The Good Guy is about an ordinary man named Tim Carrier who unknowingly stumbles into a extraordinary life-and-death conflict in which he and his co- protagonist, eccentric writer Linda Paquette, must out step a seemingly unstoppable assassin with ties to high levels of the government.

Its standard Koontz, a fast reading thriller. If you like Koontz you will recieve it well. But in my opinion, its not his best work.

  Classic Koontz!
Review created: 06/20/07(updated 06/20/07)

Tim Carrier is a nice, big, teddy bear of a guy who has settled into a routine bachelor's life of working as a mason, and getting a couple of beers every night after work at a friend's pub. For the most part, he doesn't encourage conversation with the other bar patrons, but if he has "the good luck to encounter an eccentric" he'll play along.

One night, just such an eccentric arrives. He tells Tim he "jumped out of an airplane with his dog." Intrigued, Tim turns to him and responds. After a short conversation, the man, mistaking Tim for a hitman, slides a manila envelope across the bar and tells him, "Half of it's there...The rest when she's gone." Then he turns around and hurries out of the bar. Shocked, Tim waits just a split second too long, and misses the opportunity to inform the man of his mistake. Minutes later, the real hitman shows up, and mistakes Tim for the guy wanting the hit! Unable to simply walk away, Tim slips the intended victim's picture out of the envelope, gives the cash to the killer, and tells him he's changed his mind. With that, Tim's life is forever changed.

Tim finds Linda Paquette, the target of the hit, and together they set off; with a killer on their tail as relentless and inhuman as 'The Terminator.' As the story unfolds, the direness of their situation draws them close to one another, and Linda is able to open up to Tim about the many trials and tribulations she has endured. Tim, a complete stranger, is there for her and she trusts him. Together, along with Tim's friend, Pete Santos (a robbery-homicide detective), they put the puzzle pieces together bit by bit in order to finally discover the big picture. And ultimately, Linda discovers what a "good guy" Tim really is.

The story took off right away, and each chapter is more riveting than the last. The tender, blossoming relationship between Tim and Linda was enjoyable to read, and the evil, cold-blooded killer made my stomach turn on more than one occasion. I ended up staying up until two o'clock in the morning reading this book because I simply could not put it down. Another exciting thriller by one of my all-time favorite authors. It's classic Koontz all the way!

Koontz Fans Get What They Want Here.
Review created: 03/29/08

This is a typical Dean Koontz Book, whereas it keeps you on the edge every step of the way. Sometimes when reading a book from the Koontz collections, you wonder what kind of person can write or imagine some of the things he has written. It is what keeps us coming back though, that way he has of bringing you into a story, putting something before you that may have crossed your mind at one time or another but you quickly discard it because of your own insecurities. This is another outstanding book that I highly recommend to all Koontz fans.

I couldn't review this book because I never got it. But I'm sure if I did get it I would give it at least a good rating or better since I enjoy all Dean Koontz books.

Dean Koontz writes of hope and love in the midst of evil in profoundly inspiring and moving ways. There is mystery and you just don't know which way it will go and how it will end.

It is one of the two latest books out by Dean Koontz. They run about $27 in stores. The only problem we had was that my shipping address changed and even though I changed it on my info the seller sent to the old address. After a month I received it in a round about way. All is good. Happy Holidays!! Redds

  Awesome author does it again.
Review created: 09/09/07

Dean Koontz has done it again; with another spine tingling, nail biting, can't put it down/stay-up-all-night thriller. I absolutly love this author's books and to get it at such a great price on ebay, made it so easy to add to my reading/library collection. Reading is one of my favorite past-times and it can be so relaxing delving into a good book like this one.

I love Dean Koontz books, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book... I'm disappointed in it. It is dragging, and I can't seem to get into it. This has never been a problem before with anything he has written. Just picking up the book seems to be a chore, I'm not enjoying it at all. Sorry

Dean Koontz did it again. Just when I thought that "The Husband" could not be outdone, Koontz proved me wrong. With clear and precise writing, Koontz get his points across while keeping the story interesting. I simply could not put the book down. The twists and turns keep you hooked until the very end.

Dean Koontz Sticks Again With Another Hit Novel
Review created: 08/03/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Dean Koontz has been my favorite author. Since I picked up his first book. Since then I have read every one that he has written. And in The Good Guy he does not let the reader down. It has his usual suspenseful twist and turns. While using real California and other U.S. locations as his back drop setting. The main character is compelling and real. The only thing that I did not like was that it is a little slower to move along than his other novels. But a great read anyways. If you are a Dean Koontz fan this is a must read.

  One of Dean's Best

Dean's latest is one of his best action thrillers in recent years. While reminiscent of Dark River of the Heart, this work is lighter and yet maintains the tension throughout like Dean's best.

  Not Koontz's Best Book
Review created: 07/19/07(updated 07/21/07)

I am a big fan of Dean Koontz. He is a terrific writer, but this is not his best book. The character development and dialogue is very good, the story is fast paced and suspenseful, but the book comes to a rather abrupt end after the denouement. I was left feeling unsatisfied. It would not surprise me to learn that this was a manuscript that Koontz dug out of a closet, updated, and sent to his publisher to meet a publication deadline. I can only give The Good Guy 3 stars.

The plot line is one that Koontz has used successfully many times before. An ordinary guy comes to the aid of an attractive woman who he must protect from unspeakable evil. The two of them become a good team, overcome their adversary, decide they like each other, etc. etc.

The book is sprinkled with fun Koontz prose: “Under a charcoal sky lay a soot-black sea. Like gray smoke, the froth on the low waves drifted ashore, dissipating on an ashen beach.” Unfortunately, the endearing 4 legged (dog) character found in all of Koontz’s books only makes a cameo appearance in this one. Additionally, the villain in this piece failed to creep me out. The bad guy was definitely bad. I certainly didn’t like him, but he did not give me the chills that many of Koontz’s other antagonists have.

Buy this one is only if you already like Koontz. Don’t make it the first Koontz book you read... I recommend Watchers for your maiden voyage.

I have been a fan of koontz seen the begining of his amazing career. This was no doubt his best to date novel. The story of Tim and Linda was a non-stop read. Loved it from the moment I entered the nerve wracking rollercoaster story....Sue C. New York...

Dean Koontz The Good Guy...GREAT READ!!!
Review created: 07/07/07

Koontz does it again with a fast paced, hard to put down book. The story is standard Koontz, an average guy goes above and beyond to keep a woman from being killed by a hired assassin when he is mistaken for the killer for hire. Tim Carrier is an ordinary guy that can't ignore the proposed hit on Linda Paquette an unknown to him woman who is on the hit he has been mistakenly asked to kill. They then try to stay ahead of the real killer, who is relentless and skilled at his trade. This is a hard to put down book that will take you for a thrill ride of a story.

This book really took off from the first few pages. I couldn't put it down and stayed interested throughout. Then you get to thinking.....what if that could REALLY happen......and you know it could and probably does. It carries a good tension through it and doesn't slop things up with an overodose of romance.
