The Devil's Own - My St. Patrick's Day Write-Off Entry

Pros:
good contrast of the two cultures, very nice cinematography
Cons:
weak action, talent here could be put to better use
Don't look for happy endings, Tom. It's not an American story; it's an Irish one.... It's an interesting contrast in this movie - the difference between the Irish-Americans and the new immigrants. The Irish-Americans seem to be desperately wanting to hang onto their Irish heritage, but by the end it is evident that there really is a deep divide between the two. Nowhere is this more evident than during the scene of the family's first dinner with their Irish boarder. Corned beef and cabbage is served because the family believes he eats all the time. In reality, he has never had it before in his.

Pros:
Realistic IRA storyline - you get a good look inside their battles.
Cons:
Worst movie I've ever seen Harrison Ford in! SLOW SLOW SLOW
Being a Harrison Ford fan, I try to catch every movie he has made whether in the theater, or on video/DVD. I had to FORCE myself to finish watching this film. It was horrible in my opinion. What drove Harrison to agree to take this script? Basic Plot: Harrison Ford is an Irish-American Police officer on the verge of retiring and lives happily with his wife and family in a little quaint section of NY. Ford has never fired his gun in his whole career and comes across as a wishy-washy, wimpy guy. (MADE ME SICK!!!) Brad Pitt is an active, murdering member of the IRA, who is sent to live with Ford.

How can Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt make a bad movie together?

Pros:
Both leads have great screen presence.
Cons:
Confused script doesn't know who to root for.
I hate comparing movies that really don't have much in common, but the day before I saw "The Devil's Own", I had just seen "The Saint", and both movies share the same strange unsatisfying feeling. "The Devil's Own" has had some controversy surrounding it before it came out. They started filming the movie before they had a finished script, and it really shows. The film varies greatly in the way it treats the characters, and the viewers. The movie seems to go in different directions quite a bit. In other words, it is as if the script and the star's motivations changed directions during the...

The Devil must have written the script

Pros:
Interesting view of the Irish conflict
Cons:
Pointless scenes
This movie tried to make me cry and get my blood pumping at the same time. It really did. And it should have succeeded- it had all the right ingredients- great actors, death of a parent, tragic confrontation of two men who care about each other but are forced by circumstance to become enemies. Yet somehow the whole production rang hollow. The basic plot involves a member of the IRA (Brad Pitt) who is sent to America to purchase missiles. An IRA sympathizer sends Pitt to live with his friend, a cop (Harrison Ford) who is unaware of Pitt's IRA affiliation. (And who, amazingly, despite being...

Pros:
enjoyable to watch if you don't take it seriously
Cons:
Oops, they forgot to make a quality movie
I am not sure if industry fodder is a commonly used term in this country or not, but I m sure that s who this movie is made for. Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt are very sexy and that s why I went to see this movie. That s also why I stayed for 2 hours that felt more like 8. I can t remember if I stayed til the very end or not. I suspect that I did. And even though it was a very bad movie, it was very memorable. It could be because I saw it with a very funny friend of mine who is Irish. We were in stitches and quote that movie to this day - the line they used in all the adverts. I m not going...
