuously through a movie should buy this one, or at least see it. That is the main reason I bought the movie - for the laughs, but I also love Shelly Long and Tom Hanks as both could make a tree laugh.
The subject matter is also funny and quite deceiving at times. The construction of putting these scenes together is amazing. The timing of the stunts are incredible - just great! Where did they find these ideas, and who had such a funny mind - I'd love to meet him which would mean I'd never NOT laugh again.
Shelly Long and Tom Hanks are fantastic, but the events of this movie are so incredibly funny - no one could help but laugh and laugh out loud! Of course the best parts of the movie are the parts when things go wrong and they all seem to go wrong and all at once! Even the characters who play the construction are terrific - especially the guy who takes charge of the medicine cabinet! The end is so touching and very romantic between Shelly and Tom, as well as the last scene between the Seller of the house and her man.
This is truly a MUST SEE MOVIE and would make a fantastic Christmas Gift - the entire family would enjoy. It might even be an educational movie for the upcoming home buyer. Gotta see it!! That's an order!!
Absolutely delightful movie and one of Tom Hanks best efforts. This movie is every home owner’s worst nightmare come true and hilariously so. Loved the entire cast with a special nod to ‘The Cheap Girls”
A great comedy! Tom Hanks plays the part of a new home owner where any thing and everything that can go wrong does and his reaction will have you laughing so hard you'll cry!
Oh my God, I moved into a house just like it about the same time this movie came out. The movie was so funny it helped me get through the growing pains of my(money pit) house. Wonderful acting Tom Hanks is one of the best. I will have all his movies in my collection. If you want to forget you troubles and laugh, laugh, laugh, then add this movie to your collection.
The fact that this movie is several years old, the storyline and comedy of The Money Pit is timeless. There isn't a slow moment in the movie. The storyline seamlessly weaves the ex-love connection between Shelly Long and her once love interest (classical music conductor) and the purchase of "The Money Pit" of a house that she and Tom Hanks get involved with. Shelly and Tom are staying at the apartment of the conductor while he's away on an extended musical performance, but he comes back home without warning and so Shelly and Tom must find a place to stay immeditately. Tom has a less-than-trustworthy real estate agent looking for a property they can lease or buy, and he comes across an unbelievable house for a give-away price. Seems too good to be true, but Shelly and Tom buy the house. Maybe it's because I've lived some of the nightmares of home ownership that parallels what they encounter, but I'm in tears of laughter every time I watch this movie. Wonderful acting by both Tom and Shelly and a great timeless funny movie. A classic!
funny tom hanks and shelly long are a couple who are house hunting.they find the perfact house being sold by a little old lady the house is great, till after the papers are signed and the old lady is gone.everything gose to the dogs, the repair people say two weeks to fix it.then make it even worse.a real funny movie.
This is a great movie. Anyone who has ever rented a home or bought an old home will be able to relate. Everything goes wrong with the house of their dreams. Michael Keaton is great and the Diane lady from Cheers is also in the movie. This is an older movie but well worth the .99 cents to rent so go get it now so you know what to expect with that old house you're thinking of buying ... LoL - gene

No matter how many times I watch this movie, I never fail to laugh out loud like a little kid... there is no lapse in the laughter from one scene to the next... some of the humor is subtle and other parts are just laugh til you cry funny... this is one you'll want in your collection...
My all time favorite movie...guaranteed to laugh. I have a collection of Tom Hanks DVD's...This one is hard to get on DVD, Thanks to E-bay i have the luxury of laughing when ever I want.
An updating of "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse" in which an up-and-coming entertainment lawyer takes the big step with his girlfriend and purchases a fixer-upper for a "steal." As it turns out, the "steal" is really a "rip-off" and everything that can go wrong, does.
This movie is a "Timeless" comedy that will never get old. It's so much fun to watch, especially if you plan on doing some remodeling around your house! I recommend it to all who really need a good laugh!
I have always loved this movie. It's a old movie so I didn't know if I'd be able to find it. I found it on Ebay of course and it was even a DVD, the original wouldn't have been. It was great quality and I really enjoyed seeing it again, so funny. The price was fine, I would have paid that in a store if I could have found it. I would highly recommend this buyer, fast shipping and a good product. Thank you
I love this movie! I have it on VHS so when I saw it on DVD I just had to have it! I think Tom Hanks is the greatest. In this movie, he and Shelley just seem to "fit" with their misadventures of buying a "fixer-upper". I've been there myself. I bought a "dump" (because it's all I could afford at the time) and turned it into a doll house. I really think you'll like this movie.
had forgotten about this movie until we purchased a home. got a real good deal(or at least we thought so at the time). as soon as we saw the head of green snake sticking out of a hole in our exterior wall we changed our minds. we got this movie to remind us that all will work out in the end. the exterminator said that the snake we saw would not hurt us. we told him we knew that, it was his cousins and friends that we did not see that worried us.
It's a complete classic. Tommy and Shelley are perfect together in this. They compliment each other very well. It's not a constant laugh, but believe me, you won't be disappointed!

The funniest movie ever : The Money Pit, with Tom Hanks

Pros: FUNNY, great interacting cast, good story, no boring moments
Cons: sometimes too funny!
The Money Pit came out way back in 1986. This was way before Tom Hanks became the hugely successful actor that he is today. But, this movie helped to show him off on the comedic aspect of things. He stars as one-half of a couple that has decided they need to move into a bigger and better house in order to start up a family. Shelley Long plays his wife in the film. The problem is that there are not many homes that the couple can afford. So, of course they are looking for help wherever they can find it. The help, as can be predicted, comes from a lonely old con artist who wants to sell them a...

Tom Hanks and Shelley Long Face a Remodeling Disaster in The Money Pit

Pros: Funny, entertaining movie with good cast.
Cons: Could be too silly in spots for some.
Owning a home is a dream for many people. That dream can turn into a nightmare if the owners decide to take on remodeling projects that just seem to keep leading to more things that have to be done. The Money Pit, a very funny movie starting Tom Hanks and Shelley Long, illustrates how owing a home can become a huge nightmare. Anna and Walter were living together in her ex-husband's apartment. Max was coming back earlier than expected and Anna and Walter needed to find a new place to live in a hurry. They were told about a home that was listed well below value. After meeting Estelle and seeing.

Pros: Great cast, well written & directed & FUNNY!
Cons: Maybe someone besides Shelley Long
Money Pit I am often amused, but seldom laugh (especially out loud). The first time I watched this movie, I was alone and I laughed until my sides hurt. It probably didn t help that we were going through the painful experience of building a house at the time. (I firmly believe if your marriage can withstand building a house, it can stand anything). It takes very little prelude to get to the butt of all the jokes, renovating a "fixer-upper". Essentially, Tom Hanks is a lawyer for rock-and-roll stars who has been left in debt for which he feels responsible, by an unscrupulous father and Shelley.

Pros: Everything!!
Cons: I felt like I was living it when I bought my house!
I first saw this movie when it was in the theater. At that time I lived in an apartment and thought the movie was wacky and hilarious. Those things could never happen in real life. Then I bought a house several years ago, and 45 days after I moved in, the plumbing went kaput. 15 days after that, the wooden fence around my yard began "mysteriously" missing pieces of wood. 60 days after that, the tiles in my shower started collapsing. At this point, I felt like I was living the "Money Pit" and I realized the film wasn't fiction! Ok, so maybe my catastrophies weren't as bad as Walter (Tom Hanks.

Pros: Writing, acting, timing, pure fun
Cons: None
Everyone needs to quote their favorite line, right? The Money Pit offers too many from which to choose. If I could figure out how to write out the maniacal laughter sparked by the tub falling through the floor, I would. The Money Pit invites us into the home of Tom Hanks (Walter) and Shelley Long (Anna,) as they begin the arduous task of taking on the fixer-upper the didn't know they purchased. When forced out of their former home by the return of Long's ex-husband (played to pretentious perfection by the late Alexander Godunov,) the duo make an incredible deal on an expansive mansion. In awe.
