The Hole (2006)
I liked it.
That being said, this is a either love it or hate it movie. It's a psychological thriller, maybe, but not really. It's pyschological, but not a thriller, or is it the other way around... I don't know.
I do know this, the movie is intense. The death scenes are pretty brutal and even the most seasoned horror vets might feel a little nauseaos during them.
This is a typical girl meets boy, girl loves boy, boy doesn't notice girls, so girl devises a scheme to get him alone for the weekend... and so on. Yay! Excitement, a weekened sleepover in a dark, dank, pit. The movie takes a turn for the worse when all of the characters get trapped inside the Bomb Shelter and since nobobdy knows they are there....
Even without the brilliant cast (Thora Birch, Keira Knightley, Desmond Harrington) this movie would still be great.
I'll say it again, I enjoyed it. I liked what it had to offer and I really enjoyed the ending.

Rent or Buy?: This one is definately a rental. It's a love it or hate it film, and I'd hate to be the person who talked you into buying this film, only to have you be one of the haters.

dark down thereDidn't know what to expect with this, but it was pretty cool. The plot will twist you around a bit and it's not the kind of movie you can stop watching easily.
It's got several perspectives and subplots, and it will surprise you as you move
through these. Some fantasy some real, you have to figure out which!
Sexy Keira and sometimes sexy Thora add to tension as they have somewhat
surprising personalities an quirks. Definately worth a look if want a gothic
twist to girl fixes unrequited love.

I absolutely loved this movie. The less you know about the movie before watching it the better, so all I will say is this: It shocked the heck out of me!! I did start to understand what was going to happen about 3/4 of the way into it, but before that point I was totally unaware. The end is really awesome and the acting is pretty good. There is some surprising nudity in it...: )
I thought it was one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen!

This movie is a psychological thriller about 4 friends who decide to skip on hteir scheduled weekend field trip and hide out in a abanded bomb shelter. Someone locks them in and then all hell breaks loose. The star power of this movie is mainly Thora Birch and Keira Knightley. If you like this kind of movie give it a try. Just rememeber don't fall in The Hole.

This movie is pretty intense and really messes with your head. The images of death are enough to make you a little queezy from time to time. Overall, the plot of the movie is typical: crazy obsessed girl wants boy and will do anything to get him. However, the movie has some amazing cinematography and real depth if you can get your head into it. After I saw this movie, I couldn't stop thinking about it for day, it creeped me out. Now that I think about it though, it takes a damn good movie to stick with you for that long.

I loved this movie! I thought it was an intense thriller with a crazy twist. I also read the book (which is a bit different than the movie), and watching the movie really gave me a clearer picture about what the story was about. Very exciting psychological thriller!

It's about four teenagers named Liz, Frankie, Geoff, and Mike. Liz had an idea that all four of them should "lock" themselves up in a bomb shelter for three days just getting high and having sex. Liz is in love with Mike. Her whole goal for the bomb shelter trip was for him to love her or at least like her. On the third day Mike didn't like or love Liz. So Liz pretended that she couldn't get the door to the bomb shelter open. In fact, it was she who locked the door and made everyone believed that she accidently slammed the door shut on the first day and it somehow locked from the outside.
So they're in a bomb shelter without running water. Soon they will all be dehydrated. Out of boredom Mike (at least boredom on his part) and Liz have sex. After the sex act, she wakes up intending to unlock the door but she couldn't find Frankie at her "bed." Liz found Frankie dead at the toilet. Her cause of death is she was bulimic, has a hole in her esophagus, blood lost, and heart attack.
Everyone was dehydrated, Geoff most of all. He knew Mike had four or five cans of coke in his bag. So Geoff decided to get one, while Liz is trying to tell Mike that she had the key to the bomb shelter. Upon hearing the can being open, Mike freaks and attacked Geoff. Geoff's cause of death is severe head injury.
Then Liz wanted to cut her wrist because both Frankie and Geoff are dead. Mike trying to comfort/ dissuade her and tells Liz that he loves her. After she thought that Mike is asleep, she climbed the ladder to the entrance of the bomb shelter and unlocked it. Mike wakes up and askes her how she opened the door. She told him the truth, he was so enraged that he viciously climbed up the chain ladder. What they both didn't know was the chain ladder's bolts are beginning to come loose. Mike fell to his death.
She led the authorities to believe that she was the victim. That someone, her best friend, Martin, locked all four of them inside the bomb shelter. Everyone believed her. Martin so enraged, went to the safe house that she was at and chased her all the way to a nearby dam. She pushed him into the running dam, he drowned. She returned to the house where the psychologist found her. The psychologist took her to the bomb shelter, where Liz told the psychologist the truth. However, no one would believe the psychologist because there is no concrete evidence and everyone believed Liz because she was the "damsel in distress." Authories found his body at the dam and concluded that it was suicide from guilt.
Basically, everyone dies because this girl wanted to have this guy. I don't find this movie psychologically thrilling. It's not even scary!

I was surprised after reading another epionioner's review on THE HOLE. I personally found the movie to be original, suspenseful, and most importantly, real. Thora Birch plays Liz, the main character of the movie who is receiving psychological help after having survived in an underground war shelter for 18 days. She and three fellow classmates ditch a school trip and decide to party for the weekend in an old underground war shelter (the hole). I am usually given to long drawn out and reflective reviews of movies, but The Hole starting Thora Birch or American Dreams fame, and Keira Knightley (Bend it Like Beckham, Love Actually), isn t one of them. The movie started out well enough, but it quick devolved into study of the utter mindlessness of the current crop of stereotypical teenagers gone bad movies. It s hard to believe this movie could garner any critical acclaim, but apparently it did. I stumbled upon this movie a few nights ago while I was browsing through my local video store. I saw Birch and Knightley were in it so I gave it a chance. I am so glad I did. This was one of the most twisted movies I have seen in a long time. I loved the different stories and how it all comes together in the end. It's too bad 'The Hole' wasn't advertised better, I think it would have done very well. The thing I liked most was that 'The Hole' wasn't predictable like most horror movies are these days. And the twists and ending just left me in awe.
