While this is now calssed as an older film, this 2006 issue in a DVD format has some re-mastering which improves on the older issues and makes it more viewable. If you pay close attention, you'll be amazed how many stars and future-stars are in this film as leads, seconds, and extras. The true story of the events surrounding the 6 June 1944 invasion of Normandy, France. Fairly massive production and very sweeping in its' tale. Definately belongs in the film library of all historians and militaria collectors.
"The Longest Day" has a star-studded cast, and is produced in a classic "noir" form (black and white) Color would not have improved it. It is a stand-alone classic that deserves to be in any film collector's library. I recently toured many of the invasion beaches and battlegrounds of World War II. Watching the film took me back there.
World War II defined how the world is today. This is a very good example of filmwork done on the subject of WWII. Whether it's a documentary piece or a movie, it gives good details on a subject that should never be forgotten. World War II defined how the world is today.
There are more true actors and stars in this movie than we even have available in today's "Hollywood". The story is tight and focused, and centers around the actual events of one of the greatest conflictrs of all time. This should be required watching for all school students!
This movie seems a little long...but well worth it. If you're into war movies, you gotta have this one. Based on some actual facts, an excellent leading men cast (I don't think they left anyone out), and great war scenes. If you've had someone in your past that was connected to D-Day, you've got to see this movie. If not, you still gotta see it to appreciate what our guys went through on D-Day. 5 Academy Awards nominations...whoooo, speaks for itself.
Acclaimed as one of Hollywood's greatest pictures. Producer Darryl F. Zanuck's re-creation of the Allied landing at Normandy on June 6, 1944 follows the grand-scale drama and personal stories of D-Day. One of the best War movies ever made. This movie is a must see still the best D-Day movie ever made. Filmed in Black & White
All-star cast includes:
John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Rod Steiger, Richard Burton, Red Buttons, Sean Connery, Mel Ferrer, Robert Ryan. 178 min. Widescreen
The Longest Day is the best movie telling about D-Day that has ever been made even after 40 years. This movie is a great historical one about D-Day and should be seen by anyone interested by world war II. When the movie started I was kind of mad because of black and white but that doesn't matter when the movie gets going because it's a great movie. This movie has a lot of action and comedy. Must Buy!!
