If you love the theatrical versions you love the extended version. You´ll understand the movies better. Special effects are wonderfull. I love everything about the movies esp. the Extended Edition. If you ever want to buy entertaining movies, these are the ones to get!
When this movie was first released, people tried to compare it to Harry Potter. The only thing similar between the two is that they are fantasy novels. Both are excellent films, but LOTR is much more mature and dark. Excellently acted, written and directed. Spectacular special effects and settings make this film believable. But don’t watch it unless you are ready to invest yourself, the story takes off quickly and similarity in names of people and places become easily confused. Well worth the time spent, and excellent book to film adaptation. The films couldn’t have been better.
The only way to watch all three of The Lord of the Rings are in their extended formats. So if you are a fan of these movies, then go and get it then sit back and enjoy the extra 2+ hours of footage on each movie.
Was this sent by Lord himself, my only complaint was that it was too perfect. This set included so much additional bonus material and was so elaborate I don't see how it was done so quckly, and i mean by years it still seemed fast for all the extras. This is my favorite fantasy work and I don't think we will see a better work in this lifetime. I will watch it again and again and have no reservations about showing to any members of my family. Its a good over all trilogy that has lots of lessons and lots of terrific art and history and personifies JRR tolkien's work in a way I am sure he is proud of .
Outstanding! The extended version reveals so much more of the story. It gives it more character. It is just very long. The extra features go very in depth with the art of movie making that has developed into cinematic magic. No combat scene prior to this movie could even come close and then you find out that most of the extra's didn't even exist except insid of a computer! They were painstakingly reviewing the Tolkien story to ensure that they stayed as close to the books as posible. However, there were many things that Tolkein did no cover that had to be addressed in the movie that was done with great thought and research to make it look authentic with cultures that lasted for centuries, but in reality were fictional to this work. I don't know how anything will ever be as thorough and as complex as this story on the big screen. Watching it is like a great carnival ride that never stops (although the very end it seemed like multiple endings over and over which finally stopped) Reading the book before hand would be like knowing the history and culture of a country you are visiting overseas. It adds to the experience of the event. 12+ hours is a long time for three movies, but they could have added 4 hours more and it would still have been a great adventure!
I recently saw this movie with some friends during my visit to Hawaii. I was so impressed that I had to have it. I found a great deal on Ebay and purchased it. Brand new, great price and prompt shipping. I will enjoy this movie for years to come............Dan
These movies are the best things I have seen on a screen. The extended edition set is just amazing. Feature upon feature is packed on these disks. Great actors, sets and battles. Enjoy! Recommended. A++++++++++++
I enjoyed the animated versions of J.R.R.T's masterpiece, so when Peter Jackson gave us a 21st century effort I knew I had to acquire them as well. I always go for the limited, extended, director's cuts if available....the way the film was meant to be viewed, before greed gives it attention. This is a sacred set of films following the Ring out of the Hobbit's Shire & into the lava within Mt. Doom to be finally destroyed. There's too much wonderful knowledge & imagination here to possibly review in a worthy manner. This should be a required study, in every child's schooling throughout the world. It is that important!
I've been a LOTR fan for 35 yrs & just can't get enough. It was wonderful to see more footage. And I found the hours & hours of behind the scenes film so very interesting. It has given me a whole new appreciation for the work they all did & how it was all accomplished. I also wanted to know why they changed things from the books & I feel it is easier to accept the changes once you understand why they did so.
J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece is beutifully porteayed in Peter Jackson's movie trilogy, and the extended editions are masterpieces. With hours of extra footage, The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition offers deeper insight into the land of Middle-Earth, and the two additional discs that come with each movie delve deeper into the making of the movies than ever before. This pack is an absolute must for Tolkien fans, and by far the best trilogy I've ever seen (sorry, Lucas).
I have been looking for this extended edition version for quite some time and then when I saw that I was able to get all 3 movies I jumped on the chance to own these movies. This movie is a favorite of mine but I did not want to pay the price of a new one when a used one is just a good. The dvd's are in great condition and couldn't ask for better wear.
The series is a masterpiece. The extended versions are fuller and add an additional richness to the material. Once you have seen the extended versions, you will not want to watch the movie versions. Ebay offers a number of listings of LOTR's DVD's at very competitive prices. Five Stars to the LOTR"s and Ebay!!!!!
I NEVER RECEIVED THE ITEM FOR WHICH I PAID, AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE WRITTEN TO THE SELLER MANY TIMES, THE SELLER REFUSES TO GIVE ME THE COURTESY OF A REPLY.
Just when you think you've seen everything there is to see in these movies you find you haven't even scratched the surface. If you have the time, the extended set will explain and show details that were edited out or not easily understood.
Entire epic movie all in one. Great cinematography, awesome acting, and highly enjoyable special features included. A must by for all Tolkien/LOTR fans. Love it.
i decided to get this trilogy because i have nearly worn out the one i already have, and i knew it would only get harder to find it later on. the best movie i have ever seen. and i am no spring chicken! this product came in great condition!
Short of pouring over every single word Tolkien ever wrote about Middle Earth...which I am in the process of doing, by the way...these 12 DVDs give a much greater depth and understanding to what is depicted on the screen in the 3 LOTR movies. Even with the extended editions of the movies, I, as a thorough LOTR fan, always wanted to know even more about the story, characters, location, etc. etc. and this was like the answer to my prayers. In addition to the extended versions of the theatrical releases, the twelve discs in the set are completely loaded with hours of additional information and insights such as cast and director commentaries and production notes. Beyond that, I just really enjoyed the chance to see more of the wonderful costumes and sets, the inspired music, the sheer beauty of the New Zealand landscape used in these movies. There are many scenes added back into the mix that were deleted when the theatrical releases were edited, and other scenes that did make the final cut were enhanced with more info and more clarity. I recommend this set to anyone who cannot seem to get enough of Middle Earth, as well anyone who wants to gain an understanding and appreciation of what really goes into the making of movies such as these.
